As the mom of a teen boy, I won't be buying anything from the EP Teen Spirit collection. IMHO both lines are too retro & stereotypical in themes & color schemes. Wish the manufacturers would create a versatile paper line with a modern, sophisticated, & gender-neutral color palette reflective of today's teens/young adults in classic/usable patterns (e.g. plaids, stripes, dots) & "themed"/non-clipart/image papers (e.g. soft florals, bold graphics, earthy watercolors, preppy), plus embellishments - generic (e.g. basic alpha in grey) & themed (e.g. separate sheets of word phrase or image stickers for academics & various activities - e.g. sports, band, drama, clubs, prom/dances, socializing, driving, volunteering, job). End users could then decide which supplies to combine & reflect the subject of their pages/projects.

I have seen the colors and the themes on these collections before, even a decade ago. I can't recall the names of the collections but I believe at least one boy line was Little Yellow Bicycle. Yes, it looks like that Jillibean line and that looked tired when I saw it except for the colors. I have all kinds of paper with Converse style high tops on them, nothing remotely new there.
That boy collection would work well for someone who was a teen in the 70's or 80's, like if you are scrapping your own photos.
I know that people who don't keep a huge stash may be excited by a release that seems new, but it isn't new at all. I agree that girl collection is for a preteen girl or at most a 13 year old who still likes her dolls.
Love Echo Park, not these lines, but can see myself buying them at Tuesday morning just to add them to my stash.

The only thing that I am confused about is the cassette tape in the boys line. My kids have no idea what cassette tapes are and I assume most teens don't know what they are, either? Cassette mixed tapes are a big part of Guardians of the Galaxy. I still don't think they are a universal symbol of teens today.

The manufacturer is catering to the scrapper, not the kids in the photo. Speaking of smart phone images. Mo Manning (Digital Pencil) has a a great teenage girl digital stamp of a girl on her smart phone. Thanks for sharing that! Those are the kinds of images I can use. I'm on their website marveling at all the cool images I can choose from. For our school auction a few years ago they had an 80’s theme and they had cassette tapes as “tickets” for the parents to buy. One kid brought one to me and asked me how to play it becuase she couldn’t figure out what to push. Keep in mind, this was just the cassette! She kept trying to find a button on the tape. That's so funny! omg. I love it. I think cassette tapes have an interesting shape and form that make designers drawn to them, where records are just circles... although they could be partial circles peeking out of squares... or they could do something with turntables, which have a broader interest and some interesting shape opportunities. That boy collection would work well for someone who was a teen in the 70's or 80's, like if you are scrapping your own photos. I would assume that they're selling to moms who have nostalgia for their teens, but the vast majority have thousands more photos of their teenagers than of themselves as teenagers (thanks to digital photos) so I feel like they're really selling on the basis of what people like rather than what they're likely to actually use, which kind of annoys me. I also think it backfires in the end because you only impulse buy based on nostalgia once but if you can use up papers because they work with your photos you might come back for more. I agree with everyone about less gendering and more useful words based on teens actual lives. I'd love to hear what kind of discussions and analysis go into these choices. Maybe those who want less gendering really are in thee minority, but these days with niche marketing and all that jazz can't they make more targeted collections that people will seek out. Sure maybe the average big box shopper wants pink and girly but aren't there enough people shopping online looking for something else. Do we all need to start typing non-gendered search requests into websites to show demand? ETA: sorry all my quotes got out of order... sigh. I can't fix it. hopefully it's clear which replies are for which comments.

Okay, I take back my comment about the teen girl line. I forgot my daughter has a thing for unicorns. I might get that paper, but since they are in an abundance right now, it doesn't have to be this one.
FYI, it is National Unicorn day on April 9! My grocery store had a cute display.

Cassette mixed tapes are a big part of Guardians of the Galaxy. I still don't think they are a universal symbol of teens today. I love the peas! Now I need one of those. I also need to get some racoon paper for a trash panda page.

My brother and his family came over on Sunday and my 11 year old nephew made this with his legos. The yellow things are "cassette" tapes. They actually fit in the little door on the front. As far as we know, he has never seen a boom box, so not sure how he knew how to make it. Hm, now I want that cassette paper. lol

I like them both, but would have to be used for pictures of my DS 16 and DD 15 when they where younger, not for any current pictures! I have no problem finding paper to scrapbook DD cause there are plenty of great floral and more grownupish looking paper for her I can use, but for him it's way harder.
I wish someone would come out with a line similar to AC's Chap line they released years ago! I loved that line and it was perfect for my then oldest teen DS.

I really like the boy line, except for the paper with words. Slang words become dated so quickly- I haven't heard a teen use "rad" in years and I teach teenagers. Those papers look like an out of touch mom designed them. A lot of the other papers are good, though, and I really like the colors. I don't have a problem with the more retro stuff as far as images, just not words. I actually used a cassette paper (not from this line) on a page about my nephew.
I agree with everyone on the girl line- too childish. They need to make a teen line that isn't divided into "boy" and "girl". Both genders like sports, video games, music, etc. It is absolutely possible to use a girl page that doesn't have pink. I've also managed to sneak some pink on some of my boy pages, so I just hate the gender stereotypes.
I guarantee I'll buy the boy line, though.

They need to stop w/the "boy" and "girl" bs. Just make a few color choices (preferably not pink! - have they met teen women!?!?!??) like one blue/orange and one green/yellow (or something like that) or one neutrals . UGH!!!
