I intercepted my husband's meatloaf-making plan when I discovered he was going to put fresh pineapple in it. Not as part of the topping, which I can sorta see. I asked him if he had ever had this before, and his answer was not reassuring. He doesn't really use recipes. Also not reassuring. He also likes super spicy things. Again with the reassurance issue.
He called me picky. This is true. I asked him to make half of it the normal way and put pineapple in the other half, just in case. Let's just say there is a history of some super weird food experimentation. Let's also just say that for me, the definition of "super weird" may be a little stringent. I like experimentation to at least be loosely based on some sort of recipe. This is not something he deals with.
My main issue is that I don't want to deal with chunks of pineapple inside the meatloaf. I don't much like chunks of anything where I don't expect to find them. This transcends food, obviously.
I offered to make the meatloaf myself. I make a great meatloaf. Want to know why? Because it's the Ina Garten mini meatloaves. You know--I use a tried-and-true recipe. Why mess with perfection? My offer was rejected with a flourish of having taken offense to the very notion of it.
So, I am going to have to eat this meatloaf. He will sneak pineapple in it. Is this a thing? Am I just being too picky? I do think pineapple is good with ham. But this is not a ham loaf (thank you, Jesus). This is a meatloaf. Just ground beef for the meat.
Give me something to hang onto. Drinking is out of the question, not an option. Ubereats on the QT, however, is totally on deck. Or grilled cheese, but it would also have to be done quietly. So quietly. My marriage is a complex organism.

I’m the first to admit I like some pretty odd food combos but I would run screaming from this pairing. Like out the door down the street in my pajamas run.

There are some things you don't mess with.
Don't put weird shit in mac and cheese, stop putting raisins in literally everything, and don't put fruit in meatloaf.
I hope the sides are good.

Your man is trying to cook you dinner. Go with it. I agree that it sounds wrong on several levels. To be fair, I have tried some recipes that were awful. I would just make sure that take out is available if it is disgusting.

My hubby says I eat weird combinations but meatloaf with pineapple, uh...No ! Although, they do make pineapple burgers..maybe that's where he got the ground beef, pineapple idea from.

I would think pineapple cooked INside the meat would make it more..runny/or moist, when you maybe don't want it to be. because of the juices. Esp if it's fresh. Can he make 2 small loaves? one with and one without?

Actually, Kuma's Corner, a big burger joint around here, puts pineapple on one of their burgers and it's pretty good: Roasted Red Pepper, Prosciutto, Grilled Pineapple, Sweet Chili Paste, Sriracha Hot Sauce on a burger.
So... maybe he's inspired by them. Haha

Sweet and sour sauce! It fixes everything!!! It hides the taste of meatloaf trust me and I really hate meatloaf. My mom made the best sauce and now I make it. Love it!!!

That doesn't sound good to me.
Does he make a big deal if you don't eat it? I might take a few bites, eat the sides, then in an hour suddenly get snacky and find something else to eat.

Can he make 2 small loaves? one with and one without? Dear God. Runny and moist. There's no maybe about it. Me don't want it to be. This is not delicious. I'm not going down there. He just opened the door and yelled up "OK, the pineapple is on the right." Now he is watching 1960s Star Trek. I wonder if he is punking me. We have been married a really really long time and there's never been a time I would have been like 'Oh, pineapple IN the MEATLOAF. Sure." I can be a little naive sometimes. Maybe this is a joke and he is going to put me on the family WhatsApp again.

Oh, a big deal will be made if I do not eat it. And if I pretend to eat it, HE ALWAYS KNOWS. Then there is pouting and "I just want to take care of you," with lamentation.

I should say I don’t make meatloaf, just the sauce... It sounds like you keep the two separate, as should we all. Unless there are desperate times, apparently.

I’m the first to admit I like some pretty odd food combos but I would run screaming from this pairing. Like out the door down the street in my pajamas run. We're probably on the same tree on Ancestry somewhere. Your man is trying to cook you dinner. Go with it. I agree that it sounds wrong on several levels. To be fair, I have tried some recipes that were awful. I would just make sure that take out is available if it is disgusting. You make a good point. It's a point I don't really want to hear, but it's a good one. Well, I do want to hear the part about takeout. I am doubtful the miraculous properties of ketchup will save me this time. Thanks for the good luck wishes. My hubby says I eat weird combinations but meatloaf with pineapple, uh...No ! Although, they do make pineapple burgers..maybe that's where he got the ground beef, pineapple idea from. See, I don't really eat ANY weird combinations. I won't even put peanut butter with jelly. I am....squeamish. On a good day. I'm just going to stay up here until the coast is clear or until I hear him go to the bathroom so I can investigate what "the right side" means.

Jeepers, is he Australian? We like to put pineapple on pizzas and in burgers (yum), so I can see someone here doing that. Personally I couldn't think of anything worse than eating something made from ground beef and fruit.

First thing I thought of was Aidells teriyaki pineapple meatballs which are delicious. Not sure how this would translate into a meat loaf though.

No, just, no.
It won’t work, ground beef hasn’t a strong enough flavor.
Now he can put barbecue sauce on the outside and put whole rings of pineapple on the outside and bake that.

When DH and I were dating he made me the nastiest meal I've ever eaten in my life. 12 years later he still doesn't know how much I was grossed out by it. I thought it was the sweetest thing that he wanted to cook for me. I figured one terrible meal wasn't going to kill me (even though it tasted like he was trying to).
I never let him cook me anything again. Ever.

But I still say HELL no to the pineapple meatloaf. Different seasonings.

I seriously want pic's of it when it's done! LOL
It works on pizza, because it's not IN anything. It's laying on top, and usually with canadian bacon. With the burgers, I'm betting they are using a beef/sausage/Pork mix for it. THAT would work. Maybe he put some sausage in it too?

Well a quick google search tells me that there are various recipes for pineapple meatloaf with pineapple both in it and/or on it. But that doesn’t make it right 😉 I think we will all look forward to hearing how this turns out....

Let's just consider that chicken spaghetti situation that I finally googled.
