My favorite book is Anya by Susan Fromberg Schaeffer. I've read it every year for over forty years!

If I could only pick one it would have to be The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay. ETA: lesley great minds! I knew I liked you! This is the first book that comes to my mind.

The Magic Cottage by James Herbert or The Stand by Stephen King. Can`t choose one over the other.

One of the reasons I started this thread was to get people talking and reminiscing. Hard core reader, one book a year reader or no books since second grade. It doesn't even matter. Books that have special meaning attached, like a loan from a family member or having it read to you as a child. The first book you took out from the library, or the book that got you started being a voracious reader. Or the book that was so good you never wanted to read again because nothing could ever measure up. You guys have made me (and I hope each other) smile quite a few times! I did in fact reminisce when I read your post. I actually asked myself what was my first book and what made me the reader that I am today. (I tend to be a very fluff reader, with some scary S.King thrown in there) and for me all of this started as a young teen reading Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, in the Sweet Valley High series! You have to love the Wakefield good twin, bad twin vibe! They made me want to have twins. Which I did....just the male version Proud moment here..... I don’t understand how in the 21 years we have been together I have never seen my husband read a book. I read 2 a week.... even if it’s rereading them. I read Dr Sleep and loved it and spoke of it, so highly, that my husband read it and has since gone in to read about 3 more over this past year. Reading , for me is a gift. It takes you out of the now and puts you right in the story when it’s done right. I was happy to see my husband get to enjoy that as well!
