Has anyone taken Macrobid for a UTI early in their pregnancy?
I was prescribed this but the pharmacists noted that although it is Cat B it says it's safest in the second trimester. Now I'm all freaked out and of course Google makes it worse.
I trust my OB but I can't shake the comments from the pharmacist.

Pharmacists sometimes over step their bounds. Category B is about as safe as anything gets in pregnancy, period.
All medication is safer in the second trimester than the first simply because of embryological development. Everything is risk vs benefit. Don't treat the UTI, and you end up with pyelonephritis. A kidney infection can have grave consequences in pregnancy.
And perhaps the pharmacist should have been able to discuss why macrobid is a good choice. Unlike many other antibiotics, it is concentrated in the urinary tract. That means less or very little in the blood stream so risk of getting to the developing baby is negligible. Perhaps that is not in the pharmacist's wheelhouse and if it isn't, they shouldn't be having this discussion with you at all.

Yes, I had to take it frequently when I was young and that included a course while pregnant with DD. It was in the first trimester. She's a happy healthy 24 year old now. I also had to treat a yeast infection and a staph infection. My immune system was kind of weak during my first trimester.
