Is this so he can give the SOTU?

If I were Nancy, I would not extend an invitation until a budget for the entire year is passed. Also, the House has not voted yet .. so maybe we do, maybe we don’t have a 3 week compromise. If I were a government employee, I would not be reassured. I *do* work for a large government contractor and am worried that we will ha e significant cuts later this year as a direct result of the shutdown so far.

Is this so he can give the SOTU? Possibly. Or to make himself look better after the Stone indictment. I don't think Pelosi will allow it if it's just a stop gap.

In the spirit on compromise/a show of willingness to negotiate, I'd far rather Pelosi permit the SOTU than agree to any sort of funding for a wall.
Though I have to say that Donald is sounding very wishy washy on his beautiful wall now, with all his recent talk about see-through barriers, smart walls (will we need further negotiations to hammer out whether it'll be iOS or Android?), border security, technology, etc. He's definitely backing off on his big beautiful cement wall from sea to "shiny" sea.
No doubt when we end up with an intelligent border security package of increased/repaired/updated fencing, technology, and personnel, Trump will claim it's what he's always said he wanted and that he won. Whatever, dude.

I'm just happy that for now the families/workers will get at least a little bit of relief and hopefully get their back pay quickly!!

Well, we still are waiting for it to be finalized. Senate approved, House approved, but I have yet to see that Trump has signed it. The way it went through so easily with no debate sounds like they really DID hammer out agreed wording before convening. My agency has not gotten any all-clear yet - hopefully those directions to reopen agencies will happen before Monday. 94% of the government workforce at my center have been on furlough, and up to that percentage on contractor workforce. Funny thing is I got a phone call from my VP yesterday authorizing me to work past the end of our funding (our contract would run out as of 1/31 without a CR).

I think he has further backed himself into a corner. He says in 3 weeks if he doesn't get his wall, the government will shut down again or he will use his executive powers to just build the wall anyway. Let him. I'm sure a court challenge is already being prepared so his unwanted wall can be tied up in court for years. He just does not get that the majority of people do not want the wall including the majority of Congress.
The great deal maker got absolutely nothing out of the last 3 weeks. He's a loser.

Is this so he can give the SOTU? Think bigger. Atlanta. Football. The biggest Bowl game of the year. It's a Super game. .

There's no way Trump could risk anything like this morning's airport fiascos in NY happening next week in Atlanta (home of Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport [ATL], the busiest airport in the US).

The Stone indictment is gonna result in nothing but completely bankrupting Stone. You are probably correct. But I still think Trump is worried. If he's worried, it's about the Gestapo-like tactics of storming the home in the early morning ON CAMERA of an older man who was zero flight risk and who's only crime may be the inability to perfectly recall every thing he ever said to anyone at any time. Stone was already known to be on the watch list for at least the last year. He knew his phone was tapped, his email captured, that he had no privacy at all. Blahblahblahblahblah.... Trump said "Lock her up!" and we're now under threat. He does nothing about locking Hillary up, but that matters not a wit. These stormtropperish tactics, however? Totally fine. The FBI is bankrupting good men who have done nothing wrong other than have less than perfect recall while they were grilled for an investigation based on criminally faulty "information" that was paid for by the Clinton Foundation. Hillary Clinton was not subjected to the same treatment. Neither she nor those under her nor in the FBI that have already admitted that they lied or otherwise gave faulty information has had to face any penalty at all. Do I think Trump is shaking in his boots in fear over Stone being indicted? Not one bit. The reporters who were somehow just lucky enough to be there to film the unnecessary armed raid this morning have other opinions. *** 29 Heavily Armed Individuals and 17 Vehicles were needed to bust this 66 year old hardened criminal who was such a flight risk that he had a passport that was on it's last couple of days if not already expired and so much money in the bank that he had to cash out his insurance policies last month. Whatever would we do if CNN hadn't just known to be there?

I was glad to read that the government was open.
I'm just happy for the people who have been either put off for the duration or have been working with no pay.
Hopefully they can now pay their mortgages/rent and other bills that they may need to pay before becoming bankrupt themselves.
That the government can do this so so foreign to me - it is just amazing.

They are going to shut down again in 3 weeks. Nancy is not giving him any money for a physical wall. Trump is too thick headed to back down from this stupid physical construct and won’t consider non-wall solutions. Fun times lay ahead. 🤦‍♀️

Mueller’s indictments are available online for anyone to read them. I’m sincerely wondering, to those that say Stone did nothing wrong, did you read the actual indictments? If so, do you believe that Mueller’s team is wrong or that they don’t have the evidence? Because there are more claims than “poor recall.” Eta: Link to Stone indictment. The other indictments are available on the same site in case anyone is interested in seeing the full charges for the entire investigation. They go far, far beyond memory issues. And have already resulted in many guilty verdicts for a variety of charges.

There are things that are much worse that they might use to get him to testify. We'll see. I don't think Trump is worried because he believes Stone won't testify against him, and maybe he won't, but things get curiouser and curiouser every day.

Also, Mueller is not a newbie, nor is he bad at his job. I seriously do not believe for a moment that this is the nothing burger people are making it out to be.

My brother, an essential FAA employee, said that it took months to get his back pay after the last shutdown. We (both sides) have done this a few times, one would think/hope the process would be more streamlined by now. Make it as easy as possible to help the innocent workers that got dragged into this in the first place recover.

Whatever would we do if CNN hadn't just known to be there? You really think he was indicted because he couldn’t recall everything he ever said to anyone? Here is just one part the reason he was indicted “According to the indictment, the very day Stone testified before the House intelligence committee that he never sent or received written communications with Credico, the pair “exchanged over thirty text messages.” The same day he testified he had not had written communication with him they shared over 30 text messages. Over 30. That is hardly an ability to recall everything he ever said to anyone. Good lord, how can you deny that man is a bald faced liar?

Yeah, lying to Congress. Witness tampering. Nothing at all (in a banana republic, that is).
