Looks like there was a single winning MegaMillions ticket sold in South Carolina.
Wasn't me. I told DH that I really like my life right now, and that winning that much money would turn everything in it upside down. I'll stick with the couple million dollar pots. That would give me the financial security to have some extra fun without making my life too hard.
So was it any of you?

I wish these lotteries did not get so big. I would love to see 320 people win $5 million or 160 people win $10 million rather than one person win 1.6 billion. $5 million would be plenty for us to live very comfortably without working for the rest of our lives.

I have always said I didn't need to win the big pots...$5-$10 million would be perfectly fine with me...more money than I would ever need.

I agree, while a huge chunk of money would obviously have it perks (like not working) but I really just would like to have my house paid for. My salary would allow me to pay for taxes and everything in between while allowing me to quit my part time job. I'd settle for winning a million and taking home a few hundred thousand.

Well, I'll be the voice of dissension, I would have loved to win a decent portion of that money! I had plans. Our extended family & close friends were going to be able to live very comfortably for a very long time and not have to worry about things like medical bills & fertility treatments. Ah well.

I guess I'm too lazy to handle winning the lottery. It sounds like too much work to me, and I'm not that interested in financial stuff -- that's a chore to me.

My husband only plays the office pool so that if it wins, he won't be the only one left working. He's the owner of the business and would be screwed if everyone quit. He calls it his insurance policy.

While the money would be nice, it would indeed become a full time job to manage it. Then you throw in all the people and charities who have their hand out wanting it and it can become a nightmare easily. It's fun to daydream about helping out the extended family and donating money, but in reality that much money changes people and how many of them view you. I'm content where I am in life now.

What to do with lottery winnings has been a car trip topic for us since we met in 1993. We live in Texas with family spread out so we take a lot of car trips. So we already knew we'd just give those we decided on one lump sum up front and say "have at it" and then let them manage their own money. Hire someone to manage charitable contributions, a trusted personal assistant to research stuff, handle itineraries and errands. It'd be pretty easy to be lazy I don't work, and I know DH would love to be able to really concentrate on training for a full Ironman (his first half is this weekend) and we love to travel and go to events (theater, sports, music), take cooking classes. Definitely have season tickets to the Spurs again, we did that for several years and really miss it. That's 45-61 games a year, not including the ones we travelled to. He could go see the Steelers play in Pittsburgh instead of waiting until they were within 12 hours of us...the list is long. We do what we can now but funds and time (his) are limited? So I'd be happy to do any combination of these things until our fertility treatment produces a child or five. We're using a surrogate so we could run wild until pretty close to the birth. LOL. Anyway, as you can tell we haven't given it much thought

I'm glad also. I can't even imagine how much stress that would be to manage all of that. I mean I think it would be very difficult to find people you could actually trust.

I'm a dissenter along with dewryce . I've had my imaginary plan in place for awhile of what I would do if I won the huge pot. I've told my friends and family to check my ass if I deviate or become a major dick after winning. I haven't checked my tickets fully yet, but I have 3 with the mega ball and some other numbers. So I probably won $14. lol

I have dreamed of winning... like everyone I've made imaginary plans in my head...
But I tell my husband all the time I dont wanna win the lotto I want someone who loves me to win... lol
Let them deal with the money n people n drama... but certain people would give us a decent amount... not retirement money but a good travel fund... our house is paid for...

Wasn't me either. Saw a funny meme on fb yesterday for the potential winner. Something to the effect of keep it a secret and then call all your relatives and ask them to borrow $500 because you're in a jam and need help. Most will turn you down. Then several weeks later when they learn you're mega-rich, they have a harder time asking you for money! 😏

You pay people to take care of all that for you. You not only need their expertise to properly manage it, but when you have money like that, you don't need to do anything you don't want to do. You're in complete control of how you spend your time. I would do JUST FINE with winning that kind of money

I also don't want to win. I don't want to deal with the stress that comes along with the money. I don't but tickets but DH does (same difference.) I would love for my Mom to win; this way she could give me just enough money to make life a little easier but not enough to bring heartache. (Not that I would wish difficulties on her but I think she would be better at managing the funds or managing the people that manage the funds.)

A coworker of mine lives in Greenville, where the winning ticket was sold, and he's hearing that it was sold at the same place he bought his (though I guess that hasn't publicly been announced yet so may not be accurate). He's kicking himself lol. He says he bought 3 different tickets with 5 lines on each and two of those tickets had all of the winning numbers, but spread across multiple lines. Bummer!

I would want to endure college/secondary learning/futures for all my nieces and nephews and my close friends children. I’d want to invest/fund/develop in social programs for the arts, protect LBGTQ, and other independent small businesses. Other than that, I’d feel good!

1. I thought I remembered there had been a book written profiling the post-winning lives of some winners. I just googled: there are a few books. Novels, also. One of the non-fiction book synopses mentions
2. I’ve also read about a financial guy who specializes in working with lottery winners. Nice gig? Drama?
3. AND, as suggested upthread, I’ve read about a winner who quit his job, sold his house, moved out of town and THEN cashed in his ticket.
Looks like I have a tad too much useless knowledge about lottery winners. Maybe I should devote that brain space to actually buying a ticket.

I think there’s no way that would happen to me (and I’d love a chance to prove it!) but you never know.

think anyone winning that much would need to go into hiding for at least a year. I'm in the camp that wouldn't want to win that much. I'd love to see it split between several people just give me a couple million. I have no desire to go into hiding, no desire to have to now hire someone who specializes in lottery winners, keep it a secret, etc. Pay off my house and our remaining debt sure, but I like my job (for the most part) and my kids are happy where they are with school and I have no desire to change that.
