Just curious what the going rate is around the country.
Kids here go from $350-$3300 with freshmen usually doubled up for between $400 and $500.
ETA: People bid for 8 hours of work from the kids or they can donate the work back to the school

I don’t really know what you’re asking... but I’d probably ask more than that for my kid. I’ve put a lot of money into him and he’s a sophomore. I’d want to at least make a good return on my time and investment. 😂

There are days I would sell mine for a nickel. I know FFA is Future Farmers of America, but I am stumped on why they sell kids.

Kids = baby goats.
And I've not a clue what the going rate is, if that is what's being discussed?

The FFA and 4H groups are very active in my area. Never heard of auctioning off the kids though.

We just did that this year at our crab feed for the first time. It was 650 for 8 hours work from the officer team. My son was a bit ticked because this wasn’t discussed with the officer team and the teachers that they were putting the kids up for auction. They found out that night. The team is 5 students.

Parents and kids have to agree. Both sign a form. DS did not want to participate, so he did not. That is fine with the school as well.

Anywhere from $75 to $400, with the average bid around $150.

I need to see if the one in my area does this. I would pay someone to help me get my garden ready this spring.

Well, that all depends on wether it’s corn fed, grass fed, or free range. Kids = goats free range is a higher rate ( or it was in 1980 last time I sold one. ) Kids = children for hire then free range might be less or might be more. One would have to assess the parents before deciding. If free range meant that they taught thier kids to be self sufficient & get stuff done it would be a higher rate. If free range meant being lazy & hoping your kid survived then I’d want to pay a lower rate.

They do this up here. Depends on how many are auctioned together, but usually a 2 person team (the minimal) is $250 for 4 hours. I've seen where the Officer team (5 people) will go upwards of $3000. Typically a company or large farm will buy the team and have them busy doing several different projects.

Wait, I am still confused. Are we talking about goats or humans? Freshman goats?

For those prices, those kids better not be on their phones while they are working. Except for break times, of course.

Wait, I am still confused. Are we talking about goats or humans? Freshman goats? I am confused, too, and glad to see it cleared up. I have nothing to add because I've never heard of an auction like this but do think it would be a great way to get a spring yard cleanup done in a weekend.
