Beautiful photos - and weather! Did you visit the McDonald Observatory? DH is wanting to take a trip out there for that (he's seen BBNP). I'm not thrilled with the prospect of that drive. If only Southwest flew close to BBNP!

If only Southwest flew close to BBNP! Sadly, we didn't get up to the observatory this trip. We had tickets for Wednesday night, but canceled because of a high wind advisory with gusts up to 70 mph. 😳 I don't love the drive, either, but it is what it is! We figured we weren't saving much time flying into El Paso or Midland when you account for having to get to the airport early, deal with baggage and rental car, etc.

Love that park. We’ve been several times in the spring back in the 80’s. Backpacked once and it was totally secluded. Your photos brought back nice memories!

It's on DH's and my list of vacation spots. Just need to get the time as it is a long drive (over 600 miles). I'd like to go in the spring so maybe next year. TFS the photos!

I went with my DD's girl scout troop the week of Thanksgiving. It was AWESOME! So wide, wild, remote, and nothing short of spectacular.

Boo Hoo! THIS was going to be THE YEAR that we finally made it to Big Bend. Had reservations, plans etc..........and then DH broke his foot and cannot put any weight on it for another 2 weeks. So no trip for us. The bluebonnets were supposed to be fantastic this year. (photos in this article are stunning) from Big Bend Bluebonnet Alert! Unfortunately they were mostly in places where I couldn't stop and take a photo, but there were whole fields full of them in addition to the usual roadside blooms.

I love the photo with the mountain laurel in bloom. So nice to see one in the wild. They are one of my favorites and I have one in my front yard. If you get close to them they smell like grape Koolaid.

Love Big Bend! We've been there several times, took the horseback ride to the rim, walked across the river for a true Mexian meal, and visited the canyon where the falcons nest. Once went with a college geology field trip and learned a lot about the geologicl features in the area. That same trip, the whole desert was in bloom and I got sick as a dog, but will always remember the scenes of the bluebonnets. They are a lot bigger in the desert out there than they are along the roads in Central Texas.

It is one of the most beautiful places in the US. I love this area. The sunsets and sunrises are absolutely stunning! I go to the big chili cook there every few years. My mom is a champion chili cooker and goes every year.

I love the BBNP too! If you're in the area be sure to make a visit to Big Bend Ranch SP. We camped for three days at a drive up (4WD) campsite for three days and didn't see anyone else. They do have some campsites that don't require high clearance. Also, you check-in at Ft. Leaton (or Banrock) which are both interesting.

I honestly didn't know much about the sw area of Texas until I watched a drv'd episode of Anthony Bourdains show recently. What a beautiful area of our country! Your photos are wonderful.
