Well 99.9% sure I am. At least I have some time to find something. But crap, no one wants to pay much. $12 bucks an hour for what I do now.. (I am above that!)... I keep praying something at the courthouse will open up but looks like from what I read on one job I applied for that IF I make the cut for testing that is still against 100 other people trying for the same job. So who knows how many applied in the first place.
Another job that looked promising (that didn't post their salary range) and it looked like something right up my alley.. was another $12/hour. I know I am at the top of my pay scale, but going back to $12/hour would be like starting over from the bottom. I guess at least I have time to hopefully find something that pops up.

I'm sorry to hear that. That really stinks! Hopefully the $12/hour is for newbies and they will take your experience into consideration when determining a salary for your next position.

DH has struggled with this; he's in IT. Everyone wants to hire for $7-$9/hr and he has 10+ years of experience and loads of references and positive things. And companies are not interested in a straight hire, they want contractors so there are no benfits provided AND no stability/security in holding a job.
Good luck!

How stressful. I hope something comes along soon, paying a decent wage. $12.00/hour doesn't go very far.

I'm sorry and I feel your pain. I am losing my job as well for the 3rd time in 11 years, and I just recently had climbed my way back to the salary I was making at my old job. It SUCKS!

I'll look at the LinkedIn thing.. I know what it is but never really used it. I'll check. I do have one contact person in the court (he's a judge) and he said I can use him as a reference if needed. So hoping that is helpful!

Oh and I forgot.. It really sucks for you all as well in the same position... I mean I worked long and HARD to get to where I am at as I am sure you guys have to.. and it just seems like a slap in the face to be offered $12/hour when you know you are worth more than that.

So hoping that is helpful! I've had friends laid off from large corporations - the kind that provide classes/counseling in job searching. LinkedIn was an integral part of the counseling they received. I'd suggest that if you don't want to buy that book, you can at least do a lot of Goggling and learn more about using it (although that book seemed to have a lot of hot tips and was written by someone who used to work there.) I know I'd be impressed if one of your first connections was with a judge!

I registered when I was job hunting a year or two ago, and I'm still getting speculative messages from recruiters, it's definitely their tool of choice these days, at least here in the UK at any rate. good luck with your job search

Oh, that sucks. Sounds like your job is in the legal field. If so, have you contacted employment agencies that specialize in legal positions? Positive thoughts that something great w/a great salary comes your way.

I found the same thing when I thought I was going to have to find a new job. Everyone was offering entry pay. I couldn't live on that and pay my house payments.
We had heard rumors that our company was going down and there were many signs pointing in that direction. They stopped ordering Sparkletts water (due to the expense!!!) They were laying people off left and right. They had the owners of the building we were in remodel to reduce the size of our offices and everyone shuffled into smaller spaces.
I began looking at that point in time and everyone was listing jobs in that $12 to $15 range. It was frightening. I guess I was fortunate that I fell down my stairs a few weeks later. Between that fall and my other existing chronic pain condition, my doctor wrote that he didn't want me sitting all day. That put me out of the job I held, which was a sitting job, and the company's long term disability policy picked me up. It pays a percentage of my previous salary, but I had just been dropped to 3 10-hr days a week. So that percentage is based on my lower 3-day pay. I was making around $34 an hour before my fall, so the reduced amount is still enough to cover my bills. I would prefer to be working, but I guess I'm lucky I got injured because shortly after this, I received notice that the company sold out.
I hope you can find something that takes all your years of experience into consideration. Were you in a courthouse? Is there another within a reasonable distance? Or is there some other business that your skills can be tweeted to benefit? I wish you luck in your search.

That's bad The situation is similar for me in the UK - I am currently in a job but it relocated. They are paying travel expenses for the first year but that is due to run out in September. Losing that is a loss of over £3k per year for me and I don't think I can stand it, but alternative jobs in my area are several thousand pounds lower than where I am at the moment. Also, many new hires are temp with possible move to perm and it's a huge risk to leave a perm job for that. It's sucky not to be able to find something somewhere which appropriately values your skills and experience. I hope you can find something that bucks the trend.
