Oh, JFC. I'll have this discussion when we all put down our copies of 50 Shades. JFC & an unamusing "shade" comment because I pointed out that the man in your great love story RAPED the woman? It sounds like you actually have read too many books that glorify the sexual abuse of women.

Sam and Dean. For relationship goals and “real” love I would have to say Pam and Jim and Chandler and Monica. I never liked Ross and Rachel, especially after the way he acted during the “break”. I liked Chandler and Monica’s relationship so much more.

Hal and Lois on Malcolm in the Middle...because my kids say that's me and their dad...lol Also Rochelle and I can't remember the dad's name (played by Terry Crews) on Everybody Hates Chris, apparently I'm also Rochelle.

Anyone remember Hart to Hart? My childhood memory could be wrong, but I always remembered that couple as being ideal.

General Hospital, 1981 - Luke and Laura. Ew. I’ve cme to view that story in a whole different light. Ew. ive recently been watching reruns/ clips that I was too young to watch at the time and it was 100 percent a non- consensual rape. There was no gray area.

My DH says Jamie Sommers and Steve Austin ... That isn't going back a few years ago... (they were JUST on something together... Fuller House!!!) Man oh man have they aged!! (I saw him around 1989 at a party but was to chicken to say anything!!) You saw Steve Austin in person? Was he hot? I am sure he is bionic by now after being a stunt man for most of his life. Hips, shoulders, knees. Still you saw Steve Austin!!!

It was a straight up, she fought back, begged him not to, suffered tremendously afterwards as a result of it- rape. The whole bit, intimacy issues with her husband Scott after, flashbacks, fear, etc. It was treated as a rape. ZERO gray areas. It had the potentional to REALLY educate about rape and instead they turned it into a freaking LOVE story after the fact. It is disgusting and that mentality plays a big part in where we are in regards to these issues today.

I never those rape romance books either.

I just re-watched their wedding and the last scene in which Pam's head is resting on Jim's shoulder after they get married at Niagara Falls is so sweet. The smile on Jim's face brought tears to my eyes. Does anyone remember watching Homefront? I remember just loving Jeff and Ginger's love story. I can't remember if they ever got together or if the show was cancelled before they got their happily ever after. Loved Homefront! If I remember correctly, Jeff and Ginger got together at the very end, on a train to wherever he was going for a baseball tryout. I really wish that show would show up on DVD or Netflix.

Then I didn't watch it for a while and when I restarted they were getting married...I was like WTF??? he raped her and now they are getting married?? Those were the days before the internet and I couldn't look up what the hell happened. I couldn't ever see them together without cringing and I agree, that they turned a rape into some sort of love story was disgusting. Even more disgusting that there was no viewer backlash and millions of women just accepted that a girl saying no really wanted the guy to force her to have sex anyway...and then they all watched the wedding as if it was the most romantic thing ever.

Wow, until this thread, I had NO idea. I was never a big soap opera watcher, but when I was in college, lots of my friends watched, and I do remember all the hullabaloo over the Luke and Laura wedding.
Wow. I read a few things about it today, and that the writers took the story line in that direction is truly disgusting and unbelievable. No wonder so many women of our generation "normalized" sexual assault as okay, or just boys being boys/seduction, etc.
YUCK.
