I am trying to plan a girls trip. We are looking into cruises or just heading to Florida for a beach trip.
If we choose Florida we would want the gulf side. I just prefer that. We would either rent a house or a condo. My husband, the kids and I did the Clearwater area last year and we enjoyed that.
We have taken a few cruises to the Caribbean so I have been spoiled by some nice beaches. What are some beaches that compare to the Caribbean?

Alys, Seacrest or Rosemary Beach. All between Destin and Panama City Beach.

Anna Maria Island. Just south of Clearwater/St. Pete. My SIL has a house on the island and is there right now. We love the quiet, slow time there.

I really like Seacrest Beach. Lots of restaurants & cute shops. You can walk to Rosemary but staying in Seacrest is a little easier on the wallet than Rosemary.
It's a quick drive to Seaside and you can easily spend a day (or 2!) there enjoying the shopping and restaurants.

If you plan on going in the water, I'd make sure it's safe first (travel sites won't know. You could check on Erin Brockovitch's social media pages. I'd go much further south of Clearwater or very north on the gulf. I live here and won't step a toe I any water but the pool.

My SIL and BIL are in the water all.the.time and they have contracted nothing. No body parts have fallen off. You should expound on this if you want to drop that little nugget there.

Yes, it's the very much tainted gulf. I belong to a few clean water groups and am up to date with reality, so, no thanks!! We have never been as sick as we were when we moved here 8 years ago,and we're literally dying to move to a safer State, as soon as we're able. Between the gulf, the tap water, the allergens in the environment here and the horrible Healthcare, our lives have been at stake. I won't go on about it, but taking any trip should involve some research.

I love the Sanibel/Captiva Island area, it’s right by Ft. Myers. It’s so beautiful there.

Last year the Gulf was plagued by red tide and, in my area (Cape Coral), blue-green algae. Millions of pounds of fish/wildlife were killed. It was horrible. All testing so far this year in SW Florida shows no red tide. Dolphins are back, fish are returning, the bird life is abundant again. Life is back to normal. Sanibel is my go-to, it helps that it's only 15 miles away. I grew up in Indian Rocks Beach, just south of Clearwater - great beach there too.

Before we bought our lake cabin we used to spend a week in Sanibel or Captiva every year. When we stayed in Captiva we would rent a house for the week. In Sanibel we would rent a beach front condo. Sanibel has more restaurants and shops and you can bike all over the island. Captiva has better sunsets and a nicer stretch of beach. I personally prefer Captiva, but it's like comparing beer and wine - they're both good.

Just returned from a week at Seacrest - we stayed at High Pointe and loved it. Perfect location.
