I just can't believe it. Millie is only 16 months old. She was limping, but she was an active runner and wrestler when her boxer cousins came over. I thought she had just injured herself while playing. Never expecting the X-ray would show a suspicious area in her back leg and biopsy came back as osteosarcoma. I'm struggling with the options. Do nothing except pain control, maybe 2-3 months. Amputate and it could be 6-12 months, but the sarcoma may come back elsewhere. There is chemo, we are not in the position for that. Im just heartbroken. We had our other boxers for 12 and almost 13 years. Today, I took her to McDonald's drive thru for a plain hamburger.❤️

I’m sorry. Unfortunately, cancer is common in Boxers. We lost our last two boxers to cancer, although they were both older than Millie. It’s heartbreaking.

That really, REALLY sucks. I’m so sorry. It really doesn’t take long for them to become a true part of the family. Hugs to you all.

I am so sorry. It's so wrong that dogs get cancer. I mean that any living creature does is wrong. But dogs are pure love and loyalty. The cocker I had from when I was born till I was 10 had a type of cancer that grew on his back bone. We had it removed twice and when it came back the third time the xrays and it was wrapped around his spine. We made sure he was comfy and spoiled those last few months. My parents made the decision when he wouldn't eat that it was time. I'm sorry your family is going through this, listen to your gut on which option to take.
ETA I do knew someone in a similar position with a 4 month old dog. They chose amputation and he is now 3 years old with no recurrence.

I have a good friend whose lab’s leg needed to be amputated. I don’t remember why, but Trudy lived to be 13. She got around like having 3 legs was perfectly normal. My friend would bring her into the schools and to scout troops and talk about disabilities.
So amputation May be an option, although of course you don’t WANT that.

Oh, I’m so sorry. Your pup is so young. That is my worst nightmare. We lost our 10 year old boxer 2 years ago. When we started looking for another dog we decided not to get another boxer, just because they have a high rate of cancer. We have had 2 boxers and they were the most wonderful loving dogs.

Oh so young! I am SO sorry! One of our dogs had a severe leg injury that kept him off of one leg for four months. He did fine. Dogs do very well with 3 legs. I pray you can make the right decision for your pup and you. Hugs!

I am so saddened to hear about your puppy. It is just awful that this happened to her especially so young.
We have had, in our lifetime five boxers - all wonderful, funny, maddening, loveable and all the rest but the last two were diagnosed with different cancers, one was not quite 7 when he passed after months of chemo and the other was nearly 12 when she passed. I like to think old age eventually got her but she had no treatment for her cancer.
We have not had another boxer since then - as much as we loved them all there occurrence of cancer in this breed changed our mind about having another.
Thinking of you with this most difficult decision.

I'm so sorry. What a cute little pup. We had a Cocker spaniel that had cancer--but she was 13 when we had to put her down. I'm sure that decision is a lot easier when the dog is older.

This makes me so sad. It's terrible when they are so young. I had a wonderful Scottie that we decided to put down at 16 months. It was serious food allergies. We tried everything we could and nothing helped him. He was living a miserable life. It was such a tough decision. Hugs for you. Love him up.
