Hi everyone! Welcome to our 2 peas One Little Word thread for 2019. There was talk over on the Ali Edwards thread about starting our own OLW thread to share progress, encouragement, and prompts throughout the year whether you're taking Ali's class, participating in another similar project, or doing it on your own. I plan on sharing an update here each month to keep this thread active, but I hope there will be a lot of us playing along! In case you're not familiar with the OLW concept, the goal is to choose a guiding word for the year (similar to a New Year's resolution) and then set various goals surrounding that word. Many people create an album to go along with their word/progress, but you can also create a journal, TN, photo book, anything you want or even just think about your word & share here.
Whatever your plans... choose a word and join our thread! To start, introduce yourself & answer these questions:
What is your word for 2019? Why did you choose that word? Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? How are you planning to document your word? Is this your first time participating in OLW? If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? ETA:
1. Each month I plan to list out a couple of prompts. These will be prompts I come up with or are based on what I'm doing (I'm following along in the OLW journal). I am not taking Ali's OLW class this year, but I have taken it in the past. I am not trying to step on the toes of her class or share any info I received from purchasing the class, but I feel like general prompt ideas (without sharing images/downloads) should be fine, especially because I'm just coming up with them versus looking back at old classes. That said, they might resemble her prompts just because I've taken the class in the past (and some of them are kinda obvious). 2. Feel free to copy and paste the prompts into your own post & provide your responses or pick & choose the prompts you want to use or use your own format to respond to the prompts or completely ignore my prompts and post whatever you are doing to focus on your OLW this month. The goal is to check in monthly, in whatever way you want, regardless of the prompts/class/format you are using. 3. Feel free to update your post throughout the month as you complete/add to specific prompts. Or feel free to add additional posts as you work on the prompts. There is no wrong way! 4. Feel free to respond to older prompts/post older prompts as the year goes on. Or you can skip them and just do the current month. I will update the OP with page # info where you can find each month's prompts in case you fall behind and want to catch up. 5. We'd love to see photos of your projects or response to any of the prompts, but also feel free to just share words here. 6. If you want to be tagged each month with the new prompts and I'm not already tagging you, send me a PM and I'll add you to the list.
WHERE TO FIND PROMPTS ON THIS THREAD: January - page 2 February - page 3 March - page 4

I'm Linda from New York (state, not city).
What is your word for 2019? breathe Why did you choose that word? because I really need to SLOW DOWN in 2019 Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? This year I'm just going it alone (with the 2 peas!), but I have done Ali's class in the past. How are you planning to document your word? I'm planning on using the OLW journal Ali created this year. Depending on how I feel I might make something else as well. I've always done a 6x8 album in the past. Is this your first time participating in OLW? Nope. It's my 5th. If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? Past words were 2015-brave, 2016-present, 2017-choose, 2018-grow. I have had ups and downs with the project, but overall I've completed an album every year and found it to be helpful. So far I think brave was my best word and choose was the word I connected with least.
Bring on 2019!

Hi, my name is quietgirl (Michelle), and I've participated in olw for some time. I am not doing Ali's class, but working on the project on my own in a journal, and I'm happy to be here. I live in the United States, I'm a mom to twin 19 year old boys in college and a 14 year old girl who is a freshman in high school.
1. My word is GROW 2. I need to give myself permission, freedom, to get on with my life. To move past a serious illness I'll never recover from, and to not be afraid to follow my many, varied interests. For me, GROW fits this the best. 3. No 4. In a journal, it's already started. 5. No 6. 2014- open (very successful) 2015- worthy (bombed, terrible word) 2016- strength (eh) 2017- joy (very successful) 2018- accept (worse then the worthy debacle)
Thank you, lasteve, for starting this thread.

I picked mindful, as in being more mindful with my time, my resources, my health.
I've done OLW for a number of years and past words have been, build, up, embrace, restore, rise.
I've done the class and really it's not a project for me. I do much better on my own with a reminder of my word, like a piece of jewelry or a card in my PL album.
It's funny because I pick a word and sometimes second guess myself when I read other people's words...like theirs are all thought out so much more completely.
*edited* I've decided to change my word. Mindful wasn't sitting quite right these past few days. I felt it was too passive and that's not part of me. I've changed to INTENTION...still fits with my main focus but with a bit more action involved, which is what I had really wanted.

I'm Belinda from Perth, Western Australia. I have a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son and in between the full-time load of caring for them, I am also studying to become a teacher. My fiance started a new job this year in what's called a FIFO arrangement - he travels to the north-west of Australia to work for two weeks, then comes home for a week. We're getting married on May the 4th 2019
What is your word for 2019? I've narrowed it down to either CALM or JOY.
Why did you choose that word? 2018 has been a really, really tough year. I've struggled to cope with all the demands of my life, I've been battling through bouts of depression and anxiety, I've been so stressed and so angry and unhappy, and I've really completely lost sight of who I am. I've been (and I guess still kind of am) one of the worst versions of myself. I've thought about the things that have been missing from my life over the last year and came up with a list of words. In the end, these two words just seemed to be the most critical - these are the words, the ideas, the concepts that I think will really help to turn things around in 2019 if I can bring more of them into my life. I feel like they may actually go hand in hand - if I actively bring more joy into my life it may help me to be calmer, and if I focus on. living more calmly it may help me to see the joy. I just need to settle on one of the two.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? Participating in Ali's class.
How are you planning to document your word? In a travellers notebook. I'm hoping the smaller format will make it easier and less intimidating for me to remain on track and participating throughout the whole year.
Is this your first time participating in OLW? It's my third attempt. The first year (maybe 2013?) I didn't make it past January. The second time (a couple of years ago) I think I made it to April.
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? BE and SALUBRIOUS. I love the idea of the project, but time commitments have been a problem. Hopefully by using a smaller and simpler format this year I'll be able to remain on track.

What is your word for 2019? Create
Why did you choose that word? My favorite part of OLW this year was getting in my craft room and creating so I wanted to keep that going.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? Ali's class for now.
How are you planning to document your word? I'm not sure yet. I didn't buy any OLW products because I want to use my stash and CREATE my own way. I may explore a smaller format like 3x8 or TN.
Is this your first time participating in OLW? This will be my second year.
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? 2018 my word was Embrace. I was going through a big life change and it really helped me a lot. I completed the album as well and I love how it turned out.

I am Judy live in Minnesota.
What is your word for 2019?
Self-care
Why did you choose that word?
I have been so busy giving and caring for others that it has caused me to neglect myself. Time for me to make myself important in mind, body and spirit.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW?
No, excited to follow this one here.
How are you planning to document your word?
Going to use a journal
Is this your first time participating in OLW?
no
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? My previous word was faith. About 2 months into the class life got crazy and I never restarted the class.

What is your word for 2019? Self-care (me too!) Why did you choose that word? I have some personal challenges to face in the coming year, and taking care of myself mentally and physically is more important than ever. Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? No How are you planning to document your word? I am starting a journal (Archer & Olive, mixed media), and this will be just part of it. Is this your first time participating in OLW? Yes. I was suddenly inspired to choose a word or phrase to focus on the other day, and was excited to see this thread appear out of nowhere!

What is your word for 2019? Discover Why did you choose that word? I chose this word because I am at a point in my life where I am an Empty Nester at the age of 39. For the last 20 years, I have been a SAHM and I want to discover who I am besides a Mom. Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW?Not suer yet. I *really* did not get much out of Ali's class last year, but I am a hopeful at heart and I *hope* this year will be better. Still deciding that though. How are you planning to document your word? In a 6x8 album Is this your first time participating in OLW?No, I have chosen a word for the last few years (since 2011, I think?) - downsize, anchor, shine, progress, reach, hope, and two others I cannot recall. If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? Honestly, some years I have done great (downsize, anchor, shine) and other years I failed miserably. I do enjoy have a 'word' in the back of my head daily, though.

What is your word for 2019? Do Why did you choose that word? I chose progress for 2018 and felt like I haven't really made the progress I wanted. I'm hoping a more clear cut word will actually spark me to action. I feel like progress allows me to research, review, or reflect on things but not necessarily do anything about it and still call it progress. Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? Nope, and I never have. I'm looking forward to following along with the threads here. How are you planning to document your word? I don't usually. The last couple of years I've created a sort of "to do" list which I check back in with periodically. I'm a list maker by nature so this works for me. I think with "do" as my word this format will be particularly effective. Is this your first time participating in OLW? I've chosen a word on and off since at least 2009. If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? The only words I really remember (ie the ones that have been successful for me) are change, simplify, progress. Change and simplify were both really great choices. Change stands out as it was the first time I'd chosen a word and my life underwent many more changes than I had expected, both good and bad. Simplify was also great timing as my DH and I moved in together that year, each bringing a full house of stuff. Progress was not a great word for me as noted above.

I’m still deciding on my word, but wanted to thank lasteve1 for starting this thread! What is your word for 2019? Narrowed to Do (Just do it!), Strong, or Dauntless Why did you choose that word? Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? No, although I participated in the past and may review previous class prompts. How are you planning to document your word? Undecided, but possibly a TN or 6x8 album Is this your first time participating in OLW? No If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? The project has been hit or miss as far as documenting and/or success with my word. Past words: Focus, Complete, Balance, Intentional, Enough, Lighten (most successful!), (don’t remember 2017 - maybe Action?), Brave.

Yay! I'm excited to see this thread here What is your word for 2019? the word that came to me the other day was thrift. I think this year might be a more focused project rather than trying to apply the word to my whole life. Why did you choose that word? It speaks to not wasting what I already have, being mindful of how I use my resources, and also where I want to shop this year (because there's just too much new clothing in the world and I can find most of what I need in thrift shops). I read a book recently called Mending Matters which inspired me to do more visible (and invisible) mending and another book about natural fabric dyes. Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? I plan to do a journaling thing in January but not specifically for OLW. How are you planning to document your word? Computer based journaling, maybe something craftier in a notebook. It might be more about keeping notes about thrifty projects. Is this your first time participating in OLW? I've done AE's class once, then picked a word and gone it alone for a few years. If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? I did light the first year with AE, then yes, then deep. I think I missed one year. Yes was my word the year I faced a major health challenge and I feel like it helped me accept what was going on, even though I'd intended it to be more about saying yes to things I was afraid to do. It worked both ways. I didn't do anything with deep last year except remember it at times during workouts (dig deep!) but I plan to reflect on past words as well as this year's. The year I followed along with AE I'm not sure I got much more "value" out of my word than the years I didn't do anything specific. It's funny because I pick a word and sometimes second guess myself when I read other people's words...like theirs are all thought out so much more completely. I feel this too. I'm not sure if people are better at "spinning" their words or if it's the thing where you compare your first draft to someone else's finished masterpiece.

What is your word for 2019? Habit [Yes, I just found out today it’s Ali’s word too].
Why did you choose that word? I was wavering between self-care and habit, but felt strongly that habit fit best for my life right now. As a very “A Type,” personality, I always seek to improve myself daily. This year, I realized there are a few things I would like to form better habits, including self-care, to decrease an overwhelming daily routine. I actually extended my subscription to get the “Habit,” January kit for the word. This was hard to do at the time [the upcoming themes seem exciting for me]...lol!
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? No, I am not participating in any classes. I am choosing to navigate OLW on my own without any prompting. However, I did purchase some add-on OLW components from Ali’s shop.
How are you planning to document your word? I am starting a yearbook format for myself, I have yet to decide on a narrow 4x8 Jamaica album or a 6x12 album. If I go 6x12 I would like it to hold at least 2-3 years in it.
Is this your first time participating in OLW? Yes, it is my first time participating as in documenting with photos and embellishments, etc. Last year, I chose manifest/build as companion words and did more of a visualization excercise throughout the year.
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? See above. I had a wonderful experience with visualization, yet documenting the trajectory is something I really wish I had done. This is why I am going to create a habit of archiving my journey this year.

What is your word for 2019? allow Why did you choose this word? I tend to be a control freak and need to work on just allowing and accepting things as they are. I need to allow myself the freedom to be who I really am and not who others need me to be. Also, I need to allow myself to be spontaneous and have fun. Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help with your OLW? I usually do my own thing but did sign up for Ali's class this year. So happy to have this thread. How are you planning to document your word? 3x8 traveler notebook Is this your first time participating in OLW? No. I've done this the past 4 years. If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? 2015-create, 2016-joy, 2017-kind, 2018-brave. Create and joy were super successful and I learned a lot about myself. Kind and brave were beneficial but not as much as the first too. They all have help me grow and am very happy to participate in this project. One of the things I do "just for me."

What is your word for 2019? TODAY
Why did you choose that word? Each day is a new beginning. I want to cherish each and every day, not worry about the future. I want to make the most of the 24 hours that I am given. Each day is a gift and I don't ever want to take it for granted.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? No, I purchased a class 4-5 years ago, I will just redo that one.
How are you planning to document your word? Probably in a travelers notebook or journal
Is this your first time participating in OLW? No.
If you've participated, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? I've been participating for about 10 years. Some years were definitely more successful than others. HOME, BEGIN, BALANCE, CREATE.
Last year my word was DEEP. Google "Go Deep, Not Wide" concept. The idea is to appreciate, use and cherish what you have. So, say instead of going out to buy a book, read one that you already have at home. You've already bought it and brought it into your home, you should use and enjoy. Or if there is a new hobby you want to start, now is the time to to start it.
It was so transforming that my husband joined in right away and we gained a new appreciation for life and things around us, I don't know that the word could ever be topped. I'm excited to see where TODAY brings me. I am curious to see what he picks as his word, too. It was great to be able to share that experience together.

What is your word for 2019? Simplify
Why did you choose that word? It just felt right.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? No
How are you planning to document your word? Not sure... but watching here for ideas. Previously, I've just written on my calender each month to keep in front of me.
Is this your first time participating in OLW? Yes.
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? I'e never actually participated, but have been doing OLW for a while.

What is your word for 2019? ONE
Why did you choose that word? Towards the end of this year I found myself saying "do one thing at a time" "focus on one thing" "you are only one person" "take one breath". The other day it just hit me that my word is one. I would like to stay present, be focused and stop running around with my head cut off. One feels like a meditative word that I can repeat over and over when I need to.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? I signed up last year and didn't do a single prompt so I'm going to use last years class.
How are you planning to document your word? I purchased Ali's kit from last year. Going to use it!
Is this your first time participating in OLW? I'm going to answer yes.
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project?

I’m going to start out by saying, I was actually going to take a break from OLW in 2019. But when I was reflecting on my word from 2018, a word jumped out at me! I think it’s the first time I didn’t actually choose a word but it chose me! 1. My word in 2019 is CREATE 2. Like I mentioned above, it actually chose me. My word last year was SelfCare which was a really good word for me. I set Self Care goals each month to focus on and in April I chose to focus on creating at least ten minutes a day for fun. It was a huge success and I realized I wanted to try that again more long term. As I have thought about my word more I also realize create is not just limited to my hobby. So I am exploring more possibilities with it. 3. I am participating in Ali’s class again this year because I found it extremely helpful and kept me more involved with my word than I have been in the past. The fb community was helpful as well. 4. I am doing a 6x8 mini album which I actually bought from Ali’s site this year. Last year I used a Simple Sories 6x8 leather album which I realize now is better quality in my opinion. And I’m not really liking that Ali’s is a six hole binder. I knew that going in though but didn’t realize how much it bothers me now. Lol 5. I have done OLW several times over the past six or seven years 6. Previous words were SelfCare, Breathe, Humor, Focus, and Trust. I usually start off strong then lose steam about March or April. The class kept me focused this year through September and then I got busy. But I still finished out the year thinking about my word. I just haven’t finished my album yet.

What is your word for 2019? Move
Why did you choose that word? I need to work on physical movement. I feel better both emotionally and physically when I have spent my day not solely on my butt. I also see a potential move into a new home in 2019. I anticipate that throughout the year there will be times that I need to focus on moving on, moving forward, and moving past different obstacles.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? No, but I'm excited for this here!
How are you planning to document your word? I don't really need another scrapbooking project, so I plan on documenting my word in a year long digital journal. If I have pictures or links I want to include, I'll do that as well.
Is this your first time participating in OLW? Yes

What is your word for 2019?
I'm so excited to join in this project!
Why did you choose that word? Simplify or Intentional. I'm still trying to decide.
Why did you choose that word? Those words called to me. I need to focus on what is important in 2019. 2018 started with a hospital stay and surgery. That put my life in to perspective. I want to focus on what is important in 2019. I want to get rid of what we don't need around the house. I want us to let go of stress. I want a balanced home life for my family. I want to continue to focus on improving my health. I want to focus on providing a solid foundation in 2019. I want to streamline things at home and work. Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? Yes. I just purchased it this morning!
How are you planning to document your word? I will follow along with Ali's class.
Is this your first time participating in OLW? Yes!

Why did you choose this word? I tend to be a control freak and need to work on just allowing and accepting things as they are. I need to allow myself the freedom to be who I really am and not who others need me to be. Also, I need to allow myself to be spontaneous and have fun. Oh gosh, how this speaks to me!

I don't participate in the One Little Word class.
I do choose a word(s) every year, to serve as a guide as to how I want to live my life. Sometimes I choose one word, sometimes more than one word.
My word(s) for 2019 is >> Live Simply. Spend less. Save more.

Last year my word was DEEP. Google "Go Deep, Not Wide" concept. The idea is to appreciate, use and cherish what you have. So, say instead of going out to buy a I think maybe we read the same blog post because that was my jumping off point for last year too! I'm really not good at deep, I tend to jump around a lot and part of what I wanted to do (and still want to do) is to stay focused on something and develop that instead of jumping around so much.

Aloha, everyone!
So excited to see this thread!
What is your word for 2019? Breathe
Why did you choose that word? Two years ago, when my youngest started kindergarten, I went back to college full-time. Since then, I barely have had time to just RELAX. I haven't had a regular yoga practice or exercised regularly since then. Not good considering I have health issues! Lately, I've really been thinking about my priorities. I need to make my family and health a priority -- not school. While it has always been a dream of mine to go back to school, being healthy and enjoying my family are far more important. I will continue my college journey, just not allow it to consume me as it has been for the past two years. I struggle to find that balance because I tend to dive head first into projects I get really excited about! I decided on the word BREATHE because 1) it represents the time I spend not feeling stressed by all I need to do and 2) it also represents my goal to incorporate a regular yoga and meditation practice like I once had. I look forward to having time to stretch and meditate.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? I am participating in Ali's class.
How are you planning to document your word? I am using a 6 x 8 album from Ali Edwards and following along with the OLW class.
Is this your first time participating in OLW? I attempted to several years ago.
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? The word I chose previously was BLOOM. I have to say that I failed miserably at following through. I printed out all the prompts but only actually did maybe 3 of the "assignments. I really hope 2019 holds a much more successful result for me!

What is your word for 2019? CREATE, although I'm still considering other words...
Why did you choose that word? My word last year was FOCUS. It was a good year but I need more balance and some other things and I thought create balance, create habits, create... would work for multiple goals.
Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? No
How are you planning to document your word? Probably a scrapbook page about why I picked the word, and one at the end of the year about how it went.
Is this your first time participating in OLW? No.
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project? Previous words have been adventure, words, light and focus. I took the class once but only got a few months in, my word wasn't a verb (words) so the prompts didn't work very well that year...

Are you participating in Ali's class or another class/program on the internet to help you with your OLW? nope
How are you planning to document your word? I don't document - I just try to focus on a word and quote and use it to guide me through the year
Is this your first time participating in OLW? no
If you've participated before, what were your previous words & how was your experience with the project?
Progress - positive in some areas, not so in others Health - ugh - enough said Joy - this one was tough - in part because it was a year in which finding joy was hard work but I'm still calling it a success because it reminded me to try Simplify -this one was the most successful, I think

I am going to participate in OLW. First time-using a 6x8 album I got for Christmas. I am not tank c Ali’s class-just doing it on my own. My word is Joy. I’m a full time college student, mom to 3 and wife. This last semester was HARD on me and towards the end JOY just kept popping up all over so I’m going with it. Learning to find Joy in all seasons.
