gailoh Would it be possible to see a photo of these stray cat condos you built? My mother and stepfather are dealing with stray cats in their garden. They're regulars but definitely pure stray in the don't-even-think-about-petting-me. I would love to pass on some information on what they could try to make.

Well i do not do pictures...I only have a basic flip phone...lol...I am older and I am intimidated by tech stuff...really...I have a tablet that glares at me... The boxes are made of wood like a dog house and with the roof being with tar paper then shingles like our homes....the door is like a dog house smaller and is not centered in the middle like we see most dog houses...it is to the left or right to the front corner instead...helps with the wind...also the roof is a little longer all around for rain/snow to run off...we put straw in for them...we also make a covered feeding station to keep the food from getting wet...like you see at state parks to picnic in only think real small for kitties to feed under, one side is a wall to be a wind break...have that wall toward the wind to keep rain and snow from getting into the bowls...we put out clean metal bowls and they clean easy...don't have the heated ones but that would be nice but we change water by having an extra water bowl to take out and exchange it for the other one...I use to have 27 kitties I am down to 5 now...we have several kitty houses ...only 6 now...some kitties over the years did not get along so we had a few more then that...the feeding station needs to be away from the houses several feet and protected from the wind, if you feed in the morning early afternoon...that is best...night critters come along and you do not want fights... also when possible I got the females fixed some Humane Societies help with that... hope this helps you some...and thank you parents for me...hugs
grrrr forgot to add we also made the roof hinged so we can clean them out...

In cooler climates, from the time you turn the furnace on in the Fall, until you turn it off in the Spring, your pups need an oil added to their food. Their skin gets dry and itchy just like ours. Help them out by adding krill oil or sardine oil to their daily meals. Salmon oil is ok too but make sure it is a good quality one. See??? Some people like to call out Gail for posting/BTTing these threads. There is always something to learn to make our pet's lives better. Thank you for posting that Katie

Thank you for giving suggestions...can we use anything like cooking oil? How much pil do I give a 12 pound pup? I don’t use pills, I add a spoonfu of coconut oil or a liquid pump of sardine oil or sardine oil that I buy on Amazon. For coconut oil, I believe the recommended dosage is 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds, but no more than 3 tablespoons per day. The sardine oil and salmon oil that I get on Amazon has dosage instructions on the back of the bottle. And just use 1, by the way. I like to rotate, and I actually think my dog does not like coconut oil so I have stopped using that.

Here’s my setup - I’m always open for suggestions and improvements.
We have 4 outdoor cats, (well now 5 since a new one showed up last winter. The original 4 are neutered but we can’t get close enough to touch #5 to even know whether it is male or female. I’m not a fan of that one. The others are very friendly. We have a shed with 2 cat doors in it. Inside are 5 enclosed boxes lined with styrofoam and each has a pet bed and heated pad. 2 of them are large enough for multiple cats (3 are brothers and sometimes sleep together) Last year we put WiFi cameras in each box so we can see if they are inside! They generally don’t sleep in the shed until it gets to freezing, even though it has a window and a couple of open sleeping spots that aren’t heated. For some reason they prefer my front doormat!
They are fed on our porch and we have a heated water bowl in the winter.
I also have 2 very spoiled female indoor cats and we do allow outdoor cat #4 inside whenever he wants. He’s pretty laid back gets along with the indoor girls.
