"Robin Anderson, 20, was sitting in her car at Bayshore Town Center, early for a job interview, when a Glendale police squad car slammed into her driver’s side door. The next thing she knew, an officer smashed her passenger side window, pointing a gun at her. She sat stunned, with her hands up, telling herself: “Don’t move or they’ll shoot you.” The police ordered her to crawl over the broken glass and out of the car, where they handcuffed her, Anderson said in an interview. Police say it was a case of mistaken identity. In a lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Milwaukee, Anderson alleges it was racial profiling. The suit names the City of Glendale, officer William Schieffer and Detective Adam Wall as defendants... Police were looking for four black men suspected in a string of robberies at cell phone stores in the area, and they were allegedly driving a Hyundai Elantra — a different model than Anderson’s car.
Officers also had a specific license plate number, which did not match Anderson’s, and no women were believed to be with the suspects.“The only thing Anderson had in common with the thieves is that she is also African-American,” said attorney Mark Thomsen, who filed the lawsuit. “Had Anderson been white this would not have happened.”" www.jsonline.com/story/news/crime/2018/10/15/bayshore-arrest-woman-accuses-glendale-police-racial-profiling/1602473002/I don't see how they paid only for the smashed window bug didn't pay for the dent damage AND damage to her safety and peace. I hope she wins.

My gynecologist is a black man in a small southern town. Some years ago, he stopped late one night to get a blended ice cream/candy dessert from Sonic. After first driving off, he pulled over in a parking lot to eat it thinking that was safer. An officer driving by found it suspicious and questioned his ownership of the luxury car and what he was doing "in that neighborhood." Had he been a white man sitting in his car eating ice cream, I have no doubt the officer would have smiled and waved as he drove right past.

This is so wrong. WTH? On top of all that, they aren't even going to pay for her dents to be fixed.
Just thinking out loud. What kind of training do police officers receive? I mean are they given any kind of diversity training etc?
Years ago at the beginning of my college career, I took two years at the community college. I took a course (psychology I think) where one student was planning to become a police officer. He outright stated that he believed that black people were inferior. When the teacher challenged him and asked him if he didn't think that would be a problem in his chosen career, he said no. I wonder whatever happened to him and the people he dealt with on the job.

I get physically ill when I hear this stuff. My husband is Mexican and brown and he has experienced that type of treatment from law enforcement more than a few times. No cop has ever done anything good for either of us.
I do realize that not all cops are bad but all cops are responsible for not calling out the sickos. They are a gang, a blue gang and they cover for each other. They will never report the racists among them. I don't know how most of them sleep at night.

I'm glad she is filing a lawsuit. Around the time we moved to CA, a black man was arrested after being reported for running through a neighborhood. The woman who called reported seeing him a few times. Running through the neighborhood. He was handcuffed and taken to the station. No ID on him. Because he was running through his own neighborhood on his evening jog. A high ranking Naval officer. I thought the story was a horrible one off at the time and realize how wrong I was.

I know there are two sides to every story, but I have an awfully hard time seeing how this story can be remotely better from the other side. This sounds just like cops on power trips who enjoy making people suffer.

I worked for years at the post office in a predominantly white affluent town. It was a large enough office that people were there at all hours. The late workers, who were driving while black, were often stopped in town on the way to work. Ridiculous.

My brother is black and as an older teen would be stopped on his way home from partying at night. We live in a nice neighborhood and this happened several times. My mom had to tell him to be calm and do what the officer wanted...this was several years ago but she never had to say that to her white son (both were adopted).

I am firmly convinced from life experience that many people are attracted to law enforcement because in many ways, it is the ultimate power. Power does corrupt.
Sadly, many of that personality type are also the type who, from the beginning, must be able to feel superior to others. Give those kind of people power and weapons, and they behave like petty tyrants.
I am also bone tired of hearing, "But my [husband/father/cousin/sister] is an LEO who puts their life on the line every day!"
Sick of hearing that because if you are black (or brown, etc), you put your life on the line every day just by existing, especially if your path crosses with these tyrants with guns.

One of my daughter's best friends is black. She has a twin brother. They are all 16 and just starting driving themselves places. I've shared all the stories like this that I come across with Quinn. It has been drilled into her head that is she is in the car with Maria or her brother and they get pulled over that she is to get her phone out and start recording. I don't care where they are or what they're doing, she needs to start the video on her phone and speak up. She understands that Maria is not afforded the same assumptions that would be made of Quinn and it sucks every time we have this conversation with her sweet friend in mind, but we have it on repeat because this shit keeps happening!

Ok, here in NC in the past week....one Leo was shot and killed, one stabbed and one attacked badly...all for doing their job, no power trip just enforcing the law. Say that at the furenal this weekend to the widow and her children, say that to the hundreds who watched as their fellow brother was driven to the morgue this weekend, say that to me who watches my husband each day go in and try to make a difference. No power trip, no big head just wanting to make a difference. Where will people like you be when all the decent LEO leave the profession and your left with the bad apples? Damn....such a stupid thing to say....

Time and time again I do say,the good ones do stand against the bad, at least in our department. Hell, that's what the majority of the in-service class is about my husband teaches to his department. I'm pissed at the ignorant, lumped together statements. I'm tired of having to defend my husband for doing his job. How about we rally against the criminals...read up about the POS of that shot Trooper Conner.
Pissed, angry...nope doesn't even cover having to attend another LEO furenal all because of a criminals action.

Yes, the death of a law enforcement officer in the line of duty is terrible and a tragedy. At least they usually get some kind of justice, as their deaths are generally vigorously prosecuted and punished. Of course that doesn’t bring them back but it’s something. Also terrible and tragic - when innocent people, disproportionately of color, die at the hands of irresponsible law enforcement officers. And their families rarely get any kind of justice. Imagine how angry those families must be.

All criminals and that means bad cops too. Some are cold blooded murderers. It’s great that your husbands department doesn’t let bad cops hide behind a wall of blue but a lot of other departments across the country do. But most of the time the bad cops are protected and that’s what we’re mad as hell about. I’m sure you worry about your husband but I also worry about my son. Difference is your husband can change careers. My son can’t change his skin. Edit for spelling.

I also understand how you feel being the wife of law enforcement. Criminals are a blight on society not to mention dangerous, as are criminal cops. Your husband chose his job just as loggers and fishermen choose to do their dangerous jobs. Law enforcement is lower than many jobs on the dangerous list. People choose their jobs but no one can choose what color they are. The color of your skin is NOT a choice. Your job is.
