Hi All, Are you ready? Because it's time for CARDtober! I've been tasked with coming up with the first challenge. One of my favorite places is Yosemite National Park. October 1, 1890 was the date that Yosemite was designated a National Park (the third!) by the US Congress. So what better way start CARDtober than to have the theme be based on Yosemite NP. Challenge: Use the colors gray (granite), blue (sky), green (trees, grass) and brown (trails, trees). Bonus: Add mountains, camping, hiking or wildlife (bears, deer, raccoons, squirrels, birds, etc.). Sample cards: Card 1 - I created by applying distress inks in a "valley view" pattern in the challenge color palette. I added embossed trees and sentiment from a very old CTMH stamp set. Card 2 - I created using distress inks and stamped with a star stamp embossed with LF glow-in-the-dark embossing powder. Star stamp, trailer and trees are from Sunny Studio. Attachments:

They are lovely cards  I like both of them, the first feels sort of majestic, tall trees, big open sky. But that dinky caravan steals the show Thanks for starting us off. |

GiantsFan and Linda, you both did cards anyone would love to get. Since this is my first time doing a challenge, it also helps me to get an idea of how varied we can be. Thanks for sharing!

Linda great card. Here is another one I did with just paper piecing with the LF Leafy Tree Backdrop - Portrait. I mucked up the stamping, but I may cut out more leaves to hide it. Actually, looking at it again, the sentiment is OK, but I think it needs a bird on the right side. I've don't have anything that will work though. Oh, and the background is one I made a while ago and had in my stash. Attachments:

Love your simple card, Linda . And the fall card with the leaves is lovely, GiantsFan . Here is my take on the challenge. I applied TH oxide inks (in the 4 colours) to an acetate transparency, then spritzed with water. I applied the wet colour to glossy cs, squishing the transparency around to mix the colours. When it had dried, I buffed with a paper towel. I used a Taylored expressions cutting plate to create a cs stencil for the stars. Used DecoFoil transfer paste with that home made stencil, let it dry, then ran it through my Minc with HS silver foil. Then I "just" had to put my little scene together.  CardTober #1 by Gramma Dee, on Flickr I don't have a lot of patience for nit picky details, and that little squirrel drove me squirrelly, but I like the card, so will probably replicate it at least a few more times. Great job grammadee . You lost me at Deco foil/paste Minc, but I like the results. And the squirrel is adorable. The Minc is the Heidi Swapp laminator that I use for foiling. If you have a laser printer (I don't), you can print any design, put some foil over it in a folder, run it through the Minc machine and get a foiled image. There are several companies who make the foil sheets, most of the foil sheets I have seen have been Heidi Swapp or DecoFoil. The Deco Foil paste will also react with the foil when heat is applied. It comes in a jar and can be used with a stencil to create a reactive design for the foils. I have used it with stencils quite a bit, but sometimes I cut my own stencils using my dies, and they work pretty well, too. I picked up a card in progress from my Christmas box that fit the color scheme and theme and finished it. I make these cards in pairs because of the inlay technique. Two pieces are die cut in white, one is left as it is, the other is ink blended with distress oxides and spritzed a bit with water. Switched out the pieces and used a big piece of Scor Tape on the back to hold it all together. Luckily this die only has 4 tiny pieces, so it's ideal for this technique. I ran the inlay pieces through the die cutter again to create nice stitched borders, then stamped the sentiment with black soot oxide ink. I learned this technique from Jennifer McGuire and I love it - it's pretty easy to do in stages and to mass produce.  Challenge 1: Yosemite colors Christmas card by jo.blackford, on Flickr |

My first card. I just need to figure out how to figure out my points with all the different challenges. I've never ever done anything like this before.  The sky is inked with distress oxide and regular distress ink, then sprinkled with water to make the spots. The mountains were die cut and then I sponged a little green ink on them, then used my versamarker to color the tips and add white embossing powder. The trees were die cut. The mountains and trees were sprinkled with a combo of shimmery water (made with water and perfect pearls) and white paint to make the snow looking dots. The front tree was colored with copics and I used a glue pen on the white parts (because my versamarker is kind of fat on the end due to it being super old) and then embossed with white. Same with the snowy parts on the mailbox. The mailbox and bunny were colored with copics and the sentiment was stamped on with Altenew dye ink. I used a nuvo shimmer brush on the white layer to make it shimmery. The mountains and trees die cuts are from Hero Arts. The snow is actually a wave from Mama Elephant. I used the negative portion because the die has stitches and nothing else had stitches so I didn't want stitches on just the snow. All the stamps are from Hero Arts. The set is called Winter Fun and it was an add-on to a past My Monthly Hero set. |

I LOVE that pair of cards, joblackford ! Great inking. I have always been intrigued by the negative and the positive of diecuts. Who makes that die? I think I need it! That mountain scene is awesome, gale w. Did you ink the sky? Love that Fluffy Hugs stamp, too. |
