It’s weird he left notes. I’ve never gotten notes from USPS unless it’s one of their preprinted ones.
My regular USPS guy is awesome. He knows everyone’s names- my kids at college too. We’ve only lived in this house a year.

I apologize for not being more clear. The package was supposedly left on our doorstep Tuesday. The note was left on our door today (Thursday). So if the package was left Tues, neighbor would have been notified via an alert, from the company he bought from, or via email. And aince he didnt have it, he would have questioned yohr local USPS branch and put in a claim for missing package. I really smell something fishy I only get alerts from amazon. I don’t get them when I order a package from anywhere else, nor do I get emails saying the package is delivered.

It makes no sense to purposely leave a package on a neighbor's porch (and since the driver left notes, it must have been on purpose). Maybe it's a new scam so the driver or an accomplice can steal packages, but have plausible deniability? BINGO! Who knows who wrote the note?!

Our mail carrier is a quack. A few weeks ago I had a package that was showing delivered when I tracked it - this was on a Friday. My neighbors all said to wait, it would show up the next day. Nope, nothing on Saturday, nothing on Monday, and nothing on Tuesday. I called our local postmaster who took my tracking information, put me on hold for maybe three minutes, came back on the line and said my carrier had it and it would be delivered later that afternoon. She had been driving around with it in her truck for 5 days!
One of my neighbors doesn't work so she's always home. Many times she has had packages out for delivery and she'll watch the carrier drive up to her mailbox, stick the letters in, and drive off. Her tracking will then be updated to something saying no one was home to sign for package! She doesn't even come to the door to knock.

The truck is tracked by GPS so they can see where the truck stopped. But just because it stopped there doesn’t mean he got out and delivered a package. OP, I suggest calling USPS and reporting what happened as well, in case he files a complaint against you (if that’s possible). Better safe than sorry. It's not just the truck being tracked. Mail carriers now have scanners and are supposed to scan packages when they are left at your home. This is how they are able to pinpoint exactly where a package was left. If you are signed up for USPS mail notifications you will get a notification in your email, which for mine are almost instantaneous. A couple of months ago my wonderful mail carrier was on leave, which is when I can bet on having issues. A package never showed up but said it was delivered. The next day he was back and I asked about it. He called his supervisor, who was able to review the subs scanner records and tell him exactly where my package was. Per usual, it was at the same house number but one street over. So if a carrier is scanning delivered packages like they are supposed to, they will be able to tell you exactly where the package was delivered. This! We have a barcode attached to our mailbox and if I'm in the living room when the mail is delivered, I can hear the beep as the mail carrier scans it. Interestingly, one mail carrier told us that some people object to the bar code and don't like the (tiny, quick) noise from the scan, so they have to remove them from those mailboxes. Amazing what people will object to!

This thread has made me more grateful for my Ring doorbell. It records everyone who comes to the front door, so I'd be able to see what the mail carrier dropped on Tuesday and whether anyone took something from the porch. Any chance a neighbor has a camera that catches your porch?

You can sign up at USPS.com for Informed Delivery to receive alerts on all packages for your address coming through their system. There is also the option to receive a daily email with a photo scan of all your mail scheduled to arrive that day. DH thinks that is creepy but I like it. That email allows you to report any mail that wasn't delivered. Week before last a sub carrier decided to just not deliver my mail, so I simply clicked on that message and reported it all as not being delivered. It showed up the next day.

I’ve gotten them from all kinds of online places that I’ve ordered from. Usually they send an email with a clickable link to track the package. And years ago when I was actively shipping a lot of packages from my business using Priority Mail, I would email every one of my customers a tracking notice so they would know when to expect their orders. It’s definitely nothing new. Now with Amazon having a hub here and doing a lot of their own deliveries, not only do I get a text message (usually with a photo of where the package was left) saying the item was delivered, but I’ll get an alert telling me the driver is 5-6-7 stops away and will be at my house shortly before they even get here. I’ll also second what JustCallMeMommy said about the Ring doorbell. We don’t have a Ring but we have Arlo motion sensing security cameras positioned to capture video of our driveway, front door and back patio door. Any time someone comes up the driveway or up to the house I know about it.

I got an email this morning that had no 'photos' or info so I went the the USPS site, and they showed the package delivered yesterday, which it was, what if they left it in a strange place with out notification? BTW the carrier did knock on my door, so I got the package instantly. Thank you to my present carrier!!

A couple of months ago someone on Nextdoor took a picture of a truckload of mail for my neighborhood that had been dumped out in the desert. The addresses could be seen in the picture. We have the worst post office on the planet and have had for the last forty years. The carriers are the laziest most incompetent workers that I have ever encountered. Our one good carrier lasted for about four years before he retired. I almost cried when he left.
If I have a package coming I stay home and wait for it. I then meet the carrier at the door and if he/she doesn't have my package I make them go find it right then and there. If I don't it will never show up.
Again, if they would just pull the damned phone out of their ear it would cut mistakes at least in half.

I'm going with your neighbor is running a scam and had the pkg sent to your house. He then collects the pkg bought with someone else's $. The mailman knows his scam and kept the pkg for himself and the original scammer is out his pkg.
That's all the imagination I have for today

My sister has a 2nd residence in Florida. A month after she bought it she was there and shipping multiple things that were not being delivered. The post office was located on a dirt road not the street that it’s address is listed online.
She kept watching for the carrier. Meanwhile tracking kept saying out for delivery. Went to the post office and ask about them. Was told to watch for the carrier. This goes on for 3 weeks when she finally catches him and asks. His reply was I didn’t think anyone was living there. So he just kept them. Didn’t send them back. He also didn’t have them in his truck. He brought them the next day.

I'm beginning to think our neighbor wrote the note, not the mailman. The note had to be left between 4:45-7:15pm, while we were gone, and the mail had already been delivered by then.
For now I'm not doing anything. If neighbor approaches me again about this package, or knocks on our door at 10pm, I'll call the postmaster and report the situation.

I have a large locked mailbox, so I don’t worry about getting my mail immediately like I used to do. I also have chronic pain issues and on a bad day, I feel safe leaving the mail in the box now. It would be nice to check it to see if a specific piece of mail is in the box if I haven’t checked it for a few days. Than you for sharing this feature. Isn’t technology amazing? Oh, and I would be suspicious about this. Especially since the neighbor got upset with you. I’d go ahead and call or email the postmaster just to let them know what is going on.

The website shows when it’s out for delivery or has been delivered, it’s basically the same thing only I have to click the link to check. Once I have my stuff, I delete the email. I tried to set up the informed delivery but for some reason I couldn’t do it online. The website said I had to go in to set it up and when I did that the kid working there didn't know how to do it.
