So today is the day, Canadianians can now legally purchase pot for recreational use!!! Must admit wonβt change my life...
In Ontario (at least for now) it can only be purchased online (with a 1-3 day delivery period)
My main objection is where it can be smoked/vaped. In my area (and as far as I understand municipalities can have different rules) it can be smoked/vaped wherever cigarettes can be smoked. I think the rules should reflect both alcohol and tobacco. As you canβt have a beer walking down the street I donβt think you should be able to smoke a joint walking down the street....
Curious to know how many βnewbiesβ will actually try it out now thatbit is legal??

I have zero interest in using cannabis.
My condo building made changes in April to prohibit the usage of cannabis on the property, including in public and private units and including up to 6 feet surrounding the building. Zero allowable plants. A cannabis free zone. This building is also completely smoke free. Everyone who wishes to purchase in this building is made aware (has to read and sign policy) prior to acceptance of an offer to purchase.
There are some post-secondary institutions that are also smoke and cannabis free zones. Good! Cannabis stinks!

i didn't realize it was only available by mail until today.... my friend's DH is a postie and not happy. he has concerns about delivering these "packages" on his route and if it will leave him vulnerable to come kind of hold up situation. his route is downtown toronto.
i have indulged in the past but have put that behind me. i have no real concerns about it being legalized. just that everywhere i go is gonna reek of pot but meh... not gonna lose sleep over that.

It's been legal here in MA (though we don't have any stores yet) and really, the only places I've ever "smelled" it walking past were at bars or outdoor shows. However, you ARE basically just supposed to smoke it at home but they don't really enforce that.

The posties threatening a strike is ridiculous. How is it going to be any more dangerous than electronics, or wine, or other valuables being delivered by mail? Pot heads aren't exactly dangerous junkies like you might be dealing with with meth or something, and now that it's legal, there is very little motivation to steal it/risks outweigh the rewards since you can get it legally, like those other expensive items I mentioned.

Canada Post threatening a strike has absolutely nothing to do with cannabis delivery through the mail. It just so happens that the only way you can legally buy pot in Ontario is through on-line sellers, which means Canada Post will make the deliveries. My best guess would be that the on-line suppliers will change their delivery methods to courier companies if Canada Post does strike. From Global news globalnews.ca/news/4442896/canada-post-strike-key-facts/What is this all about?
The heart of the dispute has to do with how postal workers in urban and rural areas are paid. Urban letter carriers are paid by the hour while their rural counterparts are paid based on the size of their route, which clocks in at less than the carriers make being paid hourly. Given that most rural letter carriers are women and most urban letter carriers are men, that difference in pay structure led an arbitrator to review the matter and order the union for the postal workers and Canada Post to come up with a new collective agreement to fix the pay inequity by the end of August 2018. The sides did not meet that deadline.

The world would be a better, happier place if everyone would just kick back and smoke a blunt occasionally.

The first cannabis store in BC is in my town, at the Safeway Mall, lol.
This mornings news, people were lined up outside waiting for the store to open, too funny.

I was talking to my dad(89) about this tonight. Asked him why he and his senior living homies weren't in line buying this morning now that it's legal.

I toked on a few doobies back in the day, so I've no problem with those who want or need to 'light it up' and are happy it's becoming legal to do so.
However, I find it incredibly incongruous that regular ol' Marlboros have been demonized and now e-cigs (which have helped MILLIONS stop smoking) are the new villain.
The smell of pot smoke and the 'bystander high' is no big deal. Yet, second-hand cig smoke or a whiff of my cotton candy vape is an abomination that cannot be allowed to exist.
Color me confused.

I am jealous.
Baby Boomer, former Hippie here....
I am 68 and every year when I go visit my brother in WA I make him take me to the dope shop to buy me my one blunt which I smoke a bit of every night for 5 days while I am there. I wish it were legal in my state but I believe it will take a loooong time for that to happen.

Haha, despite it being legal now I still attempted to hide my rolling last night when a teenager appeared in the room suddenly. I have smoked weed off and on since I was 17. I never hid it from my daughter when she was growing up. I did explain that it was for adults and she had to be an adult if she wanted to try it. I have always believed that people hide things that they are ashamed of and I have never been ashamed of enjoying a blunt any more than drinking the occasional beer, so I refuse to sneak around with weed in my own home. Of course I had a lot of years to get comfortable with it. My daughter is a grown woman who is very successful and happy and does not smoke anything and is my best friend. She drinks occasionally at a concert or wedding but really isn't a regular drinker either. I don't know what I would have done if I had several kids. That may have made a difference. She was an only child and we never hid anything from her and nothing was off limits to discuss.

I used to smoke it back in the 70s, when I was a teenager, but haven't since then. I just don't like how it makes me, personally, feel. I do, however, agree with legalization.
My town (just outside of Calgary) has a designated outdoor weed-smoking area. The thing is, you have to drive there, so people will be going there, getting high, and then DRIVING back.
No stores in my town yet, but the storefront is ready for the first one that'll open, whenever it does.

The issue with e-cigs and vaping is the appeal to teens. The teen cigarette trends were on a wonderful downtrend until juul arrived. Now the trends have reversed and more teens are juuling than smoking. Unfortunately it's not a stop smoking aid for them - we now have a whole new generation addicted to nicotine.

Hopefully this will be a further push for it to be legalized nationally in the USA, although I doubt it. It is way past the time it should be.
It is legal medically in MD. and I've written about that here a bit since I got my medical cannabis card almost 2 months ago. It has been a god send for me medically. I only smoke it at home and would never drive under the influence. Before I tried it recently I hadn't smoked since 1979 when I was in college-back then I quite enjoyed it. I'd quit smoking cigarettes in 1985 so my lungs had healed and were clean. At first I coughed like crazy even though I was vaping the cannabis. I didn't even want to inhale it (that brought on the coughing and hurt my throat) but I was told that was the best way it would be effective and stop the pain.
I got used to it and later bought some pre-rolled as a way to try out the strains. At first they were really rough on my throat but I got used to it by always having a cup of coffee nearby to drink to soothe my throat. I much prefer vaping it. It is certainly true that the cannabis of today is much stronger than what we used to smoke as teens in the 1970's!
Between the tax benefits, medical benefits, not to mention so much more I believe it just makes sense for it to be legalized. Congratulations Canada!
