Sickening. Inexcusable. Deplorable. Those words aren’t even sufficient. I live near Chicago. Additional details have come out and this whole thing seems pretty shady Shady, as in people think he is lying altogether? There is so much cryptic language in a lot of posts that I really don’t know what people are implying.

That seems strange because I read the Chicago Tribune article this morning which said that police have only reviewed footage from 2 (two!) cameras so far and did identify 2 persons of interests AND confirmed footage of Jussie walking back into his apartment building with the noose around his neck. Obviously, there are still a lot of unanswered questions and investigation to be done but to characterize the whole thing as "shady" seems just as premature as I said believing the TMZ report was in the beginning. Why do we need to have all of the answers and draw conclusions about what happened or didn't happen immediately?

There is so much cryptic language in a lot of posts that I really don’t know what people are imp I don't know what really happened. So much fake news now who know what is the true story. "News" reports are stating...'When he walked into his building after the attack he didn't approach security that was in the foyer' Why won't he let police see his phone? Why would you leave the rope around your neck?

After the attack, maybe his brain was on autopilot and just wanted to get home. I know I wouldn’t be thinking clearly.

I agree with you we don't need all of the answers, but people who live here are concerned. Streeterville is a very safe neighborhood so people are wanting to know the details for their safety. Our local news reported last night that the 2 people on the video may be witnesses not assailants. As for seeing incident as shady. A lot of the "information" coming out doesn't make sense. He refused to let the police look at his phone. That becomes relevant because he told the police that he was on the phone with his manager when he was attacked. He also stated that the manager heard the attack. Why not help the police?
Additionally, when he entered the building, one of the two videos shows he walked right past security and said nothing about the attack. Why was he still wearing the noose? It doesn't make sense that two people would wait with bleach and a noose in subzero weather on an off chance that Jussie would decide to leave the building in the middle of the night?

What do you think they could get from his phone? Proof that he was talking to his manager? Or do you think he was recording? If they just want proof of the phone call, they can do that by checking his phone records. I don't know why he doesn't want them to have his phone, but he doesn't have to give it to them. He could have embarrassing information on there that could get out if he turns it over. Or maybe he has evidence of something illegal that he has done--being a crime victim does not mean that he has to give up his 5th amendment rights not to incriminate himself. He could have any number of reasons for not giving up his phone, but it should not prevent the police from going forward with an investigation.

I hope this isn’t another Geraldo situation here. Not that I prefer people to be so awful as to commit the crime described, but because if it turns out to be fake every single MAGA hat wearing, Trump supporting, racist asshole is going to drag it up when hate crimes are committed.
I honestly don’t have any idea on if this is real or not, but I hope the police can come to a definitive and accurate and solid conclusion.

I can see not wanting to hand over your phone as a celebrity. Anything on there out of the ordinary is newsworthy, unlike your average person.

Jussie stated that he was talking on the phone to his manager who heard the attack. Police stated that they were not requiring him to hand over his phone either.

I don't know whether this story is 100% true or not. We are just going to have to wait until the investigation is complete. I would absolutely not hand my phone over to the police. That is just asking for invasion of my privacy.

There are already many faked hate crimes that have happened in the last couple of years and no one is using them to dismiss this or any other hate crimes that have come up. I think we're safe from that. Everyone has been willing to wait for the facts in that regard.

I believe people are capable of anything in this climate, I believe there are MAGATs that are capable of this and worse. My first reaction hearing this news was horror but as the details have come out since it defies credulity in my mind. And if they can definitively prove that this was staged, I hope he is fully prosecuted and forced to pay restitution. A lot of dollars have been spent reviewing film and apparently with only 60 seconds of him not being filmed, during this time he supposedly fought off two attackers, had a rope placed around his neck, was on the phone with his manager while he fought back, then walked back into his apartment building carrying the subway sandwich. In one minute a rope was put around his neck, a violent struggle in which he has only 1 slight scratch. And his attackers apparently were able to find the one place in Chicago where they wouldn't be filmed and timed it exactly right? And the only persons of interest the cops could find in that area at that time were 2 homeless men that were walking away, not towards the crime, 25 minutes before it supposedly happened? Then the MAGA country line wasn't in the first interview? And two racist MAGATs are apparently watching Empire and can spot a minor character at 2:40 a.m. and know that he's gay?

That is just asking for invasion of my privacy. Totally agree about this. I don't believe this ever happened, but him not turning over the phone is not the reason for my disbelief. I would also be uncomfortable handing over my phone, even if I was a victim of a violent crime.

ABC news is reporting that they have identified the two guys in the video and have raided their home. Apparently one of them worked on the show Empire.

I wonder how long it will take for his two friends to roll over on him? My guess is not long. This whole thing was a bunch of bullshit and it pisses me off that police resources were taken away from REAL crime. Also takes away from other hate crimes. Hope this jackass is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I dont know if what happened is true or not. Hell, I wouldn't even know who this guy is if it weren't for him being on the news this week. BUT I did see his interview with Robin Roberts and I did not find him to be credible. Maybe the attack did happen and he 'stretched' some of the details. Maybe it didn't happen at all. Honestly I just felt like he was not being completely honest.

There was a body language/behaviorial specialist said that he was struck by the extra details thrown in -- said that happens a lot when people are lying.

If he is lying I hope he is charged for lying to the police. He wasted hours of their time, taking resources away from real crime victims who would like to see their perpetrators caught. Plus it doesn't help real victims of racial crimes for him to go around lying like that.
