Still lots of snow at my house....today is garbage day and we have a truck stuck at the bottom of our hill. The driver has been working for about an hour to get free (I can hear the beeping every time he goes in reverse). I'm guessing he won't make it up our street but do hope he frees himself soon. Poor guy.

Poor guy. Poor guy. Big huge kudos to all the different crews out trying to do their jobs in this. It it looks like we have about a foot left in the backyard, and the roads look mainly just wet in our neighborhood. Hopefully the kids will be able to go back to school tomorrow. I spread birdseed out around the perimeter of my backyard this morning, and probably had 50 out there at one time, including a couple of Blue Jays (who are such bullies). They are probably having a tougher time finding food right now.

I’m happy to report that the C+B delivery guys brought my chair this morning. The streets up here are awfully messy and slick, so I’m particularly appreciative! On a whim I checked early this morning and Whole Foods through Prime is delivering, woot! So I made a small order and now I can just stay home, snuggled up in my new chair, one more day. I’d imagine schools will openin Seattle tomorrow. Otherwise they’re gonna have to contend with a lot of parents with pitchforks

Our neighborhood was plowed last night. We now have a cleared section down the middle of the road. The trick is that the snowplow left giant drifts of snow (going up to the window) in front of cars parked on the street and in front of driveways. Now we'll just have to shovel our driveways to meet the path in the middle of the road to get out. We'll also have to dig out my son's car that was parked on the street and is now buried.
No idea if school will be in session tomorrow. I think the roads outside of neighborhoods are OK, but the buses have to mainly travel neighborhood streets. Will be interesting to see where this goes.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't go back until Monday. Things will be a lot better by then, rather than still sketchy tomorrow.

A few %&*#*@! snowflakes are falling right now. It's warmer today, but not enough to melt anything. DS went to the gym this morning. Said the main roads are clear, but the driveway, cul de sac, and neighborhood are bad. If we go back to school tomorrow, I'm guessing 2 hour late start. Then, midwinter break begins on Friday and continues through Monday!
On Facebook I suggested that we refer to February 2019 as the month in which we went to school occasionally.

On Facebook I suggested that we refer to February 2019 as the month in which we went to school occasionally. No kidding! LOL! My DD was sick last week so between the snow days and being sick she went to school for part of 1 day. This week nothing - snow days M-W and Th/Fri is mid winter break. Still waiting on mail to come in but some things may really be backed up with the closing down of I-90. No garbage today or last Wednesday. People are starting to get very testy on FB with regards to school closures, lack of plowing in neighborhoods and people that drive way too fast!

We have mid-winter break Mon-Fri next week. If school is cancelled Thurs/Fri, then we will have 2 complete weeks off.
My son is a senior and graduates on June 16th. It will not be rescheduled because we graduate at the showare center and it's already booked. Wonder how make up days will be handled for Seniors?

Main roads seem good, but side streets and neighborhood streets are really slick. We are all still working from home. Anyone that has gone out has mentioned the slickness and did not do anything more then they had to!
I was going to go to the office and gym tomorrow, but if we freeze tonight I won’t.

Schools and government are closed today.
It wasn’t safe for those who walk to school.

Question. When was the last time your mail was delivered? It's been since last Thursday for me. I doubt they'll make it today either, but hoping for tomorrow. N. Idaho here. We’re getting our mail, but the plow truck just took out our mailbox so that may stop. 😏

We got mail!
And the dentist's office was open so they didn't have to reschedule my cleaning again. I walked a couple of miles each way to get there and the sidewalks are AWFUL! So few people shoveled at all during the storm and now the snow is getting slushy and "lubricated" as the weatherman described it. Some was compact and icy, some with slush underneath, the nasty plow wash which is impossible to walk on, and some clean deep powder. I was having a hard time keeping my balance - not so much slipping like I'd fall on my rear, but my feet slipping sideways and in unpredictable directions. I tried penguin walking, slamming my heels in, all kinds of different gaits but in the end I ditched the lovely wide sidewalks and walked on the sandy shoulders of the plowed roads. Some of the cars need to slow the fuck down, to put it bluntly. I don't care how clear the road is - people need to lay off the gas for a while. But anyway I made it, only a little bit late, and I got an incomparable leg workout in the process.
Came home to shovel a path down the street because obviously the neighbors are never going to do it, and I tried to clear some storm drains but that was rough going, and we don't have them everywhere we need them anyway. Lots of ponding.
I'm wiped out now! Hubby is digging his 80yo mother out of her neighborhood and taking her shopping, hoping to keep her off the road a few more days.

Just checked and still no mail here. Our roads are pretty clear now, and both UPS and FedEx have been through today, but I’m sure the USPS is pretty backed up right now.
I was able to get back to the store today to pick up a few things, and the tree damage I saw everywhere was just incredible. I hope that most of them that didn’t actually break can bounce back eventually.

I walked my dog Friday and Saturday and it was horrible then too. I did order some spikes for my hiking boots before that. They did help a lot on Friday, but it was annoying because I'd get to cleared spots and then spots that hadn't been touched at all. At that time when I walked in the snow it was up past my boots so then of course my feet got wet. I was beginning to want either all clear or all snow, tired of some of each! We did end up walking on the side of the road when possible since it wasn't as deep as the sidewalk and wasn't cleared and messing with my spikes. But then we got on the sidewalk any time a car came, I didn't trust them at all!! As of today we still have not rec'd mail. I'm getting ready to head out just to get out of the house. But it will only be for a couple of hours as I have a phone meeting at 7

Darn, school’s cancelled again for my younger two. There’s still too much plowing to do on the bus routes and in the parking lots . The community college is going to be open though, so I’ll drive my older two there tomorrow. I don’t even want to try and dig my son’s little Honda out .

Seattle schools will be on 2 hour delay tomorrow. I swear I heard all Seattle parent's sighs of relief! So, today I got mail for the first time since Thursday including the package that never made it last week, hurray! Also, my chair was delivered. Prime delivered my Whole Foods order too. Woot! BUT....for the 5th business day in a row UPS loaded my packages on their truck, but then decided they couldn't make it after all. Maybe tomorrow. Or maybe they need to hire the same drivers as USPS, C+B,and Prime do Snark aside, I think 3 out of 4 is pretty darned good all things considered. Especially after hearing about what folks in places like North Bend are dealing with!

Our school district just called 2 hours late for tomorrow.
People are losing their minds on the Facebook page.
They have a good point. Roads are now pretty clear, however, the snow plows put all the snow on the sidewalks and they are buried. For anyone who has to walk to school or a bus stop, it will be a huge problem.
My kid drives he and his sister to school. My concern is whether or not the parking lots have been plowed.
Definitely a case where the district can't win. People are upset when you call off school and when you try to have school.

A couple of years one districts in our area had seniors go to special weekend "classes. They were guest lectures on different subjects as well as tours of the Manhattan Project. Not sure how many kids did attend or what happened to those that didn't.

I was out today, and even though most of the main roads are clear many of the side roads still haven’t been plowed. There are mountains of plowed snow blocking some cars in, and very few cleared sidewalks. And many of the unplowed parking lots are still a disaster. Our Costco lot had been plowed and I still almost got stuck anyway. So while it sucks I understand our district’s reasoning.

We could get snow tonight and tomorrow night. It’s looking good regardless. I am done with winter. The cold is great just the snow and slush are awful. We haven’t had mail for two days.

Roads are now pretty clear, however, the snow plows put all the snow on the sidewalks and they are buried. For anyone who has to walk to school or a bus stop, it will be a huge problem. That's the thing that drives me craziest after the snow stops. Some sidewalks get completely buried. Even trying to cross a cleared road on foot is so hard, climbing over the berm/drift/plow wash, through the slush, trying to do it before the light changes, without falling and getting taken out by some frustrated/incompetent driver. It stresses me out so much (and I don't have kids to worry about - that would be much worse) The snow is manageable on foot until the roads get cleared for cars. I know it has to be done, but... I don't have to like it! gmcwife1 I was so glad to have my snowshoes when the snow was still fresh. They made a huge difference! My hubby is going to order a pair too. But they work better in fresh powder. Once things get plowed and cleared they're more trouble. I was wondering if I needed shoe chains/spikes today, but I don't know that anything would've helped, going between all the different surfaces. The library reopens here tomorrow! BTW if you have library books your friendly neighborhood library staff would love it if you stagger your returns a bit - tomorrow is going to be a nightmare for our staff, having been closed for several days. People put a lot of holds on books when they're snowbound, and they tend to return everything as soon as they can once we reopen.

Nink sorry about your mailbox, that’s a bummer! We came home to our residential streets plowed. Nothing like a 3ft icy berm across your dang driveway, but I’ll be thankful for small miracles that they did it during the daylight instead of at 2:00 am like they normally do. I’m irritated with the several trucks I saw on the way to work that had chains on their tires! I get it! You live higher than most of us, so there are crappy snowy hills, but at the bottom of those hills, there is a giant church parking lot that you could pull into and take them off! You see the main roads are clear! Now you’re just chewing up our already pot hole filled streets! Ugh! Studded tires wreck our roads every season anyway! Chains are 100 times worse! I get postal works and delivery people, but not everyday vehicles! Quit being lazy!!!!! Ok that feels better, sorry for the rant!
