I have watched a few YT hauls, and I enjoy them mostly, but what I dislike is hauls, where the person does not indicate whether they got the item for free or not. I want to know what items the person actually bought because that is more indicative to me what craft supplies the person really wanted. The "big name stars" such as Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Warner are very good at indicating what was sent to them and what was purchased. Other people are not. I am not "trashing" anybody but just stating I would like transparency. In the end, I've decided to stop watching people who are not transparent about their hauls. Also I think it is suspicious when a person "buys" an exact same die set that they already have from a different company (which they used in previous videos) (ie. Wonky rectangle dies). Vent over now.

I kind of like hauls, so I can see new product. I have found a few new stamp companies that way.
My only issue with haul videos, is the hundreds of dollars of product they "just had to buy", but in a previous video, they complain how broke they are and can't afford to buy anything.

My only vent and I really don't watch haul videos very much because I get to irritated with the constant things happening around these gals.. mainly pets I think.. then we get into a five minute discussion with the dog. Maybe I pick the wrong haul videos. Or I get irritated with the voice or something.
BUT my MAIN vent is like I watched a couple of Tuesday Morning hauls and I see really cute items then I go to our TM and they never have anything that is shown. Now I don't go that often to TM or hit the day whenever they unpack. I can't keep up with all that.. so I guess that is on me.. but still irritates me when I do get over there and it is the same stuff from the last time I visited. I know TM all the locations can carry different stuff and I get that. I just get irritated with myself for giving in and making a long trip to TM.

This probably isn’t the same but I cannot watch unboxing videos because it seems like everyone wants to talk (and I keep my volume muted) with their hands over the box for 5 minutes. Then pull everything out and oh oops I forgot to say this earlier so I’ll say it now and you’re waiting even longer to see the product.
Generally I just don’t do videos.

My experience with unboxing is usually where they don’t prepare for the video so they open all the packages on camera, usually close to the mic so that all you can hear is crackling of plastic.

That is another issue for me. I HATE those glassine bags. They are so loud. Me, too! Good grief, that’s an awful sound. Along with people who do stamping videos without using voiceover. I can’t stand to hear the pounding of the ink pads, the tables that obviously aren’t solid, just all of the annoying noises. Thank goodness for captions. Although, I’ve just started skipping over those videos. It’s a shame, too, because I often really like the project. 🤷🏻♀️

I am not a fan of haul videos. I do watch Vicki P when she shows new product she receives because it’s going to be followed by videos showing her using the product. I couldn’t care less about people buying shit just to buy it.

I try to stay away from haul videos..lol I shop too much as it is.. TBH I also try to avoid watching videos that use a product that I don't already have (or at least an obvious substitute for) because I know I'll end up wanting to buy a bunch of things (which is obvs why a lot of people make videos!) I don't think I've ever watched a haul video, except maybe for some kit unboxings.

I know it’s a close out store, but goodness I think certain stores hit the motherland lol (and I honestly hit up almost a dozen different stores in my work and family travels between four states).

I watch quite a few YouTubers that are full time RVr's. Not only do they put up videos about places they travel or places they stay, but they also do videos about a particular item, whether it be a WiFi booster or a generator, etc....they always disclose whether or not the item was given to them free by the manufacturer or if they purchased it themselves.
They always say they have to disclose that per the rules of YouTube so I'm not sure why crafters are not held to the same rule?

I don't love haul videos - too many of them seem to be about the volume of stuff they got, and not the quality/usefulness. I get frustrated when the light is glaring off the shiny plastic packages, and you can hardly see the product inside.
I do watch warehouse box reveals - I'm always temped to order those, but I like to see at least an example of what comes in them. The problem, of course, is that by the time the videos come out, the boxes are sold out!
The chit-chat with hands and (closed) box drives me bonkers, too.
The ideal unboxing video would be each product shown for 1-2 seconds with the manufacturer and item name clearly visible. And PLEASE, no endlessly-looped, cheesy, canned background music! Get some real music, or at least something different from that fake ukulele/guitar thing that everybody uses.

I’m watching Suzanna Lee’s TM Haul Videos and apparently there is a 1-800 number you can call to inquire whether the item is in stock in a store near you. She always makes sure to read the product locator number. I never tried it but it could be worth a try!

Not a huge fan of haul videos as a lot of them are often very disorganised - can't stand long rambling explanations and handwaving etc. Unpack everything before you start and decide what you're going to say etc.

I only end up watching a haul video if I need to see a product IRL before placing an order (no LSS here) and someone's put the SB line in the title or description. The incessant hand ballet, the blabbing on and on and on and on about stuff I don't give a rat's arse about ("So, I bought this ephemera pack. But I wanted the other one. But they were out of them already. I will maybe buy the other ephemera pack from retailer XYZ next week or so when I place another order for some Christmas goodies. I hope they still have them in stock when I do, lol. But I'm still happy with the ephemera pack I bought anyway. I think it's cute. It's not the one I wanted but the one I wanted was no longer in stock soooo..." #killmealready), the lack of organisation (mixing up lines or doing some embellishments before showing the papers and then some embellishments after), the not-showing of ephemera pieces inside an ephemera pack (this is very likely what I came for!), the let-me-go-grab-some-scissors breaks, etc. Everything drives me cuckoo about haul videos!
Anyhoo, some hauls are definitely not hauls but PR packages being passed off as personal buys. Happens in every influencer-based commerce. Scrapbooking is probably a tiny player in comparison to makeup gurus. It's annoying and you should just keep a mental list of the scrapbookers likely disguising PR parcels as their own scrappy spending. They just aren't to be trusted for honest reviews of products in the future...

I totally agree with you. One of my friends, who used to work at an LSS store, that companies do give "gift cards" to "influencers" to buy products in their stores, and to some "influencers" the products are then "purchased" by them. Therefore, their opinions are "honest". I have no problem with people that get products from companies but just be clear about it.

I watch the TM videos and write the product numbers down then use the 800 number to see if they have the item at three stores I shop. Just did this an hour ago.

I couldn’t care less about people buying shit just to buy it. I’ve only watched a couple of haul videos and they were pretty bad. Background noise, bad camera angls, and the presenters just rambling on and on. The craft rooms were messy and had products piled all over. When you look like you’re headed for Horders you probably don’t need to be making a video about how you bought even more stuff. I do watch the more professionally done review videos, especially when there’s a demo. I always take the reviews with a grain of salt. Online stores that allow comments and reviews are a better source. As are rhe Peas, of course.

I just checked out My Creative Ego haul video. Other than the annoying transition effects, she’s got a perfect setup. She shows the SKU, packaging and SAMPLES! She actually uses the product and shows you the results. She bought crafty stuff and baking stuff. She included video of her using the baking pans and the end result. 👍🏻 youtu.be/dLpZTTL9R78

Call that number and enter the sku number (and #) you usually see on the hauls. Enter your zip code and the machine will search and see if your TM has it in stock. I use that number all of the time.

People that are taking the items out of the bag as they present the merchandise drive me crazy. That crinkly sound over and over. Then they look for the tag for several seconds. Is it that hard to just have things sitting next to you off camera and pull them out one by one?

I'd also like to add that "jazz fingers" at the end of the video that go up and down the product/page several times also give me an irrational reaction. I'd be okay with "tadaah fingers," or even a finger pistol but the up and down with wiggly fingers is goofy. It also bothers me when people do that with creating a page. I stop the video before they finish. I realize it is my cross to bear.
