I’m in the process of choosing window coverings for my new house, and have decided on shutters. What material are yours made of, and why did you choose that material? Thanks for your help!

We picked wood. It was a hard decision. The wood ones are custom made and the faux wood were standard / stocked.
We moved into a house with custom sized windows. To get the standard / stocked faux wood for our windows was to get them made ‘custom’ and then the price was extremely high, and they’re not cheap to begin with.
To get the wood ones the guy just makes them by hand no matter what the size so the price didn’t change because of our window size. This made the hand made wood ones a better price.
I wanted faux wood. They looked and felt great and I thought they would stand up better. The guy who made my shutters assured me that his would stand up because his hardware was not wood.
Mine are 7 years old and look great. My mom’s are 20 years old (made by same guy). Hers have had parts of the hardware break and he’s had to replace. She had one board warp.

Thanks, they sound beautiful! I had wood blinds many years ago, and they warped in less than 5 years, so I’m reluctant! You are lucky to find someone who can make them by hand cheaper

Every house my husband & I have ever bought has been new construction, & we've chosen to outfit windows & doors with Hunter Douglas faux wood (due to humid climate) custom plantation shutters. We've had zero issues or repair calls. We briefly considered local shops, but were concerned about their longevity & limited warranties.
