I found this video on Pinterest about the woman from Young House Love's wardrobe. She looks cute, she's pleased with her system, and I should just move on, I know. But I have so many questions. How can you only have three pairs of shorts in the summer if that's what you usually wear and you only do laundry once a week? What if you garden and get a pair dirty, then cook and spill something, do you wear the other pair of shorts five times?
What do you think?

She clearly lives in a warm climate. I would need more shirts. Her shirts were basically black. I am always curious how people live like that, but she seems perfectly happy (and even a little smug) about what she doesn't have. She is lucky to have found a partner who likes living like that too.

Well if your clothes are all going to be the same color you might as well just have a couple. Sorry for the sarcasm but it’s as if suddenly everyone wants to be a minimalist. I enjoy having a variety of clothes to wear to different occasions and different colors for different moods. I enjoy not having a set day to do laundry or worry that I’m running out of clean this or that. I also enjoy having extra things in my pantry and freezer for that day I don’t feel like going to the supermarket.

I have a little bit more than she does, but really only a little. All my clothes fit into four dresser drawers and about 12 inches of closet space. She said she rewears her jeans twice, I do too. If I didn’t spill anything on them and they still look good, I will wear a pair of pants twice.

First off, I think she is very neat and tidy! I reaize that she probably cleaned right before she filmed but it doesn't appear that there would be much to make it messy anyway.
Secondly, I'm retired so my closet isn't much fuller than that and to be honest, I could make it smaller if I got rid of the rest of my "fancy" clothes that I had for my job. I have the room for them though and I do like the things I have kept so for now they stay.
I have a pair of pants and two shirts for messy days - painting, heavy duty gardening and the like - I just keep them in the drawer with my work out clothes.
One thing I have discovered since I reduced my clothes is that it takes a lot less to time to pack when we go away. Pretty much every thing goes in the suitcase, lol!

The only thing that made me blink was the three bras. That doesn't add up to a week's worth of bra usage to me!

Well, she has 4 pairs of shorts (she's wearing the 4th pair.) I wear bottoms 2-3 times in a week, so I get that. And the shorts are pretty short, so not much chance of spilling anything on them while cooking! But notice that she doesn't have any "work" clothes. No dress pants, dressier tops, etc. And she lived in NYC, probably in a really tiny studio apartment. If you are compulsively neat, don't like clutter, and are used to small spaces, I can get why this works for her. For me? NO. I like color, variety, and choices.
I'm surprised that she has the dresser with the non functioning drawer. With her personality, I would think she would get it fixed or replace it. Maybe it's a family piece?
But that dresser with all the artwork in it? Love that! What a great example of what a little paint can do to update and modernize a piece.

I definitely re-wear jeans and sweatshirts if they're clean -- and i only have 5 pairs (and one is white!) and I would probably be fine with three. But I also have three pairs of joggers and a boatload of leggings.
I have no idea why I'm so fascinated by someone else's wardrobe.

It had a lid on it. Now the dog looked unpackaged though.

I like to have color and choices in my clothing. It is intriguing to me that someone would have so few clothes. It would probably make getting dressed easier, though.

Size matters.
I have 4 pairs of pants but I am bigger than she is , so mine take up more room.
Buy a lot of clothing for my husband, because he is a tall-xlarge. Companies seem to have stop making talls or the fabric is crappy, so if I find 2/3 nice shirts I buy them. He is very tough on clothing and then he lets the parrot poke holes in them.
It really is okay to have stuff.

Somewhere I think she has a stash of all her other clothes...the ones that don't appear in the video.

She must not work out very often with so few workout clothes and only doing laundry once a week. I couldn't live with so few choices in my wardrobe but to each their own. I like much more variety than that.

I have several shorts, but only three are really in rotation. When I am at home I am wearing my “home” clothes, not the clothes I wear out and about. I wear business casual to work, so I am only in my jeans and shorts for a little while. My business casual clothes probably takes up 2/3rds of my closest. My weekend clothing is pretty minimal. I can’t wait till I retire and can reverse that! Lol!

I can't imagine owning so few articles of clothing. And only black shirts? Nope. LOL I am trying to pare down my clothing, but that is too pared down. I like color and variety. I think it may depend on where you live, too. I can't imagine going through the winter in the midwest with only one sweater. A jean jacket over a tank top would not cut it here. I live in sweaters and scarves.
I am kind of jealous of people who CAN have so little clothing though. Less laundry and more closet space would be real nice.

While I do have a bit more than she has, I don't have much clothing compared to the average person. I only have 2 pair of shorts (and live in Texas) and 1 pair of jeans. I don't garden so no need for "messy clothes". I will wear jeans 3-4 times before washing typically. Nicer pants I have one pair each of black, navy, gray and 1 tweedy pair. I have more tops than anything and lots of color/prints. Many years ago I adopted the "fewer clothes but better quality" method for my wardrobe and it works for me. Shoes were always my weakness, but I've scaled way back on those and probably only have about 20-25 pairs now, excluding boots. What had me laughing was her "giant fabric collection". I hate to tell her but she is a rank amateur! When she has a room full then we can talk!

I have never owned a dog like that. We have always had working dogs like Australian Shepherds or Border Collies or Blue Heelers or Jack Russels. They have food out at all times and never overeat. At least ours didn't.

Well her dog, that I am talking about in this thread, clearly isn’t like that because there is a whole bowl of food open in the closet and the dog is not interested in it.
