In one week, I will be on my way to St. Louis! I’m excited and nervous.
BACKSTORY: I’ve been in Florida for 33 years. The last 26 years of those 33, I’ve been in Tampa. The last couple of years haven’t been good and last year was horrible. I’m at a temp job that I really don’t like and that doesn’t pay very well. I don’t have any friends here but my 24 yr old son is here. He goes to USF, he’s on the B level hockey team, works almost full time and is in the Army reserves. So I don’t get to see him often. Maybe every other month for a few hours. I’ve talked about getting a fresh start in another state for a couple of years. I have a great friend of about 12 years that lives in St. Louis. He has offered to let me stay with him for a few months until I can find a job and get back on my feet. After a few discussions with my ds, I’ve decided to go! I’m putting my furniture and stuff in storage here and I’ll come and get it when I’m ready to get my own place there.
Btw, when I was talking with my friend in St. Louis, it was 72 degrees here in Tampa and 17 there 😳

Wow! Buy a coat! It’s been freezing here.
What part of town will you be living? What kind of job are you after?
Welcome and good luck with the move! Melody

I bought a coat a couple of days ago. My “winter coat” here is a jean jacket! While I’m staying with my friend, I’ll be in the Layfette Square area. I’ve been in HR as a Generalist or Manager for 18 years. I want to get another job in HR

I hope you love it here! I have lived in various parts of the STL area for most of my life, and I love it.
Except for the weather. I don't like the weather. The only good thing about is that it changes often. LOL It's usually one extreme or the other. We often go from the AC to the furnace in a matter of a few days in the fall, and from the furnace to the AC just as quickly in the spring. You will probably feel right at home in the summer as it is downright steamy.
Lafayette Square is a great area, too.
Have you visited here before? There is lots to do, so you won't be bored for a while. LOL

There are so many pretty historic homes in that area! We don't live in/near STL, but we go there a couple of times a year for DD's dance competitions, and have done for 5 years or so now, so it's starting to feel pretty familiar. In fact, we just got back from there last night. They do up Mardi Gras like nobody's business (well, nobody but NOLA's I guess), and you'll be there in time to enjoy that. Welcome to the midwest!

That is exciting! I like St. Louis a lot. My husband is from there and I often tease about where we would live if we moved there. I think I would love a loft apartment overlooking the Mississippi river near Soulard market. It would horrify his relatives who prefer the exurbs and bucolic county towns. I would eat and shop in The Hill and rollerblade around the arch. On weekends I would try to figure out how to photograph the City Museum or explore historic stuff along the Mississippi river. All in all a good life.
By the way, I lived in Miami for one year to the day. I did not fit in at all, but I did love seeing aligators in the Everglades.

Yes I have visited my friend there a couple of times. I’m looking forward to exploring the city more.

Welcome! The Layfette Square area is nice and is close to downtown. Just be prepared for the cold, it’s been a long winter!

Congrats!!
My in laws are in STL, so I go there frequently. The cost of living is inexpensive and it seems that the job market isn’t bad either. Also relatively safe.
The one thing I don’t love about STL is that there isn’t a lot of diversity in the County, although that is changing a little. And people definitely know if you’re not from there and stare at you unabashedly for whatever reason. I’ve been going to STL since 2004, and that has not changed. People are nice; it’s just something weird I’ve noticed a lot.

Lafayette Square is one of my favorite areas in the city. It’s just a few blocks from Busch Stadium, and there are those Lime scooters all over the place, so you can ride one down to the stadium and watch the cardinals. It’s right by Soulard, a very fun part of town. If I were moving to the Lou I would seriously consider living by Lafayette Square.

She HATES Florida with a passion.. once her youngest graduates from high school... in 5 years or 6. she is back to Missouri.... She would literally leave this very instant if the kids were not a factor. We are Missouri people.. I lived in St. Louis twice.. but my heart is in Kansas City! I would move back too if I could.. Colorado to Missouri.. no one ever says that either!

Why? Wish you the best, really. I would never go back. I'm in Colorado now. I grew up in Omaha and I find our seasons so much milder in Colorado. I think part of it is the amount of humidity. Now today is pretty nippy and snowy, but it should be gone by Thursday. We got at least 6 inches of snow but our streets are pretty clear. In Omaha we always joked that the snow came for Halloween and left for Easter. I remember working at the mall and having the back part of the parking lot filled with snow and dirt.

My best friend lives there plus some family members, it would be closer to my mom (she is in Tulsa), cost of living is so much better BUT the humidity?? I don't know if I could deal with it although right now my dry skin is craving some good humid days.. lol. And not sure if I could get a good paying job.. After a four year search for a job to get what I have now, I am not willing to take a chance right now. Damn I wish I could win the lotto!
