Hey everyone, it has become all the rage recently to have dies to take the guesswork out of making interactive cards - for example: slider cards, waterfall cards, box cards, wiper surprise etc. Personally, I really suck at measuring for more complicated cards that are anything more than a centre fold (yes, I am a one-trick pony) - and in the past 5 years, I have made just a couple of cards that are more complicated like a centre-step card and an easel card and even then got a bit frustrated & had to restart my cards a couple of times over. But then I wonder that even if I got any of the interactive dies, would I actually use them(?). I have watched videos about how to use them but I wonder whether they are so easy in real life - and by the time you do the various elements for that type of card, suddenly the card takes 5 times as long to make. There are some cards that I have seen like the Box cards that look really nice - plus they fold flat for posting so that's a bonus  I have also seen the animated motion cards where you pull a tab and the picture changes - Uchi's Design - the pictures are black and white and have vertical lines that give the illusion that, for eg: the butterfly is flying. I watched a You-Tube video about how to make the cards & it totally confused me & I know that I would never use them if I bought the products. I tend to make unfussy cards - some clean and simple and others that are have a few layers but certainly not complicated - but every so often, I want to break out of my bubble & make something a bit different or special but it has to not be so hard that I loathed the whole process. Have you bought any of these dies and are there particular ones that you would recommend or ones that you bought but fry your brain in the process so you tend not to use them? |

I got the Lawn Fawn box card die set after I tried making a box card with a score-board and with my ScanNCut. All of the methods are pretty fussy, but the dies aren't too bad, and I have made a few box cards for special occasions. It made for an impressive one of a kind card for my MIL's 80th birthday (with a big 80 and banners and flags and "floating" butterflies) and I made one with candles and presents for a special birthday card drive. I gave my friends little Halloween ones (partly die cut, partly done on the SNC) and they really loved them.
They are fussier than I can be bothered with most of the time though. I have to plan ahead to make one. But if I have all the extra bits ready and colored they aren't too bad, and they're impressive enough to be worth it for special cards. I think the more of them I make the less tricky I'll find the process of sticking all the bits down.
I generally prefer to make simple cards. I've seen some neat sliders and similar cool things like you mentioned, but I think I'd rather continue making my easy cards and being able to make more of them.

I have done interactive cards from scratch, as well as with dies.
In all honesty, I don't use the dies as much as I thought I would. They are nice to have, but I should use them more than I do.
I personally prefer a Silhouette compatible cutting file when I can find one. That's the easiest iMO.

I have done interactive cards from scratch, as well as with dies. In all honesty, I don't use the dies as much as I thought I would. They are nice to have, but I should use them more than I do. I personally prefer a Silhouette compatible cutting file when I can find one. That's the easiest iMO. Sometimes I can get caught up in the: "Oh, that's so cool - what a great idea & looks so much easier than making it from scratch" only to find that in practice, it doesn't get used overly much - which is why I have been pondering the question. It's like when you watch a gardening show and they renovate someone's terrible back garden in half an hour of TV time & it looks amazingly beautiful & seems so simple & they greatly encourage you by saying that it really is dead-easy - but you know that in real life, it doesn't work that way  |

You know, I was really considering ordering that new Lawn Fawn die for the picture-changing card. Then I realized that I would probably use it once or twice and lose interest. I just don't really make those kind of cards, and I don't think having the die would change that.
The closest thing to an interactive card that I make with any regularity is one to hold money or a gift card.

I've bought enough stuff to make interactive cards but I have yet to make one! I'm thinking that my Christmas card this year will be interactive, but by the time I start making them, who knows if that will happen! I think they are super cute and really unique but when I sit down to make a card, somehow it never ends up being too far from my comfort zone!

I've only made box cards, both from a die and from the Scor Pal tutorial for special occasions. I saw the motion ones, but don't really know anyone I would give them to so I didn't buy those. I made a slider card at an Expo class and they gave us the die, but I haven't used it (two years ago!)

I bought the LF box card die because I thought it was cute and different and could be used for so many things. I've only made a handful (3 or 4) of them.  For me having the die was easier than the cut file I bought for Silhouette. But I have the Portrait and had to make multiple cuts to get all the parts. I bought the LF reveal wheel. I thought the LF team did an awesome job with their designs. The set is really easy to use, but after making 20 Halloween cards and 10 or so ice cream cone cards I'm over it! LOL! And Yes! I'll probably be getting the LF picture changing card. I have an idea for it that I hope works! |

I have three of the lawn Fawn interactive card dies. I just received in the last couple months. I haven't sat down to play with them yet.
I have made slider cards before they were cool and dies were available .
It depends on your style whether or not interactive cards are for you.
I like building stuff paper wise. Paper piecing and fiddley stuff so I don't mind the work.
But I'm ok with creating something that has no intended purpose. I will create just to create.

I have a couple different interactive dies and just ordered the new Lawn Fawn Magic Picture and the older Magic Color Slider dies. I've used the box die to make several cards and find it's not much more work than making a regular card with a lot more impact. Can't wait to have the time to make more. I'm also looking forward to using the LF Magic Color Slider as it also looks pretty easy. I'm not a "cut and score" person so I need the dies.
All the cards I make are for donations and I figure the kids might get a big kick out of the interactive ones.

I love the idea of interactive cards but don’t have the patience to make them. I do easy and simple so I can make 2-10 of each design:)

I make quite a few interactive cards because I have a 5 year old niece who loves them. I have the LF magic picture changer die plus reveal wheel die and various sliding tracks. For box cards, which I also make, I use my Cameo.

Do pop-up cards count as interactive? I have bought and used a few sets of Karen Burniston's pop-up dies: a Christmas tree, a birthday cake, a flower pot. I also bought two that I haven't tried yet, but they're on my list for Christmas cards 2019.

I like the idea of some of these dies but with my limited time constraints, it is easier to go with what I know. And I just know that I would have to re-watch the videos to see how to use them & I couldn't be bothered. |

I make all types of interactive cards. I've been doing it since way before dies and such came out to make it easier. I am good with a ruler, craft knife, and bone folder and made pop-ups back in the 90's. my favorite interactive card maker is Karen Burniston. She also has a youtube channel that helps you figure out how to put things together. |

I'm glad interactive cards are making a comeback. I used to make lots of interactive cards. My favorite was the waterfall card, which is pretty easy once you get the measurements down. I remember when the exploding boxes were popular.
I purchased Lawn Fawn's Magic Picture Changer dies and I really love it (highly recommend this!). It's really easy to put together. I just put together a Easter card and it doesn't take much to make cards look appealing once you have an interactive element.
I also ordered Lawn Fawn's Slider Die and the Reveal Wheel. I haven't tested it out yet. Last year, I purchased Lawn Fawn's Shadow Box, I liked it but it's just a bit tricky to put together with all the small pieces.

Well........I made the front of the card to match the characters on the gift card. Thought the recipient would look at the front and when the gift card popped up, she would notice the gift card had similar characters. How cute, right? No! The gift card slipped out to the floor when she was looking at the front. Ugh!

I love interactive cards but they often take extra long to make. I have the reveal wheel, scallop Box Card, pivot pop up, magic picture changer, shadow box cards, mama elephant flip slider, all the pop ups from lawn fawn, and probably more as I think the lawn fawn tutorials are really helpful to use these.
