My 72 year old mom has so many autoimmune and other health issues. Lupus, fibromyalgia, hoshimoto, raynauds, spinal stenosis (2 surgeries so far - 2nd surgery caused complications and her intestines ruptured, she became septic and almost died - was in the hospital 3 weeks), stenosis moved up into her neck and the dr is suggesting this as another surgery. She's due to have her knee replaced in 4 weeks and then needs to have both hips, has rheumatoid arthritis, constant migrane like headache (going on 3 years), afib (just diagnosed), mitrovalve prolapse, had surgery for tachacardia a year ago. How much can one person go through!?! She is so positive and upbeat. If you didn't know her as well as I do, you wouldn't know she's in horrendous pain.
She does methotrexate shots, is on a variety of other medications for heart, arthritis, lupus, thyroid, etc. She said recently that if she could find a dr to rx medical marijuana she'd consider it! However, none of her drs do. My childhood friend (friends with her on FB) but we don't talk in real life (a whole different thread) started selling CBD oil. I mentioned this to my mom. She's curious, but I don't want to hit friend up with questions b/c I'm afraid she'll push for us to buy.
How is it used? Orally, topically? What benefits do you find from using it? Just starting to do some research. Thanks!

CBD oil has almost nothing in it or it couldn't be sold over the counter or online. I don't think I would waste my money on it for the conditions your mom has as they are pretty extreme as far as pain levels. I know every state is a little different, but I would tell her doctor you're interested in medical mj and ask if he has a referral and if not, walk into a pot shop and ask them. I'm positive they will be able to direct her to someone. Here in Colorado, it does not take much to get a medical mj license. Just a brief discussion with the doctor and you got it. Good luck getting some help for her. Poor thing.

I have capsules from a dispensary that are CBD oil and coconut oil. They are 20 mg strong one is enough to take the edge off everything without any impairment. The last place I would buy CBD from is a pyramid scheme. Does no one else do mail order? I have CBD in my Japanese jasmine tea also. It’s kind of nice, too. The Peas who use it will tell you better how to get it because I have a source in town for it and that won’t help you.

Maybe I am not taking enough or something because all I get is a place where people seem happy and my comfortable chair is just more comfortable.

I have RA, Hashimoto's and Fibromyalgia. I had been taking 200 mg of Tramadol a day, for 7 or 8 years, along with some hydrocodone on bad days. I have a few friends that have been using medical mj and their successes convinced me to try it. I got approved easily and started using vape pens with varying strengths. They all are a mixture of CBD and MJ. I use a low dosage (5 CBD : 1 THC if I'm going to be driving, 1:1 for most of the time, a 1:4 when I'm being lazy and have nothing important to do and a 1:9 at night. I sleep wonderfully. I had a limp for several years. A month and a half after I began using the MJ I noticed something amazing - I no longer have a limp! My pain levels have gone down from a 7 on most days to a 1 or 2 daily. Oh, and I stopped taking the Tramadol and Hydrocodone totally once I bought the vape pens. Never thought about them again. If you have medical mj in your state I would find a doctor to prescribe it for her. In Florida not every doctor can do that, they have to be specially trained, and most are only in that business now, with several medical mj clinics around here. Nothing I used before came close to relieving my pain.

Is CBD oil legal in your state? If so, I would look for a reputable store that can give info, or do some research online to make sure you are buying from a reputable company. I have heard of a lot of people having success with it for various ailments. I recently bought some but keep forgetting to use it, so can't say what it has done for me. I'm hoping that it will help with inflammation, anxiety, energy and sleep.
CBD has almost no THC in it, but my understanding is that that is not what is necessarily needed to help with reducing symptoms and improving health. I listened to a few podcasts that were very informative, but also information overload. I need to listen to them again, but they were very helpful in explaining the endocannabinoid system and how cannabinoids works.

Since she takes Methotrexate, it’s not recommended to use CBD oil with it. Here’s some information from my Juvenile Arthritis contacts on interactions between the two:
If you're considering use of CBD oil, please read...
I wanted to share something that was posted in another group. I don't know if it's correct, so talk to your doctor before making any decisions. (You should ALWAYS discuss supplements and vitamins with your doctors...if your doctor isn't receptive to any supplements and it's something you want to explore, find a new doctor.) I know some of you are looking into or are giving your child CDB, you might want to look into this if your child is on mtx: "...the clinical team said NO CBD because it binds with chemotherapy drugs like Methotrexate which take longer for body to process- and who wants that in your body at either high or low dose- You can get THC only products- edibles is best- smoking anything always presents immune compromised kids (which Uveitis kids are) at Hight risk for fungal lung infections. So if you choose to use- CBD- never when your kiddon is on Methotrexate. Smoking never ever as long as they are immune compromised- you can get THC only in edible forms in legal states. 10mg is usually the lowest you will find. ...THC will make your kiddo stoned."
Update from comments: Xxxxxxx checked with a pharmacist friend. "(pharmacist) said that there is a binding effect with CBD oil alone ( not when mixed with thc ). This can cause the body to metabolize the methotrexate differently as well as biologics. This can lead to the meds not being as effective or it can cause liver enzymes to go up from the methotrexate not processing thru the same. Like anything it can happen and there is a scientific explanation but that does not mean that each and every kid will experience." Since most of our JA kids are on mtx or a biologic, be careful and disclose CBD oil use with your child's doctor.
ETA: I would ask for a biologic drugs like Humira if her RA is not controlled. Humira has put my daughter into remission and it seems to be working for me, too.

I have a friend who was severely limited due to her fibromyalgia. She started taking CBD oil with a 1:0 ratio, meaning NO THC at all. After a week she was astounded that she could do household projects she hadn't contemplated in years. After 2-3 weeks she was feeling hyper and jittery so cut her already small dose back. She's doing great.
Another friend tried the same oil a few weeks ago and feels transformed as well. Impressive and makes me think about trying it.

Don't buy the CBD oil from that sort of group. It's not as potent.
CBD oil has been a life saver for monthly anxiety/depression for me. Also when I had sciatica, it was the ONLY thing that helped with pain. It didn't take it all away but I had one horrible symptom that it completely took care of and it also made it possible for me to sleep 5-6 hours a night instead of 3-4.

There are two types of CBD oil-the kind made from hemp-that is legal everywhere and is sold online and all sorts of places. You can't tell which brand is good or not. Then there is also the kind of CBD oil made from medical marijuana-this type is far more effective. Do you live in a state that allows medical marijuana? If so I would do everything I could to find out what the process is to get your mother approved as a medical marijuana patient. If this were my mother that's what I would do. Check online for your state's laws and find out what the steps are. Here in Maryland I had to first apply online to the government site, then once that approval came through I had to take my doctor's records to a specific doctor (who's job it is to review my medical records and determine if I qualified as a patient). I did and this doctor signed the paperwork and I got my MMJ card for a year.
What happened next is that I was free to visit the many MMJ dispensaries in Maryland. You don't need to find a doctor to RX medical marijuana. You have to see what your state's laws are and the process they want the patient to go through to get their medical marijuana cards. I had to prove that I had a chronic pain condition that lasted over a year. Sometimes the dispensaries aren't that much help in helping you choose what type of medical marijuana to start with. I personally got no benefit from CBD products. My body just didn't respond to them. I did get a very cheap vape pen ($12.00) and got different strains of MMJ (medical marijuana) at a time to see which would help with my migraines. To find out which strains would help target my pain I looked them up on leafly.com First I would look up what was available at my local MMJ pharmacy (I would buy the oil cartridges-they fit my cheap vape pen) and then I would research those strains on the website. I have 4-5 pharmacies around me so it took a lot of research at first. Another great site is weedmaps.com
If medical marijuana isn't legal in your state than a CBD oil that I have heard good things about is Charlotte's Web although I've never tried it myself. That is something you can order even if medical marijuana isn't legal in your state because it is made from hemp.
I wish the very best for your mother. She has so much to deal with. I truly feel medical marijuana can really help her deal with this pain. It has done wonders for me.

I make my own oil ( simple) and use it in a brownie mix. One brownie before bed. Life has changed for the better. Cannibus is legal here in Canada but I was making them before.
