What fantastic pictures! I especially love the koala ones, especially the one staring down your daughter (I'm assuming?).

What fantastic pictures! I especially love the koala ones, especially the one staring down your daughter (I'm assuming?). she's actually a co-worker. we've been joking all week that she's my pretend daughter a d I think most people have assumed she really is. she's such a sweet girl and were getting along famously although we just met Monday! lol

Great photos Steph, it looks like you're having a ball! Next time you need to come to Melbourne as well as Sydney. I have no idea what of these are That looks similar to native frangipani (except you usually get yellow flowers and white flowers on the same bush). I have two bushes on either side of the steps at my back door. They have just started to flower for the year, and the smell is just divine!

thanks you for the pics - my grandparents lived in Perth and I haven't been in 20+ years. used to spend most of my vacations there. Its lovely to look and see how the city has changed, but the beaches are just as I remember!!!

@stephdrebel, over the years you've grown and changed your life situation for the better. You've worked hard to get here and you are an inspiration for single moms; though I know you're married now. Just thought you should know.

I have no idea what of these are but the jasmine. it smelled so incredible, I just wanted to remember it forever. It looks like you're having such an amazing trip and have some wonderful photos so far! For those that are curious, the first plant is I think now known as a grass tree (for many years they were known as a black boy). They take forever to grow, are insanely expensive, and you have to get a certificate of ownership if you buy them. The second is a banksia. The last one looks like a kangaroo paw.

Watch out for the wombats...they might look cuddly and all, but they can be ornery and have sharp teeth!

Cairns you can do a Great Barrier Reef trip, Hartley’s crocodile farm, Kurunda Railway to Eumundi, Daintree rainforest, Tjapukai Aboriginal cultural centre - so many things in very little time. Sydney in a day is tricky! Going on the harbour is a must. When I was there for a couple of days last year I got to Circular Quay and got on a ferry (like public transport) and did a round trip at sunset. Cost me about $6 as opposed to a very expensive dinner cruise. Bondi would be cool but can be a pain to get to. You could do Manley beach on a ferry so you can take in the harbour in he way. Taronga zoo is awesome and you can get a ferry there I think. It’s a crazy schedule but you should be able to do some awesome things

That's probably the number one place where I'd take overseas visitors, if they came to Melbourne. I was down there for the weekend a few weeks ago, staying at a friend's beach house. Co-incidentally, 2 girls from our US office were arriving in Melbourne that weekend, but on the Sunday. If they had arrived on the Saturday I would have taken them down to Phillip Island for the weekend. As well as the Penguin Parade they have a cool wildlife park where you can feed the kangaroos and other animals (similar to what Steph did).

I love to visit there too - but I wouldn't live there for quids! After all, I'm from Melbourne (there is a quite a bit of rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney). But just look at this harbour, it's stunning! If you're only in Sydney for one day, just keep to the harbour, there's plenty to see and do.

I was a little afraid of him at first but he seemed pretty sleepy. I've been terrorized by birds twice. one is on video, the other I accidently took a pic as I ducked out if the way. I would love to see a magpie, but it would probably peck my eyeballs out at the rate I'm going.

Glad that you are enjoying yourself Downunder - it is such an awesome place but when you live here you tend to take things for granted!
Your photos are fabulous! Hope the trip continues to be as great.

Well, if by some miracle I ever make it down there, I'll peamail you that I'm coming! Would you believe that I've sent quite a few penguins TO Australia?
I used to make a lot of ceramic penguin wedding cake tops, goblets, serving sets, etc. and had several orders go to Australia. I've always loved penguins, my mother said I fell in love with a penguin cartoon when I was 3 and kept bugging her to get me a penguin toy. It made me happy to be making and sending penguins to a country that actually had penguins in the wild!

oh my gosh. we found an amazing boat with 2 seats this morning and we couldn't scuba dive because were flying at 7am but I snorkeled for 4 hours.
I had a shark swim RIGHT by ne, swam with a sea turtle for almost 30 minutes and the photographer caught a red picture of me next to a fish that was bigger than I am (I know right!)
thank goodness i splurged and rented an underwater camera, I am giddy to upload those pictures.
