I hope he has a miserable trip and that the protesters go out of their way to make him regret choosing to go on the trip. I think you can bank on that.

Why shouldn't you be able to stop him? You simply tell him. "Sorry Donnie... you're not welcome. Send the Secretary of State.' The British public should be making it abundantly clear to your government that you don't want him in your country. I would certainly speak up if he were invited into Canada again. He was invited by the Queen. Hmmm. That certainly makes it more difficult. With enough protest/outcry I would think the PM would take the Queen aside & advise that the invitation should be revoked.

I needed to read and check a bit more of this and......... Most reports lead back to the White House statement put out earlier that DT is planning on a state visit to UK. I'm taking solace from that. Do the WH realize that there is a big difference between a STATE visit and a visit to join in the 75th anniversary of D Day landing? I don't think they do. It wouldn't be them that would invite themselves on a STATE visit it would be the other way round. It would also be protocol that it would be Buckingham Palace that would make the first announcement not the WH. Quoting the Guardian here "It is unusual for a state visit to be announced at such short notice, and details of the visit have yet to be finalised with fewer than six weeks to go " This gives a bit more comfort as we can't really stop him ( nor should we ) to come over to join Britain and France in the 75th anniversary. I just wish they would send someone else to represent the US. I'm hoping that this is the case and that it will not be a STATE visit. Why shouldn't you be able to stop him? You simply tell him. "Sorry Donnie... you're not welcome. Send the Secretary of State.' The British public should be making it abundantly clear to your government that you don't want him in your country. I would certainly speak up if he were invited into Canada again. I don't think it's mine or anyone else's place to stop a country sending over a representative to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D Day or to choose who they send over. It's an allied commemoration and as the US was a participant in those D Day landing they have every right to be there. I don't have to like the person they send over but they do have a right to be there. It has nothing to do with the State visit which is what I object to.

I would love to see that idiot try to address the British Parliament. Aren't they the folks that heckle their speakers all the time? I would LOVE to hear him get all flustered trying to speak when a bunch of politicians are giving him the business.

Good god, can you imagine Trump addressing Parliament? "Um ah um Trump best ever yeah Trump most respected build the wall building the wall highest ratings fine people on both sides ugh HILLARY OBAMA POCAHONTAS Trump fake news angry Democrats NO COLLUSION MUELLER SAID oh lying Mueller best ever oh yeah build the wall." On behalf of my country, I apologize in advance, on the off chance that fuckery of a speech ever occurs. I'm just trying to imagine what introduction could be given to trump along the lines of Mr Bercow's in that clip welcoming Mr Obama, that wouldn't frankly sound ridiculous. Having just watched the video of Barack Obama addressig Parliament, and having marvelled at his oratorical skills (for some reason the link has not shown up here), I have changed my mind. Let Trump address Parliament. The contrast will be very amusing. He will, of course, assume that people are laughing with him and not at him.

I see that Corbyn has turned down the invitation to the state banquet stating that Trump uses racist and misogynistic rhetoric and that the relationship doesn't need the pomp and ceremony of a state visit. Bercow has also declined the invitation I believe which leaves me hope that Trump won't be invited to speak to Parliament. Protests are being planned as we speak - should be a lively visit! BBC
