No because it's total 100% bullshit. You'd get more out of burning your cash than candling your ears.

No. It is dangerous and unnecessary.

That is in the same category as detox foot pads. Total baloney.

I had to look it up, I have never heard of it! Doesn't sound like something I would want to do.

My neighbor is into all sorts of stuff like oils and herbal remedies. She asked me if I wanted my ears candled. I said I don't think so!! I had envisioned melted wax going into the canal and then hardening and then pulling it out. I am not really into that kind of stuff. Sounds like it was a good thing that I declined!

I thought the heat warmed up any clumped up wax in your ear and helped it to dislodge. I don't know why I think that-- I've never done it.

We have a friend like your neighbor who got dh interested in candling, so he has done it. I actually held the candle thing one time when he first insisted upon trying it. There was crap in the candle stub after he was done, but I assumed it was just wax from the candle itself (as opposed to the toxins from deep within one's own body, lol). I would consider it a waste of time/money at best, potentially dangerous at worst.

My BFF's husband is a doctor. He used candling as a way to clean out their child's extremely waxy ears. But not for any other purpose. It was very effective at cleaning out ear wax.

yes. It removes excess wax from ears. If you have this condition, and don't want to go to a ENT doc and get them washed, it can help. It can be dangerous. Read the instructions carefully and have a bottle of water in reach.
I have done this for my dh and I also make sure I have another person present to assist in case something goes wrong.( I am known to be somewhat clumsy at times). He said it helped his hearing to have all that old, built up ear wax out.

I've done them before. I've seen a lot of stuff come out. Way more than could just be from the candle. I don't think its a cure-all but definitely does help remove wax.

DH and I did the whole ear candling thing at his sister's house one time. We turned it into a joke. Sister-in-law was having dinner for DH's birthday so we told my niece who was young at the time that it was a new birthday tradition...instead of candles on the cake, we put candles in the birthday person's ear. It was ridiculous. Didn't do anything but almost set the place on fire.

Selling ear candles is illegal here in Canada, as far as I know. For good reason- there is no proof that they work at all, and they can burn your ear, ear canal or tympanic membrane. None of which you want. It's rarer now, but we still occasionally get a patient who has burned themselves. People at my work tell me they used to see many more in the late 90s, it was more popular here. Please don't stick a burning candle into your ear If you have a serious wax problem, it's always best to have a doctor remove it.

I had it done last year at a local spa and had good results. Didn't have any sinus issues at all after that for the winter and I'm usually in the Drs a couple times a season for antibiotics. The woman who did it also gave me an awesome cranial massage after.

The burning end of a candle DOES NOT go into the ear. It's not a regular household candle but a specially prepared device with a single purpose.

Pulling wax from the ear can not be classified as "doesn't really do anything". Having the excess wax removed also does not come under the catagory of "dangerous".

It has never been proven to pull anything but the wax in the candle. And yes many people have been harmed by being burned, perforated eardrums etc.

The gunk you see inside of an ear candle is the wax from the candle itself. A burning come of wax right next to your hair? Doesn't seem like the best idea.
I find that I can get ear wax out by using a bulb syringe filled with warm water and gently spraying it in my ear.

My BFF's husband is a Vet. I would go to him for my ears before I would go to your BFF's!
Ear Candling is total bunk.
This is right up there with the chiropractor who can remove the "toxins" from you kids after vaccines. Good golly - I have a friend who is a believer in that one too. Not the one married to the Vet.

Scrappower, why don't you just say you aren't a fan of it? This isn't a life or death issue, just the preferences of various people.

It has helped DH's ear issues when we've done it in the past. Plus DDs enjoy watching it. DH lies on his side on the couch, I put a damp towel around his ear, and hold the lit candle with tongs (with a dish of water right next to me). DDs always like to slice the candle open and see the icky stuff inside.

OMG there are so many people who still believe in snake oil. When I get wax in my ear that I can't get out, I go to my doctor. Next thing I'll be reading about a douche candle to get all the impurities out of the vajayjay. Followed by a happy ending massage at the spa.

Using this therapeutically can deter people from seeking real medical attention for curable problems and it has been proven to cause injuries. Read her link.

I'm really surprised that anyone would think this is even close to a good idea. Even more surprised that a "doctor" would suggest this.
Seriously. No wonder things like fad diets and miracle pills still sell... there's still a market for snake oil.
