I'm decluttering and have about ten scrapbooks full of embellishments, etc that are about 4 inches thick each. (12 X 12)--haven't scrapbooked in 15 years. I was wondering if anyone has transferred them to Shutterfly, etc. They don't have to be perfect. I could just take a photo of each page with my phone, upload to Shutterfly and they would be much "cleaner" looking, much thinner, wouldn't be falling apart at the spine, etc. I found www.thesprucecrafts.com/tips-for-taking-photos-of-scrapbooks-2961098 site but wondering if anyone has first hand experience at doing this. I'm usually on NSBR but thought I might get more response from GS. Thanks!

I haven't yet, but that's my long term plan. I'll be watching this thread for tips and advice.

I get the local photography shop to scan and copy my 12x12 calendar pages every year. Last year I had them copy all my oldest dgs’s pages into one book for him. For those projects I took home the loose pages and put the books together myself. For our Florida trip, I scrapped 75 pages and the shop made 4 photo books and gave me a stick with the pages on it.

I did. I took photos of two large scrapbooks to make a 12x12" photobook, 150 pages I think, through blurb. It allowed me to rearrange and combine a few albums I had made, add some writing and extra pictures, and also to print a couple of extra copies to send overseas to family who had never seen the pages.
It was expensive, but they usually have good coupon codes - make sure you get a discount if you use blurb!
The photos I took are really not the best. I used a tripod but couldn't get perfectly square and straight over the top of the page, and it's best to zoom a touch in to counter the lens distortion you can get, but I'm not sure I got that right. And my exposures weren't the most consistent - lighting is a big challenge. I always forget how bright I need photos to be to get good printing with blurb (and I couldn't afford to print a test copy). So in end I wasn't entirely happy with what I got. It was a huge amount of work. (I still have all the pages and photos but I couldn't face doing it again)
TBH I haven't looked at the book in a long time. I might take a look soon and see how I feel about it now.
Scanning might have been a better option, if I could've found aa place to handle 12x12" - especially because my pages were flat. It would've massively added to the cost though.
If you'll be OK with less than perfect results I'd say go for it. It does save a ton of space and, at least with blurb, you can reprint if something happened to your copy like a fire or flood (heaven forbid).

I use Forever.com. I am having them copy my scrapbooks into digital form. I have given access to my DDIL who is one of my scrapping buddies & who basically understands how it works. That way any of my kids/ grandkids can have copies.

However, I do want them as perfect as I can get them, so I will probably stick them to a wall, and use a camera on a tripod to get them as straight as possible. Unfortunately, that will take time, but not as much time as scanning and piecing each layout for digitizing.

Hadn't ever thought about it but I have a 12x12 scanner and I typically scan pages for my DD and GD. Never thought about books though...might be a fun project for family...

I did it with my son's wedding album. I made a scrapbook, then took it to a company who scanned it, and printed me 2 extra copies as photobooks. DS and DDiL have the original; her parents and I have the 2 copies. I can't remember how much it cost, but it was 8 years ago, and in Australia, so it probably wouldn't be any help anyway.

My cousin and I made a scrapbook for grandma for her 90th bday. When grandma died I scanned the pages using a large format flatbed scanner I have and created a book on Blurb, then gave the original to my cousin. I then had 8x8 (I think) copies made as gifts for the cousins who come to cousin weekend and my kids. I listed the book for sale on blurb for the rest of our cousins, aunts ans uncles to purchase as desired. I adjusted the profit margins to 0, so I wasn’t making money. Everyone who ordered one loved it, save one cousin who complained on fb that I priced it toonhigh (despite me explaining that I wasn’t making any money) and that she was unhappy with the content- which was grandma’s childhood, marriage and a hand written memory along with photos from each of her 11 kids. I mean, how can you be unhappy? She’s a pain.

This is my long term plan too. I'd like to have the option of reducing the space and allowing the kids to have the pages in a photobook so as to not take up too much space.

It is Plustek Optipro A320, I have had mine for many years, it as a gift from my DH. It's packed up so I don't have a pick but I'm sure if you google it will come up. Pros: easy to operate, Con: it has a huge footprint and needs space for the lid to open. But I love having it!

The specs say it does up to 11.69 inches do you notice it cutting off anything. That is pretty close to 12”.

I have a freind on SBC that is a prolific traveler and scrapper she and her hubby travel most days of the years she scraps them as fast as she can too. she mostly scraps travel but she does scrap her family too. so she has a massive amount of books too. she was a regular scrrapper like us but someone gave or showed her digital scrapping a couple years ago and she fell in love. so now she scraps her travels in digi.... she took all of her regular scrapbooks and had each page scanned and sent to shutterfly to make photo books for her. she gave the other regular books to the people that were in them. she has a 12 x 12 scanner now.. she has taken all of her reg travel books and scanned each page nd sent to shutterfly to make photobooks for her.

It can be a bit tricky if your layout is bulky with embellishments, not popped up photos, or layers etc., more like heavy charms or metals on several sections if that makes sense.
