I am heading to Minnesota tomorrow with my friend and we are going to Hinkley. Her for the gambling me for Pine City Scrapbooking I had heard that there is a big scrapbooking store in St.Cloud that would be worth our while to go. I think it is a 2 hour drive to get there from Hinkley. Is it worth the drive? Also (if you know) what is the name of the store Thank you Tracy

It's called Crafts Direct. I've never been--some day. The Pine City store is really good, though. Be sure to have lots of time there!
Tobias in Hinkley is famous for their cinnamon rolls. Be sure to try them out!
It's under 2 hours from Hinkley to St Cloud. It's back roads, but they aren't too bad.
If you head west out of St Cloud to St Joseph, eat at Bo Diddley's. I went to St Ben's and I remember the best hot subs from there. It's a tiny college town, but we ate there a lot!

Yes, it's crafts direct. Been many many times. It's just not sb supplies though. It's like a huge Michaels or Joanns. But does have quite a few rows of sb supplies. While I like it, I find they don't carry a lot of the trendier stuff. We were just there a few wks ago.

How far is the pine city sb store from Hinkley?? I have never been to the Pine city store. My friend and I are trying to get together for a wkend retreat on our own (posted a thread on here). I bet it would be cheap to stay in Hinkley at the casino? and scrap. ha

I actually went to look at the casino. They don't have suite rooms is the only problem!! It'd be tough to sb in just one room.

I love Crafts Direct. I haven't been to any other scrapbooking stores for awhile, but they do carry quite a bit of new stuff (basic grey, fancy pants, MME, American Crafts, Simple Stories, etc). There are other Bo Didley's locations in St. Cloud, not just in St. Joseph.

Thank you so much for replying I just replied to your post Cindyupnorth. Actually my SIL gets the room for free as she and her husband go there quite a bit. Me, I am not a gambler. I get upset if I lose $5.00…that is money I could spend on scrappy goodies, teehee I have been to Pine City Scrapbooking many times Basket1lady…so worth it Thank you so much for the extra info…I really appreciate it

I haven't been through that way in years now that DH's grandparents are gone. I'm trying to convince DD she wants to be a Bennie. But she's firmly in the forensic science idea and is looking at St Scholastica. We were in Duluth in July and it was 59 degrees at our resort. I told her it gets a lot colder in January!

And they have coffee shops! I would so love a coffee shop in a craft store. Way to go, Crafts Direct!

This is perfect timing for me. Dh and I are going to St Cloud for a wedding in a few weeks and we may have some free time.

Michelle, Like Cindy Up North said ... Hamline University in St. Paul has a great Forensic Science program. Our son is in his 2nd year there just for that program.

Hey, thanks! Hamline didn't come up in my search, but I'll admit it was a quick search, as DD is only a sophomore. DS is looking at St. Thomas, so we will definitely check out Hamline. We live in Virginia, but are military and the kids want to settle in MN. So they are looking at colleges there. My Mama Heart wants them closer to me, but we could move at any time and we have tons of family in MN, with Grandma and Aunties to spoil them.

Here is the info Michelle. What specifically does the one in FS want to do? I know there is something important about the FS certification, vs other schools do not have that. ? I'm not really sure, it's what I've been told. Vs becoming a medical examiner, which of course would be more schooling. www.hamline.edu/cla/criminal-justice-forensic-science/

I have no idea what she wants to do exactly. She says she wants to stand up for those who can't help themselves anymore. She's barely 15, so there is lots of time to change her mind. But she had my brother and my dad take her shooting when we were home this summer. (My brother is a certified instructor.) She has darn good aim and my dad kept bragging about her shooting. I just want her to stay in a nice, sanitary lab. I hear that forensic science is the fastest growing major for women. Shows like CSI, Bones, Castle, etc are so popular. That worries me, as I want her to be marketable and not live in my basement after I spend $200,000 on tuition. But then a year ago, she wanted to be a graphic artist. So who knows! She has another two years before she really needs to narrow it down.

well, I don't know if that is exactly FS? More like a Social worker, or Police officer? But then you also just deal with the really down and outs. My friends DD just grad'd from hamline with the FS degree this summer. I think she was offered a job in Hennepian cty already. Trust me, my dd would not be going to Hamline if it was going to be 200,000. They were really easy to work with, and actually offered her more incentives then St Bens, AND Univ or MN/morris, for the same degrees.

I think that for her, finding out who the bad guys are via science and with the evidence is her way of righting the wrong. We don't have DS's financial aid pkg from St Thomas--they said around Dec 1. But we are hopeful that they will come up with something. DS should do well with the merit side of things, and they seemed interested in him when he spoke with two different admission counselors and the Dean of Engineering (who was really a great resource--that interview really helped DS with an idea of how the dept works and how the engineering dept teaches.) I know when I went to St Ben's, financially it was equal to the U of M, Twin Cities. The U offered next to nothing and I had a scholarship through the theatre dept at St. Ben's. They didn't do merit aid the same way back in the dark ages, but I would imagine it will be similar. I'm just not sure, at it's $30,000 more a year than when I went to college. Yikes!
