Meanwhile, Barr just issued an executive order (can he do that? I didn't know) to allow ICE to hold asylum seekers indefinitely without bail. Basically if you cross illegally and ask for asylum, they're going to detain you ... forever. NY TimesBut why? Almost all of those that have applied for asylum show up for court. So what is the point beside punishment? Deterrence. This is how you’ll be treated – prolonged indefinite detention – if you seek asylum in the US, so don’t come here. ACLU already said they’ll be fighting this in court. Just like every Trump admin immigration policy or rule, it is unlikely this will prevail.

It think well over 95%. lizacreates as you mentioned the other day they can apply for asylum anywhere so that might be more beneficial for them all. Less crowded courts. All dependent on them knowing that they must apply right away where ever they are.

What bugs me the most is this: Pretty much every Trump supporter I know, and I know oodles of them, shouts from the rooftops how they don't care if those brown folks come here, just do it LEGALLY. Well, hells bells...everything Trump and his minions do makes it just about impossible for them TO do it legally.

All dependent on them knowing that they must apply right away where ever they are. It won’t result in less crowded courts because the granting of asylum is not a state function, it’s federal. It’s also of no help in this specific instance because the asylum-seekers, once through the initial credible fear interview at port of entry will be detained (per Barr’s order) in what I would assume will be the 200 or so federal facilities. Regardless, I don’t see this directive advancing. Trump already tried this last year and as I recall the court had blocked him from blanket detention. ETA: Immigration courts, btw, are not part of the Judicial branch; they’re part of the DOJ under the Executive branch.

"just do it legally" always brings to my minds eye a series of hoops to jump through and impossible barriers to cross- like an rigged to be impossible dog agility course. Legal, smegal. They don't want them here period. of other note: Their hypocrisy is showing.

I passed by a huge RV with an attached U-haul-like pod filled with Trump 2020 gear. There was a big banner on the outside of the RV that said, "Get your Trump Gear Here!" There was a frumpy looking woman arranging the $hit in there and I didn't see 1 person stop. Ha! I'm sure that she'll get the pro-Trumpers here to possibly purchase his 2020 shit, if they haven't bought it directly from the conman-in-office's website already. Wondering if she has permission to sell this (and if it's a stunt of his) or if she bought it and is reselling it. Hmm...........

Holy crap! Hypocrisy at its finest! Isn’t it amazing how they bagged and bagged on Obama ENDLESSLY for eight years like this, but when Trump actually takes every single one of these points 1,000 steps further it’s really no big deal, nothing to see here? All I have to say is WTAF?

The funny thing to me, in my weird mind, if trumpsters heard no, READ these words (they'd recognize their faux friends' voices) I'd bet they'd get all up in arms complaining it was trump bashing because they would assume it's about him.

Basically if you cross illegally and ask for asylum, they're going to detain you ... forever. NY TimesCorrection, it is not illegal to go yourself to the border to request asylum. In the text I read, Barr included those who are requesting asylum AT the border. Without crossing illegally. In other words they have not broken any laws yet. They are only AT the border asking for asylum

When he said he was going to dump people in cities all over, I made a large donation to each the ACLU and RAICES to allow them to help where they can. Of course large for me a senior citizen on a fixed income does not compare to millions, but I am sure more than he personally donated to anyone. I also had not forgotten previous disasters either.

Because the billions donated was mostly donated in large chunks by billionaires. Many Billionaires connect more with the grandeur of Notre Dame than with the masses. Because unconsciously they know they are billionaires on the backs of the masses, and if they lift them ( the masses ) up then who will they ( the billionaires ) stand on to appear superior? ( and yes, I know, that does not apply to all billionaires. Not even all (maybe any ) that donated but to some billionaires ) I’m in a pretty bitter mood today so take my comment with a grain of salt

When our homes burn down but everyone survives, we often say "it's just stuff" and "people are what's important". As a society we don't seem live up to those words. Maybe we just mean our inner circle are important. I don't know, but it makes me sad.
