Pete Buttigieg is on Ellen today and I have to say - I am really impressed. I don't know much about him other than what he's putting out there now that he is about to announce his candidacy (which I thought he already had done?). But what I am hearing, I am liking. And I really like his husband.
SO - are there a bunch of skeletons in his closet that I am not just aware about? Is he really as loved as a Mayor as it sounds?
I guess I want to hear the good and bad. Anyone have any experience of living under him?
I am about to head out to a track meet but I am anxious to read everyone's thoughts.

I like him and think he has a lot of potential, but he’s under 40. I’d prefer a presidential candidate to be a little older. More seasoned.
Although of course if he’s the candidate, I will vote for him.

He's pretty popular in South Bend, unlike the rest of our home grown political types (ahem...I'm looking at you. Mike Pence, Mitch Daniel's, etc). I don't live in SB, but I teach there, and without exception when I ask, people say he is down to earth, earnest and whip smart. A few say he's not as liberal as they'd like or that he has focused on tourism and downtown more than neighborhoods with the most critical need, but overall he is very well respected. I'm impressed too.
We can and have done worse.

What I've read I like. Currently he is my favorite though it is still early. Like lucyg said, he is a bit young. I'm not sure he could withstand Trump's trash in the general although lately he has been taking on Pence.

I like him so far too and I'm tired of retirement age Presidents - some new blood would be nice.
That said - I don't get to vote in the primaries and I'll vote for whoever isn't Trump in the General Election

He seems to be a remarkable young man with a charming husband. Rhodes Scholar, served in Aphghanastan (SP), concert pianist. I do like him.O just don't know if this is his time running against dt. We know the Evangelical would not vote for him, too many extreme Christians would not vote for him. I have said that he Democrats had better get their act together ALL of them. They are risking our democracy!

I like Pete, but I don't think the country is ready for a LGBTQI president. Then again, I didn't think the country was ready for a Black president, either. I will vote for whomever the Democrats nominate.

I will vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is. Florida has closed primaries and I'm not registered with a political party and I think our country is long-overdue a President who isn't white, protestant, old, and male....we have a diverse country and our White House should reflect that. I'm glad to see LGBTQI, non-white, non-Protestant, non-male, non-retirement age candidates.

No Democrat is going to get the Evangelical vote. I like love everything I have heard Pete say, especially his responses to Pence on religion. I'm not religious at all, but would love to see the rise of a religious left movement in this country to challenge the religious right. Thanks for your perspective, tmarschall.

I've just spent some time on youtube learning how to pronounce his name, and reading some humorous articles by writers who also struggled to pronounce his name. I liked him when I heard that he speaks 7 languages, and plays piano well enough to have been the featured pianist for the South Bend symphony. Also he's smart. I've seen the criticism that he's a bit young, but if he were the candidate he could counter that by picking an older person to be his vice president.

LOL Its nice to see that he is nice all the way around.

I actually think its possible he will end up as someone's VP. He was making jokes today that he'd be Trumps age in like 2070 or something. He obviously was joking, but it made me laugh. I had to go to his husbands Twitter page to learn to say him name. He has it sounded out in his profile. Made me laugh.

The 7 languages made me google him - fyi for someone interested: Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, Maltese, Arabic, Dari, and French. That's a pretty crazy eclectic mix. I don't know anything about him, but he seems interesting.

I don't know anything about him, but he seems interesting. I learned today he went to Harvard, Pembroke College, and was a Rhodes Scholar, and a commissioned Naval Intelligence Officer. He seems to have so much packed into his young life.

In case anyone is interested, he has a book that has been restocked HERE. I have a couple of books on my nightstand, but as soon as I am caught up (somewhat) I am going to order it.

I’m in favor of learning more about some of the younger candidates.
We have way too many old white men running this country now. Pete being gay is going to be a huge hurdle to get over, especially in the south. It doesn’t bother me at all, but having seen the Evangelical Christians raise their righteous fury, with Pence as their leader, I’m afraid this is not the year for Pete.
The old white man thing is part of I’m against both Biden and Sanders running.

So, far, I like what I'm hearing from him. I do think his age could work against him, but he is intelligent and rational with military experience. Not a bad combo at all

He read a book by a Norwegian author. He like it and looked for more. The others were all written in Norwegian. He taught himself Norwegian to be able to read the books. Not too long ago he was interviewed by a Norwegian reporter in Norwegian and he spoke Norwegian too. They said he did well. His dad was from Malta, where the name Butigieg is very common.

Even Mike Pence likes him and he and his wife have been playing butt hurt all week because they thought they were friends and they can't possibly understand why he's speaking out against Pence's anti-LGBTQ bigotry.
That being said, I think he hasn't been prime time long enough for the oppo to come out. Right now, he's my pick but after the John Edwards fiasco, I've learned never to get to wedded to a primary candidate. And I expect that at some point very soon (yesterday,) Kirsten Gillibrand's evil opposition research minions will turn their sights onto him.
