We have never had pets, so not really. But dh does have a million outdoor plants and gardens. When we hire someone we only give them the garage door opener and lock the door into the house. So they can still water all the plants and place the mail and packages in the garage.
ETA: The one time we did have a pet, a fish. Son's friend did the job, overfed the fish like 4X the amount needed and killed it. Poor son was so sad and friend was so so sad!

No because I’ve never been able to get a personal recommendation for one. Unless I absolutely know someone is reliable I just wouldn’t want them in my house.

We’ve never used a “house sitter”. But in the last year we’ve had my coworker come feed my cat while we’re gone. I trust her with my life. I have zero worries she would do anything wrong in my house. Hell, she’s the one who makes out my paycheck, she knows everything about me lol. But she doesn’t have to do anything when she comes over except feed my cat.

My sister had a house sitter - a woman who was "recommended" by my sister's hair dresser (who is also her friend). This woman needs a place to stay "between" her residences and the timing lined up with my sister's absence. The sitter sent text message during my sister's absence wanting to extend her house sitting. My sister said that wouldn't be possible. Upon my sister's arrival home, the woman was STILL THERE. My sister had to force her out with the sitter having a "hissy" fit the whole time. Upon cleaning her home, my sister discovered: The sitter had apparently "moved in" -- she had a ton of clothing, art etc all in and around my sister's home The sitter had drunk EVERY DROP of liquor in the house The sitter used my sister's hairbrush The sitter didn't steal - but wouldn't come and get her stuff from my sister's house. Finally, my sister named a time and date, moved everything left by the sitter to the curb and locked her outer most gates.
What a piece of work. The hairdresser later apologized not knowing at the time of the recommendation what a total nut bag the sitter was.

We have a 19 yr old that is still living at home, so right now our house sitter is live in
Other then her, we've only had one of my long time friends stop in and take care of our dogs a couple of times. She didn't stay overnight, but she did spend a lot of time with the dogs. They are her god dogs
I guess we have had our ds and his gf stay once too She said she saw our ghost at night.

We did once. When we got married. One of our friends couldn’t go (we got married in Jamaica). So she stayed at our house. It was closer to work for her than her own house. Her boyfriend came over and put up a ceiling fan for us, which was a wedding gift. It was so nice.

Our son stays at the house. He used to take pets and house watch. He won’t stay. He was always in demand. Pets like him.
Our daughter gets jobs through rover. Talk about bad pet owners. She took care of one dog that knock her phone off the counter and then chewed it to pieces. The fing owners didn’t tip her or pay her for the phone..... $$$ out the window. Another owner neglected to tell her the puppy was in a chewing phase. She lost shoes, because she could wear shoes in the house, her backpack, and a purse. Again no tip or offer to replace the chewed stuff. Neither owner can hire through rover again.
