And after you lug it all to the car they will probably want to haggle price hoping you will give in rather than lug it back.
Yes, people are cheap when they are in the buying position. Not so sure about all of them when they are in the selling position though.

Hence the reason why we absolutely will not have a garage sale. I would rather give it away to a good cause than try to sell to strangers who only want things cheaper than cheap.

I won't hold a garage sale either. Not worth my time or energy.

Oh yes the people who love to haggle. We just drop stuff off at goodwill/the dump anymore if family/friends don't want it

Just had one this weekend. Never. Again. I'll use our local "Buy, Sell, Trade" pages on Facebook for the stuff I need to get money out of and donate the rest. I'm just thankful I didn't spend all my profits on newspaper ads to advertise the sale. Major waste of a couple weeks of my life.

I won't do them any more. So sick of it all but what put me over the edge was the woman in an expensive car haggling and badgering me over a 50 cent item. I actually had to escort her to her car to get rid of her. Then the people who don't watch their kids who destroy merchandise. The people who bring dogs who urinate on my stuff. The people who make nasty comments about the merchandise. Endless irritation and for what amounts to about $2/hour of effort setting it up. Not worth it.
I bring them to a thrift store and take a tax deduction.

That stinks. I gave up yard sales a few years ago. My day and sanity is worth more than what I would make.

i made almost 100.00 that went to paying MIL for our house. That is the reason we had the sale was to help raise money to pay her something down on our place. We are trying to stop her from selling the places. I am going to spend the next few week listing stuff on craig's list.
let's see one women tried to change the price tag on one book she put a .10 sticker on a 3.00 book. I base book price on the local used book store prices. they are pretty cheap and fair on pricing. She was in a BMW dressed very well.

If something is 5.00 regular new price I can't imagine anyone selling it for more then a quarter in a yard sale. That's not being cheap. That is a normal yard sale price. I wouldn't pay more then 50 cents for a book in a yard sale. That's not being cheap. That's the going yard sale rate around here.

General yard sale pricing is about 25% of what you paid for said item to be sold; that's what we've discovered over the years, and what we suggest to our online yard sale sites that I monitor.
For the more expensive priced items, such as your item and luxury brands? We either sell on Craigslist, EBay local or consign the items. I stopped getting frustrated with those yahoos who would come to our yard sales with the whole "I'll give you $5 for everything on that table" years ago. They're annoying, but laughable.

Yard sales are supposed to be really cheap. I'm not saying that I do not understand your vent...I do. People can be over-the-top cheap and annoying at sales and you have to have a thick skin, but you can't get consignment/used store prices at a yard sale. You just can't.
Try craigslist or FB online sales. People still want really cheap on those too but there is a little more wiggle room.

Creepy cheaters! I watched a woman with a cartloads of stuff switch stickers at thrift last year- and reported it to manager. She had a cartloads of decor items, probably a dealer. I'd like to have a sale, but not when I read vents. I rarely haggle when I garage sale shop. I know sellers want a little something back for their stuff, and I'm still getting a good deal.

Oh, now see I took it to mean that she had an item marked $5.00 and people were offering her a dollar or less for it, which is a bigger discount than I would ask for if I were haggling. If I wanted to pay less for an item marked $5.00 I would perhaps offer $4 or at the least $3.

I think veteran garage sale hosts know to price their items either right at the going yard sale price for their area or just a tad more, so that they have wiggle room built in. Haggling is a part of sales, so if it turns you off, you're probably right in opting not to have any garage sales in the future. It's not worth it for you to spend a nice day doing something that you will hate, right. But outright theft and tag switching or destruction of your merchandise or property is just crappy behavior on the part of those attending the sale. I'd be pissed off about that as well.

I had a garage sale this spring and while there were a few rude people, I was actually surprised how pleasant most of the shoppers were. I did price my stuff to sell, so that might have helped. I also almost laughed a few times when a single guy walked up looking for guns or tools. It was quite obvious my sale was baby stuff and baby clothes

I got rid of at least 8 large boxes of kids clothes yesterday and I am giving away two garbage bags full of Little PetShop this afternoon because it is not worth the headache of a yardsale.

I had one garage sale and that was enough for me. I'm just not into the, "Oh, you want $.50 for this, but all I have is $.10" I spent all day dealing with that. And the best was the people that came back at the end, wanting me to "give" them the stuff I didn't sell.
Yeah...not happening. I'll give it to Goodwill, along with everything else I ever wanna get rid of. No more garage sales for me.

My very limited experience says a garage sale is not the place to sell an expensive item (like your new bike). People are looking for dirt cheap prices and aren't willing to fork over that type of money then.

I despise yard sales with the passion of the hot burning sun.
I had two awful experiences with them (holding one myself) and vowed it was not worth the effort or aggravation. Never again.

NOT LITTLE PETSHOP!!! I have been looking everywhere for those!!! My daughter LOVES those.. I went to a garage sale page on Thursday and a lady had posted a bunch of LPS.. so agreed to buy them.. back and forth we went, then all of a sudden she vanished... So irritating. So it isn't just regular garage sales.. even FB garage pages are full of flakes.

If it makes you feel any better, we have sales almost every year, and some years we had more than one, and they were all just fine. We enjoy them and have fun with them. I really can't remember any rude people at garage sales. Now on ebay or the Facebook selling boards...oy, I've come across some real gems.

(I am guessing they are collectibles OYE) I've seen that, too. Apparently once the animals stop being produced they become more valuable. Small toys have a tendency to go that route it seems. i think it's because they are more easily lost or broken.
