Hey everyone!
So I have a 3 day crop this weekend and I'm not feeling very motivated to get some stuff together for it. I think my problem is I have such a huge list of things I would like to do and a huge list of things I need to do and the things I need to do aren't really fun but I think I'd feel better getting them done.
Want to do LO kits I have made up but not put together Embellishment clusters I've seen so many cute diy videos and IG posts A matchbook flip book or a tag flip book again inspired by IG and YT I bought a bible journal almost 2 yrs ago and it remains untouched I have a ton of Christmas Market items I'd like to make up as well so I'm not scrambling in October and November A bunch of AE dies I bought in November that I'd like to cut samples of so I can do a video and share my haul.
Need to do Easter favors for GD class UFO things such as tons of layouts missing journaling/dates Tons of layouts totally finished but missing photos A bunch of layouts I did at a use your own product class that are complete but to me need a bit of jazzing up with some embellishments
Things I really need to do but never seem to do at home: Continue organizing my digital photos as they are a huge mess Continue scanning my pre digital photos for my kids PL type albums I started for each Put the stacks of photos I have scanned and printed in their albums Start adding the PL cards to the pages
I think I feel overwhelmed by it all and it's too many choices for my ADD brain. Part of it too is I haven't really done a ton of creating in the past 2 yrs other then some kits I bought or classes I took at Crop and Create last yr and some favors I've made for my GD for Valentine's and Halloween and those are a repetitive type thing.
I don't have enough LO kits made up and the other want list items it seems like a lot of packing for it.
Also I think the need list is kind of boring and I think I have it in my head that I'm wasting a retreat by doing those things and I think when I see others doing fun things I'll be wishing I was.
I'm probably totally overthinking this LOL just wondering if anyone else ever struggles with what to work on at retreats?

3-day crop - so part-day Fri, full-day Sat, and part-day Sun?
Can you pack 3-4 smaller projects?
Maybe pick something from the Want list that can be accomplished on Friday?
Then pick 2 projects for Saturday -maybe a want and need?
And something to do on Sunday if you finish the rest?
Myself? I would probably choose based on how much 'stuff' was required and choose the projects that are more self-contained and/or I was most excited to work on

Yes it starts at 4 Friday and goes until 3 on Sunday. I'm a night owl so I'm up to at least 2 a.m. both Friday and Saturday. I'm with you on picking projects that require the least amount of packing I think that is a big blocker for me to get my crap together LOL. I have another 3 day event at the end of April called Crop and Create but at that one I will be doing classes all weekend so I won't be at my table much and I can work on finishing up classes at that one. The following weekend I have a 3 day retreat so I have another opportunity to get stuff on that list done. I think my first task is I'm going to grab the layouts that just need photos and try to find some photos for them tonight while watching YT on my TV. I can send them to Costco thru the website and pick them up Friday. If like to get those done before C and C as I will be doing several layout classes there and I may not have photos ahead of time for the classes

I usually find if I just go into my scrap room and sit, I typically start working. But I give myself permission, if I still don't feel like it after a few minutes, it's okay to not. 95% of the time just going in there makes me want to play with all my pretty things. As for you crop, I'm another vote to do the fun/want side of the list. Life is short. Scrapping should be fun.

Sometimes I break it down into time segments. What can I do Friday? Then when I’m done with it on Friday, I can put it away and be happy something is done! Then Saturday being your longest time, choose the biggest project, or break the day in half. Sunday’s for me seem rushed, so I like to have out the least amount of things or to be wrapping up a project.

I would mix it up as well between the Want & Need To Do lists. The Easter favors would be first for me. Easter is coming up soon and I would want to get it knocked out instead of doing it at home at the last minute. I would also do some of the the Christmas Market projects.

I'm ADD, too.
Your list is far too overwhelming and ambitious. That list would absolutely paralyze me.
Pick pictures that you are excited about getting into an album. Put together a kit and choose whatever tools you'll need for those pictures. Repeat with another set of pictures. Repeat with additional kits for as many pages as you can realistically do, plus 2 extra.
Maybe add ONE other project from your "want" list that sounds like something you would enjoy. For me it would be the embellishment cluster materials and/or the tag book. Keep it fun. You want to enjoy the retreat. Don't take so much that you're going to kill your back hauling it all there. Keep it as simple as you can, still be productive, and want to go again in the future.

I do that too but lately it seems when I go in my Scrap room I either start organizing something or just sit there and look at all my pretty things LOL! I agree in what I should do for the crop TY!

Yes I'm for sure going to do the Easter favors I find it's a good 1st project to do as it is repetitive and gets my mojo going! I might do a easy Christmas Market item too one that doesn't require a ton of stuff to pack. There is no store there so I need to make sure I bring everything needed for it.

I have 8 or 10 LO kits prepped and I'm leaning towards the matchbook as I think the clusters will require more packing of dies/ punches and little doodads. I totally agree on being inspired by the photos!!

Me too and when I pack the random stuff I never get anything accomplished. If I bring layout kits or a specific project like a favor or card set I'm usually more productive. Same with if I throw random stuff in at the end before I leave for a crop, that shit never gets looked at when I'm at the crop LOL

For a 3 day crop I usually pack everything but the kitchen sink, so my input is more advice to myself than to you.
Take something that can be finished quickly and easily the first night. There are so many distractions as you set up, get used to the space, meet everyone as they are coming in, break for a meal,... Sounds like your Easter favors may be perfect for this.
If you think you want mixed media on your projects, maybe do some of that at home before you go. Doesn't take a lot of planning. You can get some fun results, and when you need it at the crop it is all dry and ready to go. And you don't need to pack the wet stuff or wait for it to dry when you are there.
Take a bigger project that you can keep coming back to over the weekend. If you can choose to scrap a theme like birthdays, or travel, or vacation, then you can pack most of your stuff in relation to that theme. I don't do page kits, but I have Iris cases of themed items--say SCHOOL--with pp, diecuts, embellishments inside--so I can just grab and go.
Tools are heavy and hard to move in and out of the venue. Find out if they will have machines there that you can use so you don't need to lug your own. Or do your diecutting before you leave: another kind of mindless thing you can do while you think about what you will be doing at the crop.
Don't stress about the packing. If you live near the venue you can always run home in the middle to grab stuff. I know I usually need some time to decompress after being in a room with a bunch of people for hours on end, and going home to get something is a wonderful excuse.
And I agree: take something FUN to do!

I was just in the same situation, except just for a 12 hr crop. I had time 2 weeks before for planning and prep, but had trouble focusing. Same thing, projects I want to do, projects I want to complete, things I feel I should have scrapped already, etc.
As it was getting closer I thought to myself "what will make me happy with from the day to feel accomplished?" I decided on 10 layouts. I knew I would not get them all complete, but I started about focusing on what those would be. Some were catch up ones, some were new fresher ideas I had recently. I then focused on getting those kits together.
I always take some mundane tasks like stamping, coloring, etc with me just in case I have trouble being motivated.
I actually start with my most complicated layout/s. I wanted to use a outline name cut from silhouette then fill in the spaces with different pp, so I precut the names the night before crop and gathered all the pp. So the first 2 hrs of crop I worked on these 2 layouts, fussy cutting stuff for the background. I loved how they came out and then i was in the zone.
I was able to get 10 layouts mostly done with background and photos, just some journaling and embellishing to add. As much as I try to plan for the journaling, like saving on my phone or whatever, I can never seem to execute it at the crop.
I think some of it is just being realistic with where you are at and how you work. I would try to focus on what makes you feel best when you come back from a crop and start there. Are you going to be happy with completed projects or more happy that you tried something new? Then plan accordingly. And always have a little backup just in case.
