We have neighbors (that I do not know) who decorate with skeletons every day in October. Each day is something different - today one of the skeletons is an uber driver, yesterday the skeletons were climbing the trees; a few days ago the skeletons were waiting at the bus stop (complete with backpacks for each).
They live at the front of our neighborhood so I get to see them when I'm coming and going and it makes me smile, so I want to say thank you somehow. I grabbed a Halloween card and a Target gift card and figured I'd leave them a note that we would like to contribute to the skeletons props - or they could grab a 6 pack of beer or bottle of wine. But for some reason, leaving a gift card seems weird - although I can't quite say why.
What do you think? Is the gift card ok or would something else be better?

If I were your neighbors I would be thrilled to receive something from you in appreciation of my Halloween decorating efforts. I think a gift card would be an unexpected surprise and perfect. Very thoughtful of you!

Do it! The card I’m sure is appreciation enough, but by giving them the gift card you show you know it isn’t cheap and that you appreciate their effort!

Not weird at all. I think part of being a good neighbor is appreciating what they do verbally or through an action.

If they were my neighbors I would "Boo" them in the form of booze!! Do you know other neighbors that know them and could ask if they enjoy wine or something? You could do a "You've been Boozed" gift bag. I would get one of those huge google eyes and attach it on one side and make letters that read "..... love the skeletons," below the big eye. Get it?
Otherwise, I think your idea of a GC is a great idea. I would deliver it in person tho and make a new friend.

OK, great! My pup is antsy, so she and I will go for a walk and drop off the card and gift card and smile at the cute skeletons again.
Thanks for the confirmation!

Not weird..totally do it. There was a house near me in SC that used to go ALL out for Christmas with the lights and decorations. On Christmas Eve evening, Santa would be out in the yard for meetings and photos with the little ones. He also gave them candy canes. I mailed them $20 a couple times to help out with their electric bill or more candy canes. I just addressed it to "Santa Claus" at their address.

I don't know any of the people on that street - I'm going to see if they are home when I walk over there, and then maybe by next year I will know their drinking preferences

What do you think? Is the gift card ok or would something else be better? I live in a neighborhood and am very patriotic. I have a neighbor caddy corner to me (that I've never met) that spent the money to erect a beautiful flag pole and flies a beautiful well kept flag. When I see it through the fall leaves (can't see it in Spring and Summer) and in afternoon light of snow, it makes me very very happy every time I take my dog out to do her business. I probably enjoy it more than my neighbor does. Anyway--- last year, I drove around the block, got the address off their house, and sent a thank you card in the mail with a photo of their flag in fall. I did sign my name and put a return address on the envelope hoping that would make it less weird. Perhaps send it through the mail and you won't feel like it could be interpreted as "creeper." I'm sure they'd be glad to know you are getting enjoyment of their efforts and expense.

I think it's a great idea to show some appreciation like that! Maybe have a little fun with it and sneak a gift bag onto the skeleton's wrist with a gift card and note thanking him for bringing you smiles?

When my DD was in primary school, we used to pass a house that did this with a large stuffed Shrek toy. Used to do all sorts -and it made us smile.
I think it's a cool idea, and I know when I spoke to shrek's owner, he said he enjoyed the feedback he received from people.
I would totally say something to your neighbors....and drop off a little something. Maybe they will do the same for Christmas

I'll do a walk-by and see if there is a good skeleton to "give" the gift to.

One year the little old lady who lived a few houses away that we never met sent us a thank you card saying that our Christmas lights cheered her up. She could see them from her bedroom. She also included a Book of Mormon and Mormon video. Sooo.... at first I thought thank you for proselytizing but after she died her son came over. He said the house was up for rent, that she had died and gave us her Christmas lights as ours had made her happy.
Send the card!

I like the Boo idea so you could do whatever! It is super nice that you want to show you like it and wanna do something nice. My sister does massive Halloween displays. She got a really cool yard to do so. This year she built a pirate ship.. She did an octopus with pool noodles and suction cups. We were talking a month ago when she was putting part of it together. They have their whole neighbood that does stuff like a christmas street. She's at the end of the street.

Very nice of you to think of a GC for them!

I think anything you decide is fine. One of my neighbors put up giant inflatables for every season. I put a card under their fence to say thank you.
