I watched all of the episodes for this season in three days. I rarely binge watch anything, but have been scrapping like crazy and this is the perfect thing to listen to while putting together kits. The church really has their shit together to keep people in the church or if they leave, they have to pay so much in order to keep in contact with family. It all sounds crazy. I can see them going after anyone in the IRS who would try to keep them from getting a tax exempt status. Look at what they did to the guy who hired Mike. Crazy people. That episode about Mike’s-boss-the-inventor was absolutely heartbreaking. I mean, the episodes are ALL sad, but the “church’s” single-minded harassment campaigns are especially astonishing. They’re like the Mob. Regarding the internet, from what I understand, members use the internet for social media and information, but they are prohibited from reading non-approved information about Scientology. Scientology pays big bucks to get all their sites (about themselves or their enemies) bumped to the top of your Google search results, so they’re trying to control the internet research of non-members, too. It all makes me admire Katie Holmes - and her father - for the stealth divorce and child custody caper she pulled off.

Great basis for a tension filled horror classic.

Each week, the stories are so astonishing. The heartbreaking tales of people having to leave their families. I have so much admiration for everyone who is taking part in revealing this travesty. Scientology is so powerful that it would take enormous will for our government to intervene. I hope it happens someday. Leah and Mike are so brave. Katie Holmes is one of the fortunate ones. Nicole Kidman unfortunately was not, since they kept her children.

In order to get tax-exempt status, they hounded the IRS for years, blackmailing IRS workers, etc. It was an exciting announcement for the members when David Miscavige told everyone they finally "won the war" to get tax exemption. I don't remember if it was a previous season's episode or some other special re: Scientology ("Going Clear" maybe?), but I remember watching it a while ago.

I think that Katie's little one was just too young. I also wonder if Katie had a few stories to tell if she didn't get out with her kid.

I think Katie learned a ton from what happened to Nicole and essentially presented Tom with a "sign this or I tell" situation, whereas Nicole left without a plan. I have no doubt the it was Suri coming to school age that pushed Katie to leave.

I remember seeing a documentary where they told a horrific story about a woman who escaped and they hinted that it was Nicole Kidman. They had her in a room doing one of their brainwashing sessions. If I remember correctly she became seriously and that's how she was able to escape. Does anyone remember that story?

I thought she was forced to be part of a weird ceremony and they had to call an ambulance. One of the EMTs or ER workers told the story IIRC.

The thing that is never talked about is any kind of weird sex cult stuff, or pedophilia. These kind of cults are always about control, and sex is always a part of it. Can it really be pure and innocent, when everything else is so bizarre?

Thank goodness because he was pretty scary looking.

Someone will talk someday.

Can it really be pure and innocent, when everything else is so bizarre? There have been several women on the show who have talked about being molested in the camps and schools for kids of Sea Org members. I would imagine that kind of thing has been rampant, they yanked so many of those kids from their families and put them under the control of other adults with no escape. But I don't recall hearing any adult sexual weirdness or non-consensual stuff. The Sea Org seems pretty sexless, IMO. Every scrap of energy goes into their duties, and coupling up doesn't seem like it's real encouraged.

I find the religion/cult so crazy because it is so mainstream....so many followers. I would absolutely be scared to live in an area with a high density of Scientology members because I would be terrified my children would be brainwashed to follow the religion. I really truly hope Leah gets this cult shut down.

My sister lives near the Clearwater building.. so it's one of the 'must' things to drive by when visiting her.. (I haven't been there).. but she said it is so creepy to even be around that area. She says she even feels like she is being watched She probably is being watched - I'm sure they have hundreds of cameras around that place. She would be the one flipping them off too and picking up runaways... She would probably try to storm the building too... and if I lived by her we would be a force.. hahaha well until there was guns drawn.. probably draw the line at that

I would LOVE to see Nicole Kidman write a tell all book.. I bet she could really be a wealth of knowledge. But sadly it will probably never happen... I can't imagine losing your children to that religion AND Tom Cruise.

That paramedic story about Nicole Kidman was crazy. Here's the thing though. When Tom and Nicole split up it seemed to me like Tom left her, not that she left him like Katie did. I remember kind of having the impression that Tom was sterile and Nicole had gotten pregnant and he thought she cheated on him so he left her. Then when Katie got pregnant he was over the moon excited, jumping on Oprah's couch, because he knew the baby was his and he wasn't sterile after all. But, ooops, maybe Nicole's baby was his after all, too.
I remember seeing Nicole on Jay Leno a couple of weeks later after their split was announced and she was still just shattered, you could tell. It didn't seem to me like she was all "Thank God I got away from all that Scientology craziness" but really that she was absolutely heartbroken. And then she miscarried.
I wonder if we'll ever hear the real story. I'm just happy for Katie and Nicole that they got out.

I can't imagine losing your children to that religion AND Tom Cruise. Me too but as you said, I'm sure we will never see that - probably because of several reasons...she is probably afraid of the Scientologist, she probably had to sign some kind of non-disclosure agreement when she either got married or divorced and also because she is just a graceful person and doesn't want to tarnish anyone.
It is sad that her children, who are still Scientologist, disconnected from her. Also, now knowing what I do about Scientology, they weren't even really raised by Tom or Nichole anyway - they were separated from them when they were young and were raised by "the church" - not their family. I'm sure that had a large part in why Katie Holmes left in such a secret way. She didn't want to turn her child over to them and she knew she had to escape before that could happen. Now, there is a tell-all I would love to read!!

I agree with Nicole - she seemed truly devastated that Tom wanted a divorce and I remember he did it just shy of 10 years (which he did because of the community property laws in California). She said she didn't see it coming at all. How sad - but in the end, it all worked out for her, she seems very happy now.

Nicole and Tom were married for 11 years (1990 - 2001). Mike Rinder has talked about his role in undermining their relationship. IMHO, Nicole wasn't buying into Scientology as she moved further up. Most people have talked about the first levels being really common sense, self-help and improvement type stuff that sucks you in. The more she resisted, the harder they worked on Tom to keep him in. If she asked Tom to leave with her, or resisted the kids going to a Scientology school, or questioned anything about all their staff being Scientologist it would play into the narrative that she was an SP and he had to leave her to save himself and their kids. I'm sure she was devastated and heartbroken that the man she loved chose this bizarre religion over her. I'm sure the hardest decision of her life was not to fight for custody and hope that they know she would always be there for them.

She sees the light and know it is crazy and wants out but a little too late as Tom is climbing the ladder. Kids are there because well, who knows where the kids are but they stay there. She has no choice and gets out and risks losing her kids to Scientology which she did. Hopefully one day they will see the light and know their mom loves them and wants them out. And of course she can't have contact with them. God what a horrible situation. And if that story by the EMT is true.. it's even MORE crazy than I imagined. I love seeing her now with Keith Urban.. she seems like a totally different very happy person. I love seeing her at the music awards bouncing around to the music.

That's what I remember hearing as well. He didn't want her to be able to get more of his money. I know she always said it was his baby to. She seems truly happy now and I hope she is after that craziness.

He just seems to be uber-protected there in his little kingdom and above the law, doesn't he? The level of abuse they were describing last night makes me think even more that he killed his wife Shelley in a fit of rage and it's just all been covered up by his brainwashed minions.

Ohh I haven't watched last night's episode yet.... uugggg I think the most frustrating thing is, like someone said, FIVE people witness a crime but yet nothing is done... I just don't understand. Five women can accuse a man of rape (outside that cult) and he is charged.. what is the difference? (of course I know what the difference is..) but really?? So frustrating.
