Does anyone ever feel angry and overwhelmed by how much stuff is in their house? yes. I walked through my house today, thinking about the possibility of moving to a smaller home. I have so many things that I am "emotionally" attached to, that I'm not sure a move is possible, or at least a very hard thing to accomplish.

Dropped off a couple of boxes at VV yesterday, and picked up some bins to organize with. I'm off work for the next 3 days, so I'm planning on tackling my daughter's room.

My goal is to actually organize my pantry. I would like to start having dinner parties again. Fancy kind where I actually set the table with beautiful china.

I spent Saturday and Sunday a total of 19 hours helping someone get their craft space sorted and organized. Now she can be creative and have less anxiety. It's awesome!!!!

Any tips? i have a craft room closet that is a bit stuffed and overwhelming. i want it to be functional storage but I always end up playing a big game of moving stuff around without actually getting rid of anything.

Get someone to help that is not invested personally. Then use the S.P.A.C.E theory of organizing. Sort- Only sort. no thought. all paper goes in one pile, all scissors, all adhesives. No mater what make piles of like items. Fast. Purge- state with one pile and edit. make piles of keep, trash, sell , donate. Assign- the stuff you are keeping a space. All scissors in one spot. all paper in one spot. the space should accommodate what you are keeping. Containerize- look at your already acquired container and organizational tools. pick the best one for what you have assigned a spot. Equalize- put stuff back after use. We did not spend one dime on the craft room as we already had what we needed for containers and space. They were just not being used efficiently.

January went by too quickly, which makes me nervous for February since it's so much shorter! I did OK on my goals, but I need to kick it into high gear for this month. 1) winter gear sorted & boxes to barn 2) holiday boxes to barn 3) file taxes 4) clear off kitchen table 5) drain FSA account 6) organize seeds & order seeds 7) defrost & organize chest freezer8) clear phone and install apps 9) go through 2018 receipts, organize important ones & shred all unnecessary ones I am going to make myself not add more goals until these are ALL crossed off the list... Popping in for an update...DH took care of #7 for me, woohoo! Today I am going to give my entire attention to clearing the kitchen table...it's one of those down-the-rabbit-hole chores for me, which is why I avoid it. Tonight we're going to have dinner at the big table (posting here for accountability). Wish me luck!

So glad to see others making progress! There has been zilch accomplished here this month. I was sick the first 2 weeks, then had to travel for a family funeral. What I'd really like is a do-over on February! Tomorrow is free - and I finally feel good - so I plan to work on the sewing room projects and start dealing with the boxes of photos covering the dining room table. Hopefully I'll have some forward motion by the end of the month.

I need to have everything in the same size container, but that is me. Pull everything out. Divide up by craft. Divide the craft by components Label your boxes , put the appropriate thing in the box. Put back in closet by craft.

Tonight we're going to have dinner at the big table (posting here for accountability). Wish me luck! I'm posting while drinking a cup of tea at my sparkling clean kitchen table, yippee! It was a long slog, but I tried to keep my blinders on and focus only on the immediate task at hand. My paper piles have about 50,000 tasks associated with them, so it's easy for me to get distracted. Today I was motivated to Get It Done and I was able to organize, purge, and contain those multiple piles into one small stack with a list of tasks clipped to the top. Not so intimidating any more, yay! Tomorrow I'm taking the kids snowboarding, but if I have extra energy I will work on the clothing and holiday boxes. Hope it goes better for you tomorrow **GypsyGirl**, -- sorry for your loss.

Pull it all out and divide by craft. Sort each category separately. My biggest recommendation is to be ruthless when going through it all. If you haven't finished that project, or used that supply in many years, honestly think about whether you will ever do it. Give yourself permission to get rid of those things. I found it very freeing to ditch those things. Hope it goes better for you tomorrow **GypsyGirl**, -- sorry for your loss. Thank you. It was DH's uncle, a wonderful guy. He was 91 (would have been 92 in May). Just 2 days before he died was his 71st wedding anniversary. The worst part of it all was seeing how heartbroken his wife was. They were inseparable. I worry about her. She is my favorite of all of DH's family.

Didn't see this thread until just now. Heard about a way to declutter is to get rid of/give away 10 things every day for one year. I'm not sure I can do 10, but 5 seems like a reasonable goal. Opened one kitchen drawer and am getting rid of old takeout seasoning packets, a lone measuring spoon from a set I no longer own, a scoop from some canned powder, business cards and part of an old credit cut up credit card.

Part of my problem is odds and ends stuff and random mementos that I don’t want to get rid of but really don’t have a place. Things like weird keychains from my best friend in high school and everytime I look at it, it makes me laugh. I have a box of crayons that a coworker gave to me because they are Disney Cars crayons with a little sticky note from her that makes me smile. Where do I put that kind of stuff? Sentimental to me, cheap nonsense to others... I struggle with those odds and ends.
I do want to empty the craft stuff and sort and purge. I just need a day where I can get it all out and spread it all on the bed, dresser, desk, and floor. Someday soon. I definitely want to do it.

Doesn't have to be your everyday keys, but keys to a shed or something that you might hang on a little hook, or put in your drawer? Or put a pic of the friend in a small shadow box with the keychain? The crayons and post it note would probably be photographed clearly together and framed and hung on a wall.

I made a lot of headway in my bedroom today!
I recycled a whole paper grocery bag full of school papers. Not even special stuff. Just homework sheets, endless fundraiser reminders, classwork. It was only a couple months' worth, and still it was easily a team of paper.
I donated a whole large box of baby and toddler clothes that I had tried to ebay but then had flakers, and I just don't want to see it anymore.
I moved the scrapbook pagemaps-type books to another room with the rest of my physical books. I will eventually donate/rak them.
I cleaned out my purse. I still had the 2017/2018 appointment calendar in it! anyone wanna explain why I had Batman Walkie Talkies in it? LOL 😁
I changed my sheets.
I still need to go through my toiletries, but I am getting very happy with my pared down area.
How is everyone doing?

**GypsyGirl**, I didn't want to like your post -- I'm sure it's bittersweet to have celebrated such an anniversary right before. I wish her well. LavenderLayoutLady, my theory is that our school sends home all that paper so they don't have to deal with the sheer number of trees they kill on a daily basis. They are making all of the parents do their recycling for them. That's my cynical take on it anyway! I feel your pain. Today I blasted through a huge amount of papers, papers, papers, but it doesn't even feel like I made a dent in it. And I have the "no man's land" stack of things I need to get back to someday but aren't worth doing right now. Waaahhhh! The good news is that I found some receipts that might help me with goal #5 and they are on the very top of the pile now. I am going to put my blinders on to all of the other tasks that are calling me and take a quick whack at goal #6, sorting through my seeds. I need to think about my garden on yet another dreary February day!

I seem to have lost all forward motion with my decluttering. The only thing added to the donation bag has been t-shirts and socks. DH replaced all of them so I pulled an equal number of items that still were in good condition. If I want to mark anything off my Feb. list I need to put it in high gear! **GypsyGirl**, I didn't want to like your post -- I'm sure it's bittersweet to have celebrated such an anniversary right before. I wish her well. I understand. Thank you for your comment. It was doubly bittersweet as their anniversary was Valentine's Day. She has amazing support around her, but my fear is that she will just give up. Of all of DH's family, she was always my favorite as she was so kind and welcoming when I joined the family (unlike DH's mom and sister).

Another goal popped up, I’m trying to get rid of my non-seasonal decor box. Either I actually find a place for that stuff or it goes. I had a set of bright orange picture frames that I have been meaning to paint for YEARS! So I finally painted them yesterday and just decided they aren’t going to work after all. They are still too gaudy for what I was going for. Lol of course!

Checking in -- how's everyone doing on their February goals? I am hoping to close out my seed organization today, buy & install Turbo Tax, and hopefully take an initial run on taxes by the end of the day tomorrow. I may also do my phone if I'm inspired. Not terrible progress for a short month. I honestly should tackle the winter gear because I know the second I have it all put back in the barn, we will get spring here in New England and I am truly ready for some sun! Good news/bad news with my seeds...a critter got into them in our basement so I am starting over from scratch. So today I am ordering not only seeds but also lockable containers to store them in. I had some old toolboxes I was using for seeds but they were kind of inconvenient to haul around so I started just putting things in small, open cardboard boxes. Oops! Hoping to find some small metal containers but if not I will get plastic bins. I really don't like using plastic but I don't like critters even more than that. **GypsyGirl**, hoping your relative is doing OK.

My goal/plan for heading into March is to finally clean out the remaining clothes and some HS knick knacks my almost 26 year has left in his old bedroom which we currently use as a guest room. That stuff isn't hurting anyone nor is it really in the way. It's just time for it to go.

I purged all the things that I had been holding on to, and feel that I've met my goals for Feb and just need to upkeep my bedroom.
I took photos of the artwork from my younger kids that I wanted to keep but wasn't something that could be kept long term. Macaroni art, some kind of puffy blue melted snowman art.
The only clothes I own right now are those that fit, and that I wear.
My March goal will be to sort through the seemingly endless toys my youngest kids have. I need to donate the baby toys that are still there. Wooden blocks, Duplos, a bead sorter kind of thing.

cleaned out my makeup drawer last night. i had pantry moths last month so had cleaned out every cabinet and got rid of a lot. pantry stayed empty for about four weeks. i'm just putting my cans back in there. i'll finish that this weekend. next up is the under the bed storage boxes. haven't looked in those in two years. i expect to find some clothes that my kids finally grew into, and a bunch of football pants that are too small now.
