I don't usually listen to the Becky Higgins podcast- but this one intrigued me because it's the story of the company, beginning to current and she said it was 'warts and all'. (I didn't know there were BH/PL warts to be had.)
She's super discreet and doesn't name names, but she mentioned being in a partnership with an individual or a company at some point, and they decided to part ways with them. That person apparently lost their shit in an epic way- big meltdown - and ended up filing a lawsuit against them. It must have been a big deal- but I don't remember hearing anything about it. She also said they very nearly signed on with another company (this was all pre- AC partnership) and had a bad feeling about it. They declined and later found out the company they were considering working with was already in the process of ripping them off by copying their product. Wondering about that too.
Does anyone know? Again, I admit extreme nosiness.

Thanks for that link! Reading now.  I was a little hesitant to take this question over there -probably because I am not active there and I remember the old GS board was not always the best place to ask a question that could be viewed as critical. Reading the linked thread though, makes me think I should check in over there more often. I have a shit-ton of BH cards- most I got on sale and I need to think of a way to use my excess. I do like the method- but I don't use it exclusively. I still throw in a regular page in the middle of pocket pages. I like to do big creative pages sometimes. I don't SB often though and the pocket pages are a godsend helping me deal with a backlog of printed pictures. (It's not as bad as it could be, for sure.) I was just really surprised to find out that BH is not the Universal Queen of All Things anymore. Don't get me wrong- I don't dislike her. I think she had gotten too far away from her roots with the home dec and jewelry and clothes- and she seems to be trying to right the ship. I like the app a lot. I can live without the constant references to religion. But that's just me. Other people might find it uplifting. |

Could the lawsuit be about Lisa Bearnson? Becky Higgins actually did partner with Studio Calico, so I don't think it could be possible that she is talking about SC for the "very nearly signed on" thing.

She partnered with Studio Calico and Stampin' Up. The company that she said copied her product may have been Simple Stories or Mambi? They seemed to have a lot of PL card sets back in the day.

I used to love Becky Higgins back in the scrapbooking hey day.  I have gotten rid of most of my old books and magazines, but I still have Becky's books. I have read some of the long BH thread on the general scrapbooking board, and whenever I do, I always wonder if she has a thick skin, cuz that thread is a bit brutal. I have no doubt that a lot of people raise valid concerns about her brand and product, but wow. Some people are just downright mean. |

I have read some of the long BH thread on the general scrapbooking board, and whenever I do, I always wonder if she has a thick skin, cuz that thread is a bit brutal. I have no doubt that a lot of people raise valid concerns about her brand and product, but wow. Some people are just downright mean. This. I still love and keep BHs books. The way she has it set up, it can be changed up for anyone's style. Make it your own. Her Sketches book to me is like one of the bibles of SB'ing. |

SC and SU are the only ones (pre-AC) that I would think would be described as a partnership. Sure she used printers and manufacturers for her products along the way, but I think you would refer to them as that not partners. I don’t know enough about SU to know if that would go south... but AF wouldn’t surprise me a bit. That kit was a big deal and had to have brought SC huge numbers of new subscribers (I was one that jumped on launch day). Any 2pea sleuths uncovered any sort of court filings from the depths of the internet yet!?  Granted I had taken a break from memory keeping, but I feel like pocket scrapping joining up with the kit club world was a huge development and shift in the world of scrapbooking and things that would follow like the TN and planner trends. Love or hate BH.... I have to say that her method/products/approach to memory keeping brought me back to the hobby around the time I started having children and for that I am extremely grateful as I sit here looking at a cabinet full of completed books of memories and stories. |

Definitely not Lisa Bearnson- she was very specific that she was not talking about Lisa Bearnson in any of the stories re: problems.
The first time she said they were going to affiliate with another company, they had a bad feeling and walked away. Later they found out it would have been a terrible pairing- that company was already ripping off her business. The second time they actually DID affiliate with someone and it was fine for a while, but the other place wanted them to move in another direction. She said they didn't want to make the changes or do the things they were pushing for and said it was best to go their separate ways. Whoever the other person/company was flipped out- it sounded like a total meltdown, and they're the ones that sued BH. I did some poking around and came up with nothing. It was surprising that it happened and there was no buzz about it.
The Stampin' Up separation happened in 2017- and though it could be them- I had the impression this happened longer ago than that.

I haven’t scrapped in probably 12 or so years, I was completely unaware of all the “drama.” Anyhow, hope you find the info you’re curious about.

I agree about AF and Inked, especially the part about them wanting to make changes (square corners, anyone?). When they parted, IIRC, SC jumped straight into square corners.
I don’t think the other company is Simple Stories because they were doing pocket-style scrapping already using WRMK divided protectors when BH came out with PL. I think it may be Echo Park, simply because I remember them being the first company to put out a copy of the Design A protectors. It was a bit shocking to me at the time that another company would use that configuration, but then the flood gates opened. But I love Echo Park, and wouldn’t count on BH’s business sense/intuition about a company.

Hey Michy! I surely do miss seeing you on FB. <3 I need to spend more time here than FB anyway- it's more entertaining for sure. Sorry about the time suck. I lost a lot of time here tonight too and needed to share. I honestly think I scrap a couple of times a year- and it's been that way for the last ten years or so. I enjoy it. God knows I am not caught up. But it got to be overwhelming for awhile there. I do miss the days when I headed off to a monthly crop at my favorite store and shopped and snacked a gossiped with fun ladies. |

To give them credit they had already been doing cut aparts for their original pocket configurations. With SJ they started the 4x6/3x4 cards. I think it was something like Memories Made Easy.
I remember being surprised since SJ and BH were friendly.
