Hi everyone, I wandered over from NSBR and Project Life has me intrigued. I used to SB several years ago (maybe 10? Yikes time flies!). Soooooo, if I wanted to do this how would I get started? What do I need to know? Size recommendation? I wouldn't do 12x12. I was thinking the 9x12 was interesting but I'm going to have limited patience for dealing with getting stock of page protectors, if that's an issue. I think a lot of us here do our PL much in the same style as Ali Edwards... a mix of photos (people/places/things), ephemera from the everyday and special occasions, and photo-less stories. You might pop over to her blog and check out some of the PL spreads she has shared over the years for some ideas if that suits your style. She does have a great class IMO, storytelling with project life, that is great if you really like her style and want to dive in but need some guidance and suggestions.

Not that I'm trying to enable or anything, but I just saw these in stock at Scrapbook.com Pinkfresh Everyday Musings Pocket CardsThey look beautiful! Has Pinkfresh always done pocket cards, and I've missed them somehow?

Is this class mainly just about doing PL weekly, or is it like a deeper dive into using pocket pages to tell in-depth stories, but not necessarily weekly for a year? I'm not sure if I'm clear on what I mean. I generally like her classes and might be interested in this. I like to get a list going of classes to buy and then wait for a sale, though, we probably won't get one until International Scrapbooking Day in May, I'm assuming.

I hesitate to answer about it that definitively since I took the class 3 years ago... but I went back to the class and took a screen shot of the lesson summaries for you in case that is helpful. I took the class to help prep me for doing weekly PL and figuring out what I would want to document/capture and how after being wrapped up in documenting just about my babies for many years (albeit using pocket pages). So I had a much different focus and goal going into it. For me it was more about what kinds of details would I like to capture (or not and which ones did I never think about before) and how to pull that together into a spread. It also gave me a lot of inspiration for creating the larger spreads with an eclectic mix of photos/ephemera/etc. and how to incorporate product without getting carried away. I also picked up some good ideas for streamlining my process and using design formulas to keep it quick, easy, and interesting. But I am sure there has to be someone else here who went in with a story telling focus and walked away with more great ideas on how to work them into the pockets (if that is what you are looking for). While I do not use pocket pages my scrap style is very grid like - pretty much pocket look without the protector. I also scrap chronologically and am fairly caught up except for Christmas and week 2 and 3 of new granddaughter.
I like to include lots of details and love when I can find a pl type sentiment to work with photos I know I have or know I will take.

I was perusing instagram and didn't know Kiwi Lane had products for pocket scrapping. I know not too many peas use their templates, but if you scroll down a bit on this link, you'll see the paper packs they sell. I really like the color combos. Very little pink. I haven't bought directly from their site before.

I'm up to November in photo sorting. Finally sat down to spend an hour or so working on it after uploading what I had taken through January a couple of weeks ago. The editing is the really time consuming part. I think I'm going to just have to end up accepting that not every speck of trash needs to be edited off of the floor and that not every speck of food from my kids' messy mouths needs to be touched up. My problem is that when I take the pictures I either don't care or don't notice...but when I go to order pictures, it's all I can see and I know I will notice and be bothered by it all when I add the photo to my albums.

I'm toying around with the idea of a vertical 4x6 PL-ish mini book for the year. I could use all these cards from the only core kit I've kept (and hoarded, to be honest), some flat ephemera from my stash and still get crafty with physical product if I go that route. What to do? What to do? My digi photobook is up to date but I'm really itching to make a year-long mini. How thick would that thing get though? What am I getting myself into? That would be crazy, wouldn't it? (and yes, I know I could break it down in several volumes but the idea is to keep it small and manageable considering my shared 430 square feet living space) AAARGH.

Has Pinkfresh always done pocket cards, and I've missed them somehow? They have done pocket cards before, yes. Not sure if there is a set for every line they come out with but I've bought and used Pinkfresh pocket cards in the past. Like pancakes , they have a little too much foil for me...

(and yes, I know I could break it down in several volumes but the idea is to keep it small and manageable considering my shared 430 square feet living space) AAARGH. I did this in 2012 and just used large binder rings. This was the year before I started "official" project life because I wasn't sure if it was something I could keep up with/wanted to do. My pages were some in pockets and some outside of pockets, I think my album was 5x7 though. Back then I created a lot of my own supplies so I'm pretty sure I just made the album out of cut down chipboard rather than purchasing a standard size. I think I added 3-4 spreads per month and it was chunky at the end but fit, but I also didn't only stick to flat ephemera. This makes me want to dig it out of storage and look at it again!
I think you should go for it! Especially if you're using a digi photobook for the majority of your documentation because this will give you somewhere little to play with supplies and not worry about what doesn't make it in the book. What if you do it as one or two highlighted stories per month, rather than a monthly overview, and included the monthly overview type stuff in the digi book?
Another thought though, if space is really an issue, are you sure 4x6 is ideal? I guess it depends on how you store it so you should probably decide on that first. If you're planning on sticking it on a book shelf, the shelf height/depth could probably accommodate larger dimensions without taking up more space, instead it's the width of the book that would affect how much space it takes up... so a thinner 6x8 album would take up less "space" than a thick 4x6 album on a standard size book shelf. If you're storing it in a box or something though then maybe that's not the case. I hope that makes sense...

lasteve1 Thanks for the advice! I have loads of experience with tiny format storage, no worries. It's mini album galore here. 😄 Since I bind them with rings or string, there is no spine issue meaning I store them flat and stacked on my shelves (please don't do this to your spined albums or books, folks, so so bad despite being trendy). No problem there. I can easily have 6 mini albums taking up the same shelf space as just the one Inked 6x8 album.
I'm definitely not going to do more than a few personal stories a month (they're in the digi book anyway) but I so want to have this one place that holds everything, including world news, just a good linear, chronological overview of 2019 where each spread is one anecdote. Like a brick of a yearbook, if that makes sense.
It's too late now anyway: I just typed up the polar vortex story on one of my hoarded 4x6 cards and added a piece of flat ephemera. Looks like I jumped in with both feet... Eep! Haven't quite rid myself of my impulsive nature yet. 🙈

Just wondering: Do any of you use the Felicity Jane kit for your PL?
I am not a subscriber, but I was just curious.

Just wondering: Do any of you use the Felicity Jane kit for your PL? I am not a subscriber, but I was just curious. I've considered it, but after using the FJ kit exclusively for my December Daily, I just don't think it's enough for PL. Unless you are ok with making all your own 4x6 cards or are photo heavy. I believe you get about 8 3x4 cards with the kit, half of which are not usable for journaling. I really wish she'd release a 6x6 paper pad each month, then it would definitely be easier for me. That said, I still plan on subbing to her kit for all the beautiful items.

Just wondering: Do any of you use the Felicity Jane kit for your PL? I am not a subscriber, but I was just curious. I am not a subscriber, but these kits are on the list of kits I check out each month to decide if I want to pick them up. I probably get 1-2 kits per year and then I use them primarily in my project life, but I mix them in with other supplies I have. On their own, I find them too floral/pastel, but when I mix them in with other supplies they can fit my aesthetic.
I have found a lot of the 3x4 cards are difficult to use though. I tend to really like the embellishments, especially some months when she has these super mini puffy stickers--in shapes like hearts, stars, dots, etc., they are really tiny and work really well as bullets for a list of weekly highlights. I also really love the 12x12 papers she includes and find them super versatile. I will crop some of them down to create 4x6 title cards by adding a label or will use them in other ways, such as cropped to 3x4 as a backing for ephemera. Although I use the kit in PL, I wouldn't recommend it if you don't also do traditional pages because some of the elements don't work well in PL--for example, the alphas she includes each month are usually too large to really work well in PL.

Kicking off the PL party by sharing my January moments and things to document so far:
1. Hikes on the shore were our favourite thing this month; 🌊 2. A day in Paris and one in Disneyland; 🏰 3. Home-made brunch with bacon and gruyère waffles, yogurt parfaits, cappuccino and MOAR; 🍽️ 4. The cold, harsh winter after such a soft and mild December (thanks to previous PL albums, I have actual proof that other years are nowhere near as cold by late January); ❄️ 5. A lot of bingewatching from under the warm blanket around here (Luther season 5, Derry Girls, Travelers season 3, Patriot season 2 and finally got around to watching Marvel's Daredevil); 6. Workout playlist of the month (Way Back Home [Sam Feldt edit] - Shaun ft. Conor Maynard, Call You - Cash Cash ft. Nasri of MAGIC!, Speechless - Robin Schulz ft. Erika Sirola, All Into Nothing - R3hab ft. Mokita, Brightside - BRKLYN & Disco Fries ft. Lena Leon, More Than Enough [HVNNIBVL chill remix], HVNNIBVL); 7. Favourites from the Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture currently taking place (Iris Van Herpen bringing it! #slowclap); 😍
8. Managing *not* to get fully sick (fingers. effin'. crossed) 9. Museum Sunday; 10. Winter sales buys. 💸 I'm doing a digi photobook this year (eep, I know!) as well as a thicc 4x6 moodbook with my paper scraps. I might end up doing a monthly recap 6x8 album later on but it's not a goal I'm working towards. *le shrug* I want to be in YOUR life

I know there are a lot of peas who prefer the WRMK 12x12 page protectors over the BH Project Life and they are becoming hard to find. There are Photo Sleeves 12"X12" 50/Pkg-(6) 4"X6" Pockets on scrapbooksteals.com today for $19.84. I like to use this size when I have a lot of event photos. Now that I use a cell phone 99% of the time, I typically take a lot of vertical photos. I use the Photosheet program to print 2, 3x4 photos on one 4x6.
ETA: 12x12 albums on sale too. I've heard the shipping is quite high for these on this site. You used to be able to order online and pick up your order (they are in Utah) and that's how I got mine.

lasteve1 I'm glad you posted this, I was looking at FJ yesterday and thinking of subbing. I tend to use a lot of journaling cards in my PL and wondered if there would be enough to get by in the FJ kit. I love the FJ aesthetic. I'm contemplating a radical change in my PL/scrapping - if I ditch my SC Documenter sub, I will also ditch my AE SOTM, because I don't think it would mix well with FJ. That would also mean switching up my style to less documenting - a logical choice for an empty nester who seems to document the same thing over and over again (the cat, Friday night dinners out, food). I'm just not sure I'm ready to do that yet. First world problems. My existential crisis for the day.

I can easily fit two years into one album and I currently have three kids at home.
It's just little things here and there with me. I typically don't want to scrap a whole page.

I looked back through my old PL albums. I have 4 years of 12x12 physical albums done weekly. While I do love this size because I usually have a lot of pictures for one week I find the albums big and cumbersome. I have one year that I did using only the PL app and printed the pages 8x8. I loved this size from a handling & storage perspective and could still get all my photos in, but I found it was difficult to include memorbilia which is one of my favorite parts of PL. I would like to use the app but I have a year's worth of AE SBTM kits that I want to use up. I went ahead & ordered a 9x12 album from AE. I think I'll give it a whirl and see if it works for me. I have a ridiculous amount of BH page protectors so it annoys me that the holes don't line up.
Side note looking back I consistently run out of steam on this project about mid year. I really love it but I have yet to finish an full year. Maybe I should switch to monthly.

If FJ is your aesthetic though I wouldn't want to dissuade you from buying, they are really high quality products. I would suggest supplementing it with just solid white card stock or grid card stock for additional journaling cards? I've made my own journaling cards in the past by using a strip of patterned paper along the top or bottom edge of a white or grid card.

I lost my mojo last summer, and have May - November to scrap for 2018. I just finished December, and plan to go ahead with January, filling in 2018 at the same time.
I also went back to 12x12 album layouts for a workshop I attended last weekend. Everything is pretty well organized, but there’s a lot of it with so much going on. I’m going to be scrapping my booty off this year!
One season is done, anyway! Christmas is officially over and put away.

Disneyland Paris was my first Disney park. I couldn't get over how the subway just dropped you off at its doors. Also loved how people spoke English to your face and then French when you walked away. (No different than other countries, but French is such a beautiful sounding language.).

Hey U.S. peas, it's Super Bowl Sunday! Rams vs Patriots. I don't care who wins, but if I had to pick I'm going with the Rams. Are you going to document? I watch for the commercials. Do you have any traditions? In my family, we have Soup-er bowl Sunday. Each sibling brings a crockpot of soup. Then there's various snacks and desserts. I'll be staying home because my son has had pneumonia. I think he should be good to go to school tomorrow. I'm going to keep a close eye on him today though.

Like most people, I'm tired of seeing the Patriots. But I also dislike the Rams, if only because my husband is from St. Louis, and the owner really f-ed the city with that move. I'm not sure if I will watch, but if I do, I will probably document it.
