Just curious. My older sisters aren’t through menopaus at 55 . I’m 48 and missed cycle that had been every 28 days. Get cramps then nothing. February was very stressful. Not sure if peri has now started. Has anyone missed one cycle and then never had another? Pregnancy isn’t possible( tubal ligation)

I am about your age. I have missed cycles here and there over the last two years. Unfortunately, they always come back the next month. My Doctor says this is pretty normal… And that I have to go without a cycle for one whole year before she would say I am done forever.
But my doctor said that based on age only, you are definitely in perimenopause.

I'm 47. They started skipping about a year ago. I've also heard you have to have no periods for a year. A coworker came in to work all pissed one day as she was within days of it being a year and her period showed up.

I was 46 at first skipped cycle and 48 when I had gone a full year without one. It seems like it happened pretty quickly. My mom was in her 50s by the time she was done, so early menopause kind of caught me by surprise.

Are the health risks much greater if you are menopausal at 50 vs 53 or older? What’s considered “early” for natural menopause?

I skipped one cycle at 48. I’m now 51 with no real pattern or regularity, could be right on time, could be early, could be late until just a couple of months ago. I thought I was on my way to being done as I hadn’t had a cycle since early November until last week I had one day of bleeding 😳

I had my son at 36, and never had another cycle. I initially thought my breastfeeding was keeping it at bay, but even as he started weaning it didn't come back. I started chemo on his second birthday and had given up breastfeeding about 4 months earlier. After chemo my numbers hit the peri range and 4 months later my numbers were in the post range, by that time I hadn't had a cycle in almost 4 years, so they officially called it. I finished with most of the hot flashes and night sweats about age 53.

What’s considered “early” for natural menopause?Just going by memory when I went through menopause a few years ago, 50 is the average age, so anything within 5 years either side of that is considered average. Early menopause would be before age 45. A friend of mine had a baby when she was 42 and never had another period after he was born. She is the only person I know who didn't go through a few years of wondering if they were done. For me, I seemed to skip one every 3-4 months for a couple years, then went a few months without, going to a 6 month gap before finally going a year at 53. ETA It was about a five year process for me starting around age 47-48.

I have no idea when I started skipping periods. I never kept great track because since the birth of my girls, my periods were SUPER light and only lasted a day. I went 11 months without a period at age 52/53 but then had a period that lasted 2 days. I started the clock over again in Nov. 2018. So, here's to 3 months so far without a period. Here's hoping age 54 will be the end of it!

I’m 47 and haven’t had a period since about a month before my birthday 9 months ago ... before that one, I hadn’t had a period for about 6 months. The ones for the year previous to that were pretty awful. So I guess perimenopause began around 45, and if my luck holds, I will hit menopause at 48.

My first missed cycle was at 47. I just turned 49 and still in peri. Longest time was 105 days and the shortes was 20 - still completely variable and if it's been more than 60 days when I get my period it is awful. I can't leave the house for 2-3 days. I started getting my period when I was 10 and so ready for it to be over!

My cycles started getting irregular when I turned 47, they had been very regular before that.

47. I had a Mirena coil fitted at 48 and the bleeding has been wonky ever since. I'll be 50 in a couple of months.

Hi! I started peri-menopause at age 45 and it lasted 10 very challenging years. Having always been regular as clockwork on a 31 day cycle until then, my periods became closer and closer together and the heavy flow and debilitating cramps lasted for 3 days. At the end my periods were 23 days apart, I could barely function on days 2-3 due to pain and heavy flow. Day 1 was spent horizontal, reading or otherwise resting. I couldn't have done that if I'd had a job, obviously.
I didn't really have any missed periods before they stopped altogether when I was 55. It's been 3 glorious years!
I hope it's an easy transition for you!

I'm 48 and still like clockwork every 28 days. I had an ovary and fallopian tube removed last year and was warned that it could throw me in to menopause. My first period was almost 2 weeks late and I thought ok here we go. Then I went right back to being on time. I feel like a ticking time bomb though. I know it's just around the corner.

At 55 I skipped six months and then had it sooo heavy I went to see the doctor. He said that was normal and I could regulate it with birth control pills if I like. But I let mother nature rule. I think I had one more after that, not as bad. Stopped at 56 (I'm 60 now) and it is great - I can wear white pants any day I want and I don't get the carb craving, weepies or hypoglycemia like those days.

33 and we were finally at a place in life where I could try to get pregnant. I was completely post-menopausal by age 35. It wasn't the happiest time of my life.

I had what I thought was my last period the month I turned 50. Nothing for several months after that, then I had several periods that were quite regular. Then I skipped a few months, then a few months of periods. I have no idea how long this will go on for. I now know when my periods are going to stop for a while, that's when the hot flushes start. While I'm having periods I don't get any hot flushes.

I’m 51 and I’ve been done for several years. Five maybe. My children are adopted so maybe not having a baby shuts it down faster?

50 and still regular give or take a couple days. Periods have become very heavy and. I have to be well prepared :-( and there are days that I really can’t leave the house. I’m ready to get the show on the road.

In my 40's I began to have very heavy, "crime scene" periods. I never missed one. They still came every 28 days, but I didn't know what to expect with the heaviness of them. I'd pack extra clothes, pads, tampons........... and the cramping got much worse too, as did my migraines.
I had a full hysterectomy at age 52 and was still getting my periods. I had a fibroid that wound up being larger than my uterus!! I'm post menopause but still have horrible hot flashes so I'm on estrogen.
I'd check out your cycle with your ob/gyn to be sure everything's okay, but it could be the beginning of the mysterious cycles that many of us have had. I feel your pain!!

I'm 41 and starting to notice the hot flashes and my cycle is definitely changing. I used to be clockwork 28 days, 5 day cycle. Now its getting closer to 21 days and 2-3 day cycle. I'm wondering if this is the beginning things

I hope I'm getting close to the end of it. I had really heavy periods for a while, but now just random spotting for a week or so. My doctor says it's all within the realm of normal and no way to know it's finishing until it's over. I really wish perimenopause followed a more predictable process.

Before kid 1, at 37, I was 28 days. Between kid 1& 2 (at 42) I was 26 days. Before kid 2, I had an ectopic and lost one Fallopian tube. When I had kid 2, I got my remaining tube tied, After kid 2, I was 24-28 days. This past few months, I went 40 days followed by 12 days. I’m at 21 and counting right now. My OB ran thyroid and FSH just to see where I’m at. All came back normal. Annoying, let me tell ya! The only good thing is that they’re light and only last 4-6 days. I’m ready to be done,

I’m 51 and about two years ago these SUPER heavy periods took me by surprise! Those purple Always brand maxi pads are my go to on these days. In addition to a tampon. The first time it happened, I woke up to a horror scene. I told my husband it looked like I slaughtered a cow in bed! Since then I’ve brought out the waterproof pads I used to use in my daughter’s crib! 42 and it just straight STOPPED. I was already kind of small and lost some weight so thought it possibly because my BMI had slipped into the underweight category. Spent a few years having "personal summers", mostly at night. Age 45, the MOAP (mother of all periods) occurred and lasted about 8 days. It was like nothing I have ever had...won't go TMI but I was starting to be concerned about hemorrhage. That stopped and it's now been another 3 years with nothing.

Has anyone missed one cycle and then never had another? Pregnancy isn’t possible( tubal ligation) FWIW when I had my tubal the forms I signed had it bolded, highlighted in yellow and underlined that it was not 100% effective. I was 50 when I first missed one but I hadn't realized it so it might of been 2. Then I spotted for 2 weeks. Then I skipped again and then it returned for 2 days, then skipped a few, then spotting. Then it came back for 3 months in a row then poof I am now somewhere along 4 months without.
