I recently updated PSE to the most recent version, and I also just got a new iMac last week. I am trying to get my photos and digital scrapbooking catalogues over to my new computer. I used the Migration Assistant last night to transfer files and applications, etc. from my MacBook to my iMac and so far it seems to have worked well, but for some reason my digital scrapbooking catalogue, which contains 20,000+ files, didn't transfer. Can someone point me in the direction of where that catalogue is stored... I have everything backed up but I don't know where to look for the catalogue file. As a bit of backup, when I upgraded to the most recent version of PSE, for some reason I couldn't covert the old catalogue either. I had to import and re-tag everything... and I really don't want to have to do it again! It brought in all of my photos (which is a separate catalogue) without any problem, but for some reason the digital stuff didn't get transferred... any ideas?

This is hard to say because it depends on how you set up your old computer. Elements never stored anything for me in a specific place — I set up my own folder.
Do you remember the name of any of the files or keywords in your scrapbook catalog that you could search via Spotlight and then follow the path?

The funny thing is that I backed up both catalogues on my laptop about a month or so ago and initially I tried to use the back-up on my iMac. It said both catalogues were restored successfully, but when I went into them, there was nothing there. That was when I discovered the Migration Assistant. It seems to have worked for my photo catalogue but after trying it twice with the digital scrapping stuff, it's not working. I will still be using my laptop so I'll try backing it up again and see what happens. I don't keep the files stored on my laptop because I don't have the space so I've been using an external hard drive. I know exactly where everything is but it's just not cooperating! To tell you the truth, I should have never upgraded to this version of PSE. I was using 13 before and never had any problems. I should have left well enough alone!!!

So are all of the digital files on your external hard drive? Could you not just copy those over? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding! I am using PSE 14 and it hasn't given me any trouble. Sorry it's been a pain.

Sorry it's been a pain. Yes, they are all on my EHD but the problem is that if I choose to import them again, most of the keyword tags that I have painstakingly added don't transfer because you can't save "metadata" to png files (which are the majority of digital elements). So I would have to start over with the keyword tagging and that will literally take HOURS. When I used the Migration Assistant last night, thankfully the catalogue I have for my photos transferred to my new computer along with all the keyword tags, but the one for digi scrapping did not.

Thank you anniefb! I actually spent a good deal of time last night searching and found the file I was looking for on my laptop. I managed to transfer it over using Airdrop, which is really new to me and a totally cool feature, and my digi scrapping catalogue is back! Whew! I can't tell you how happy this makes me. As much as I am loving this new iMac of mine, I'm telling you that getting everything transferred over so I can work on it is proving to be a very time consuming task!! Thanks for sharing those links! I'm eager to read the articles on my way home tonight to see if there is any other information in there that I should make a note of!

So glad you found the file streetscrapper. I know what you mean about transferring stuff over. I'm not looking forward to the day when I need to replace my MacBook Pro and need to do that again!
