Here is another example why I like these guys. Obviously it needs more work but, IMO, it has identified a lot of the challenges both workers and employers are facing. “Democrat Coalition Economic Opportunity Agenda”CLOSING THE SKILLS ANDOPPORTUNITY GAPS“The nature of work and the economy is changing. New jobs are being created, triggering a demand for tech skills across industries and disrupting and shrinking traditional middle-skill jobs. Technology matters more than ever. Many employers are unable to find enough qualified candidates to fill positions in emerging and growing industries. Key drivers of this disparity are both the skills gap and the opportunity gap. The New Democrat Coalition has identified several key challenges that are widening the skills and opportunities gaps. “KEY CHALLENGES WIDENING THE SKILLS AND OPPORTUNITIES GAPS” Workers in certain industries and segments of the workforce are more vulnerable to disruption from technology. Many businesses are having difficulty finding qualified workers. Existing models of education are not meeting the needs of modern students and workers. “PRINCIPLES FOR EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CHANGING ECONOMY”
Give every American access to the tools to succeed in the 21st century economy Remove obstacles for Americans to access middle-skill jobs and close the opportunity gap Create a culture of lifelong learning and make it easier for workers to invest in their future “POLICY ACTION PLAN TO GIVE AMERICANS THE TOOLS TO COMPETE IN THE CHANGING ECONOMY”
Give every American access to the tools to succeed in the 21st century economy • Provide students and workers with universal basic skills • Invest in STEM education and “ soft skills” • Provide work-based learning during high school • Invest in and modernize career training programs at the federal, state, and local levels • Reorient postsecondary education to prepare workers with career- ready skills; • Invest in apprenticeships Remove obstacles for Americans to access middle-skill jobs and close the opportunity gap • Expand competency-based hiring • Accelerate the deployment of nationally-recognized credentialing standards • Expand the pool of eligible workers: Provide a fresh start and value potential; Protect worker’s ability to earn; Enable access to work Create a culture of lifelong learning and make it easier for Americans to invest in their future • Reform federal worker dislocation programs • Make upskilling and going back to school easier • Incentivize employers to invest in worker upskilling • Provide more financial aid for education for students and workers • Support and encourage new ways to finance education • Make higher education more effective and accountable Pretty good. Still not sure I could get fully behind it. No blunt acknowledgement that climate change is the greatest crisis facing the country and all decisions must be filtered through addressing it. This was never meant be about climate change and was focused on the challenges facing the workforce today.

It's been 5 minutes, let's forget the spousal abuse. One thing leads me to another and another and here you go.............. Yeah, can’t really get more ‘southern’ than Minnesota that’s about the southern most you can possibly get. Well in alt-universe anyway. And WTF is it with all these loser racist dudes having to label women fat or ugly or whatever? Like, is that supposed to make them more attractive? To whom other racists? Deplorable indeed

Climate change the new “hot topic”. Everything must now resolve around climate change. I won’t be impressed until all this hoopla actually turns into real change.
There are two realities.
1. The fight against climate change should have started decades ago.
2. As important as the fight against climate change is, there are issues just as important that need to be dealt with as well. Issues that don’t necessarily have a lot to do with the fight against climate change. Like making sure people have the education, skills, and opportunity to have jobs that provide them with a living wage.
Not all jobs in this country will be considered “green” jobs. So what happens to those that don’t want to or can’t work in the category of jobs designated as “green” ? Are they to be ignored? Left to fend for themselves in this changing job market?

I don’t think you should be disappointed in yourself for that. There is absolutely no good in voting for the women candidates just because they are women. They should get your vote if they align with your stances on issues and you believe that they can do the best job running the country. If there is a man who can do a better job, vote for him! The best candidate should win the primary, independent of their gender. Honestly? I'll go even further. There is only one criteria that people should weigh in choosing the Democratic candidate: who can beat Trump? Who can win over Republicans who the Trump cult would call RINOs? That is the only thing that matters in 2020. I'm skeptical that any Dem candidate can win over moderate Republicans in 2020. We ran a centrist in 2016 and moderates "couldn't" vote for her and a lot of the liberal base stayed home because they weren't excited about the centrist. Yes, I'm bitter about that. I feel like calls to engage Republicans with another moderate is the right trying to make sure Trump wins again. I think we need to engage our liberal base, including minority voters and union workers who are traditionally Democratic. That's how Obama won. Not by pandering to Republicans.

But she was moderate enough, and could at least speak logical sentences. And no, your not supposed change what you are as a party to attract Republicans, but you should try to gather all the independents you can. A far left, out of touch candidate wont do that. And Trumps base are a lost cause, truth, reality and what’s good for them be damned they are on board with Trump no matter what. And it’s bizarre truly bizarre.

They've shown themselves too susceptible to the lies and innuendoes put out by right wing media, and will surely find they "can't" vote for our candidate based on Fox's thorough smear job, or because they heard Democrats want to allow post-term abortion, or because Dems are all in thrall to AOC and her coven of witches. I'd rather rely on the liberal base.

EPI RankingsI’m just so tired of trump’s lies... trump.. ”How is the Paris Environmental Accord working out for France? After 18 weeks of rioting by the Yellow Vest Protesters, I guess not so well! In the meantime, the United States has gone to the top of all lists on the Environment.” First, the Yellow Vest Protestors are not protesting about the Paris Environmental Accord. Second the United States has not gone to the top of all lists on the environment. According to the Environmental Performance Index for 2018, the United States sits at 27. Better then a lot but nothing to brag about. France is #2. From the EPI.. ”The 2018 EPI provides a quantitative basis for comparing, analyzing, and understanding environmental performance for 180 countries. We score and rank these countries on their environmental performance using the most recent year of data available as well as data from approximately a decade earlier. The state of the world is captured in the Global Scorecard. These results reveal current standings on a core set of environmental issues and identify where progress is or is not being made. The full results of the 2018 EPI, including country and indicator-level analysis, are available at epi.yale.edu. We highlight some of the most important results here in the report.”

PS I want to say I won’t vote for Bernie, I don’t want to, he’s so very far left to me, he’s sort of out of touch with real life. But let’s face it, he’s not the asshole Trump is. I KNOW I’m not voting for Trump. Unless it’s to vote him off the continent.

Should go along with dt's thoughts of merit raises..... Seems 535 members of the House and Senate are not doing too much down there.... Why a raise? I know I am not being nice, but there is lots to do in Washington to help getting things done! Lawmakers contemplate a tough political sell: Raising their payBY CRISTINA MARCOS - 03/16/19 12:37 PM EDT ** The House voted to create the select committee at the start of the new Congress in January to come up with recommendations for modernizing the legislative branch by the end of the year. The panel has been specifically tasked with developing recommendations on a variety of issues, including the congressional schedule, procedures, technology, and staff retention and compensation. Members of Congress have had their salaries frozen for a decade, after last receiving a pay adjustment in January 2009. Hoyer has called for a lawmaker pay raise in the past to keep up with the cost of living, arguing that it would help ensure that people who aren’t wealthy can serve in Congress. "The cost of rent, child care and other necessities has risen substantially in Washington and across the country in recent years, but members and staff pay and benefits have not kept pace with the private sector," Hoyer said this week. "If we want to attract a more diverse group of Americans to run for office and work on Capitol Hill, we need to make it possible for them to do so." ** thehill.com/homenews/house/434159-lawmakers-contemplate-a-tough-political-sell-raising-their-payThe costs of everything has gone up for the general public too.. The 1% got major tax cuts. Middle income, many not holding their own, some of their taxes went UP! Refunds are down. Low income gets lower! Speaker fees are good, get a second job. How about your spouses get second jobs? Live like we do!

linkI’m not a fan of AOC and I don’t watch Fox News. The Gallup Poll said that as more people are aware of her, her unfavorables go up. Obviously Republicans aren’t a fan, but neither are a Independents and us old folks. The only reason the unfavorable numbers matter is if she is seen as the new face of the Democratic Party, by others the. The others being left leaning independents and older Democrats. IMO Newsweek... “ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ SAYS FOX NEWS IS NOW 'AOC TMZ,’ BLAMES CONSERVATIVE NETWORK FOR UNFAVORABLE POLL”“Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Saturday called Fox News “AOC TMZ” and blamed the conservative network for her poor favorability rating in a new poll. A Gallup poll released Friday showed that more Americans, 41 percent, viewed her unfavorably than favorably (31 percent). Her unfavorably rating climbed up from 26 percent in September, while her favorability rating also increased from 24 percent, meaning her net favorability dropped from -2 percentage points to -10 percentage points. Ocasio-Cortez responded by tweeting that she has net favorable ratings from women, people ages 18 to 34 and people who are not white “If you want to know what subconscious bias looks like, it’s a headline saying ‘AOC is underwater with every group EXCEPT women, nonwhites, and 18-34 year olds,’” she tweeted. “So older, conservative white men are considered “everyone” and everyone else is discounted as an exception. Cool.” Ocasio-Cortez then placed part of the blame for her poor rating on Fox News, which has criticized her and her Democratic Socialist platform since her campaign days. “The reason people know more is bc Fox News has turned into ‘AOC TMZ’ (no offense to TMZ), so awareness is growing w/ GOPers,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “@janemayernyer has reported deeply on this propaganda machine + it will be aimed at any Dem they want. Nothing changes that. We can’t be scared by that.” Ocasio-Cortez’s unfavorabiity rose in large part due to Republicans — 73 percent in the latest poll, up from 21 points since September. Fox News has harshly scrutinized her progressive policies, including the Green New Deal aimed at combating both climate change and economic inequality. The conservative network criticized Ocasio-Cortez when she was a congresswoman-elect, for appearing to wear expensive clothing while saying she could not afford an apartment in Washington, D.C. Hosts on the morning show Fox & Friends mocked Ocasio-Cortez for having “expensive tastes” for a socialist.

Here's the code she's referring to: "(3) after submission of a report under paragraph (1) or (2) of this subsection and before the appropriate census date, if the Secretary finds new circumstances exist which necessitate that the subjects, types of information, or questions contained in reports so submitted be modified, a report containing the Secretary’s determination of the subjects, types of information, or questions as proposed to be modified." www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/13/141

If the older generation stays home or votes for Trump because the democratic nominee alienates them, then the election is lost yet again. I know plenty of the older generation that aren't Trump supporters who are still pissed about the last election. Ideally, they would vote for anybody but Trump, but in reality they might not. I believe this election is too important and we need not only not Trump, but a strong democrat that can appeal to many people. RBG is not going to live forever and if we miss this chance, the court will swing so far to the right that our country will be screwed. The more extreme a candidate is, the easier time the right will in vilifying the person. FWIW, I am not a fan of many in the running for the Democratic nomination and I would be hard pressed to be excited and campaign for them. I want someone who is liberal, but not so far to the left. You lose people like me when Sanders and a couple of the others come into the picture.

They could be as right as Gillibrand (aka what used to be a republican) or as left as Bernie (neither of whom I care for btw). Whether they have an "easy" job or not depends on how much the American people want to listen, learn and use EVIDENCE vs BELIEFS in their voting.

linkNewsweek... “WHICH MILITARY PROJECTS ARE AFFECTED BY TRUMP EMERGENCY DECLARATION: SENATOR SAYS WHITE HOUSE IS DELIBERATELY HIDING INFORMATION”From the article.. With President Donald Trump's veto of a congressional resolution to scuttle emergency funding for the president's promised wall along the border with Mexico, the focus now turns to the question of where the White House will get the funds. Because congress has not appropriated sufficient money for Trump to erect the wall, the emergency declaration can only take funds from existing military construction projects. However, the White House has not yet specified which projects would see their budgets cut to pay for the wall. Last week, acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee and declined senators' request for a list of affected military projects.
Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia was one of the lawmakers to press Shanahan on the issue. Appearing Sunday morning on CBS' Face the Nation, Kaine accused the Trump administration of deliberately holding this information back.
"If you're going to ransack the Pentagon's budget, tell me which projects cut, or delay, or eliminate," said Kaine, quoting an earlier letter he had sent to the Trump administration. "They wouldn't provide an answer."

Kaine also felt that dt is holding out on the list until after the override vote on the national emergency bill. He think that the GOP members might vote differently IF they find out tht military bases in their states will lose funding, projects, housing etc........

As a left-leaning independent voter, the more I see Democrats adopt a position like Merge's, the more inclined I am to vote third-party or not vote at all. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm not willing to trade one extreme for another. I loathe Trump and the current iteration of the GOP; my vote is the Democrats' vote to lose, and this "damn the moderates" attitude is doing it.

I loathe Trump and the current iteration of the GOP; my vote is the Democrats' vote to lose, and this "damn the moderates" attitude is doing it. Bye bye, don’t let the door hit you and your vote on the way out. While you claim you hate trump, it’s clear you and others do not understand the damage trump is doing to the foundation of this country. The issue is not extreme lefty vs extreme righty, but the corruption that surrounds trump and those around him. The steps they are taking to protect themselves and they don’t care what they destroy in the process. To trump and the others, the Constitution is just a piece of paper they wipe their collective asses with. The question that should be asked, even if the Democrats chose Sanders as their nominee, would he be as petty and vindictive as trump? Would he be as corrupt? Tell the lies, lies, lies and more lies he tells every single day? The answer is no. I’m not a fan of Sander’s vision of America, but basically he is an honest person. People forget that there will still be Republicans in Congress who will work very hard to mitigate Sanders’ lefty agenda. And the answer would be no for any of the Democrats that are running for President. It would be nice if, for this election, the Democrats would settle on a message that would be seen as something that can be accomplished and actually help the masses. But the reality is, the vote is about getting that festering cancer out of the White House. If we do, then we can go back debating issues in the next election. If we don’t, then maybe this country deserves trump and his destructive ways.
