I’m thinking of getting a photo printer. Any recommendations?

It's pricey, but I love the Epson PM400. The only downside I've found in the 10 months I've had it. I can only get ink online. So I have to make sure I order before I run low.
I had a Selphy but didn't like the not true 4x6 size and the perforated edges.

I would also highly recommend the Epson PM400. This is my 3rd photo printer, and NONE have compared to this. Amazing!

I wanted the PM but non of the stores I my area had it and I didn’t want to buy it online. Plus ithe printer and refills were a little expensive so I ended up getting the Selphie. I usually send out pictures for developing but when I need to print just a few it works well for that. The pictures look good and it’s easy to use.

I just ordered the selphy (?spelling) 1300 from HSN. Will I regret it? My friend bought one and hates it. I’ve only had my Epson PM400 so I can’t compare in a side by side, but I’m VERY happy with my Epson. I love being able to print true 4x6 plus 5x7 photos too.

I have owned almost every variation of the little HP Compact Photo Printers through the years & all were great. The only problem I had with them, and the reason I had to buy something else is Windows 8-10 doesn’t support them so HP no longer supports them. I still have 2 of them & they work perfectly fine on my ancient laptop that I hang onto just because of them. It is used exclusively for them but when the ink runs out, they will be obsolete (I bought all the ink cartridges I could find!). Sooooo, I did a ton of research, watched every Selphy vs PM 400 comparison video I could find, read everything I could find and finally made the decision to buy my PM 400. I have not regretted it for a moment. It prints beautiful, crisp photos every.single.time. I also love the option of printing 4x6 or 5x7 photos, an option I had on my HP compact printers & used all the time. I also did not like that the Selphy did not print a true 4x6. When I bought my original HP compact printer my choices were between the early version of the PictureMate, the Selphy & the HP. I chose the HP. I have heard where some people have had trouble if they don’t use their PM 400 for long periods of time but I have not had that problem & believe me, mine sits very long stretches of time. But Bless it’s little heart, the moment I turn it on, it just hums right along, printing gorgeous photos as if I had just used it the day before. I’ve had it about a year & a half now. Would most definitely buy it again in a skinny minute! Another plus to this little guy is I always took advantage whenever Office Depot would have BOGO free HP Premium photo paper, so I have a ton of it. It works fine for me so far! I haven’t had any issues yet, but you are on your own if you try it! Sorry I didn’t mean to be so long, but I spent so much time researching mine & I would have appreciated any & all recommendations. I’m a happy PM 400 owner & will buy another one when this one decides to go to the photo printer graveyard where all good little printers go to die.

Someday I’ll get the PM 400 but for now I’ll keep using my Epson Charm. I’m still happy with it and I can still buy the print packs local.

I just ordered the selphy (?spelling) 1300 from HSN. Will I regret it? Here is a comparison I did. This is an older photo but maybe it will help you. The PM400 is closest to the color of my boys. The Selphy coloring is way off. That's one thing I dislike about it. The coloring is never how I like it.

I’m completely bummed. My Epson PM400 has pretty much stopped functioning. It no longer prints wirelessly, I have to plug it in and even then it no longer prints a full picture. It prints less the 1/4 of a 4 x 6, then stops. I have tried every kind of troubleshooting and I can’t seem to get it work.
I have had it since June 2016. I’m a little disappointed it didn’t last a little longer particularly since I do not use it all that frequently. I’m trying to decide if I want to buy another one, or switch to a different printer. When it did work, it made lovely prints.

When it did work, it made lovely prints. Oh wow, that's terrible. I am sorry. Did you try to trouble shoot with Epson? Yes. They were stumped. I installed and uninstalled software, turned computers on and off so many times that I lost count. We tried it from my HP Computer and my iMac both wireless and wired. Plus we tried it with my iPhone X and my less than one year old iPad. The only consistent thing was that it doesn’t work. It is such a super little printer that I will probably break down and purchase another one after I make a few other pricey purchases that I need to make. This still won’t stop me from recommending this printer because I love being able to print both 4 x 6 and 5 x 7 and the color is just outstanding!

Love my Selphy. Taking it w/me to a crop today. Super simple.
I used to get washed out prints, like those above, but I learned to tune it to my photo editing software and taste and now mine are on-color.
Here's a nice comparison.
And some new ones
