My cat was trapped under our bed for a couple of days. O pee no poop. She was trapped in the neighbor’s garage, no pee no poop. We just hauled a feral cat that had been in a carrier all night another 8 hours , no pee , no poop. I have only had a very young kitten foul a carrier. My cat who was really very fastidious got locked in my office for half a day and did poop on a blanket on the floor. I know they have an instinct to only toilet in one location but I think the call of nature got stronger than that instinct at some point. Do you think that it could be related to the size of the place they get trapped in? |

I would have been satisfied with some hot soapy water. As the saying goes, if you ever thought about all the places in the house that your cat's bare butthole has touched, you would have to move. Between the 3 previous cats and the 5 current cats, I am pretty sure they have gotten every spot.

Next time - pay attention to what the dog is trying to tell you!! I'm another one who would have just added warm water and some sort of detergent to the tub, swished it all around with a gloved hand and then rinsed. While it is a bit gross, you aren't going to catch anything from it. Then if you can put it out in the sun to dry off. Very odd, cats usually don’t poop or pee in a space where they are trapped. Not odd. cats use urine and faeces to mark their territory and feel safe, so the more stressed they are the more likely they are to poop in that area to make them feel safer and to keep threats away. My grossest thing? The bathroom poop-nado  At some point in the middle of the night one of my cats used the litter box and had a "clinger" that fell off onto the bathroom floor. She kindly covered it with the bath mat. When I got up the next morning and went to the toilet...I thought the bathmat looked a bit funny so I straightened it but it was all bunched up...then I turned it over... Not only had the cat covered it but when I'd got up to pee in the middle of the night, I'd stood on the bathmat! So poop was squished into it and into the grouting of the tiles. So first thing in the morning I was on my knees in the bathroom scrubbing cat poop off the tiles, then scraping it off the bathmat, that I first rinsed, then soaked, then washed...all while the offending cat watched. However as gross as it was, as a nurse, I'll take one little cat poop over huge human poop any day. Plus my cats get fed mainly raw food, so while no poop is ever nice smelling at least my cat's isn't super offensive. |

pjaye, that must have been awful for you! I’d have to go buy a set of toothbrushes at the 99 cent store to scrub that grout clean. I can picture the cat just looking at you in that superior way they have. And that totally sounds like something that could happen in my house. I don’t have the best night vision anymore and as I went into my bedroom, coming from the well-lit stairway, I noticed what I thought was a rolled up clump of cat hair. I leaned down to pick it up and about an inch from contact, I figured I should turn the lights on first. I’m so glad that I did - it was a juicy hairball, not a clump of cat hair blown into a long dense clump from the window fan. It could have easily been a launched bit’o poop too. It was not far from one of the litter boxes in my bathroom. It is actually very unusual for my cats to hack up a hairball onto the floor. Their preferred place to deposit them is onto my bed.  That is why I cover my bed with a thick piece of clear plastic when I am not going to be in my room. I do keep their little beds on top, but not my sleeping area. And if they upchuck in their bed, I can just remove the pillowcase that I always slip over their beds. Washing a pillowcase is much easier than washing their beds. I really like being able to just put on a clean pillowcase every week instead of spending time trying to get all the cat hair off of their furry bed. When I’m in my room, I can still move like a bolt of lightening when I hear that first telltale gak to either grab with the cat and run them to the sink or to grab a towel to catch the offending thing before it lands. I’ve had cats all my life, so I guess I should count myself lucky that this is the first poop incident (if you don’t count their cage in transport) that I’ve had. I hope it is my last too.

I probably would have just washed the coins with hot water and some antibacterial soap, dried them off well and called it good. I worked at a bank for many years and I can tell you without question that ALL money is FILTHY. I have seen with my own eyes people pull wads of cash out of all kinds of places on their person and hand it to me, all damp, sweaty and gross, to deposit in their bank account.   While that money never went into my drawer, it did get sent back to the Federal Reserve where it would end up going to some other bank. So yeah, all money is eww and I’d take soap and water washed cat poop coins over sweaty armpit, boob, balls or feet paper bills any day of the week. Seriously. People are nasty. Any time I think I’ve had to deal with something disgusting, I call my niece who is an RN and she will tell me, “Oh, that’s nothing. That’s not even the grossest thing I’ve dealt with TODAY.”  |

Lexica Instead of the plastic you have on your bed, you should look into getting a couple big pieces of PUL (polyurethane lined fabric) from JoAnn’s ETC to put over your bed. When my last dog was elderly and started having some issues, it saved my bed and my sanity so I wouldn’t have to change all of my bedding in the middle of the night if he puked or something. It’s the same stuff that is used for the waterproof exterior of modern cloth diapers that is soft fabric on one side and waterproof lining on the other. A two yard piece was plenty long and wide enough to completely cover my king sized bed and I put his blanket on top of it. If something did happen, I could pull off his blanket and replace it in the middle of the night so everybody could go right back to sleep, and the next morning I could throw the whole thing into the washer and dryer. Best idea ever.

Since those coins are leaving your home at some point to be handled bu others, I think cleaning them is the right thing to do.

My cats will definitely pee and poop when they are trapped in a closet. My one cat has peed/pooped in her cat carrier multiple times, from stress I think. My grossest thing: the dog ate cat poop and then started to gag. He was sitting on the bed and I ran over and caught the poop vomit with my bare hands. Not one bit of it ended up on the bed. One of my proudest accomplishments.  |

I’m sure they will be clean enough by what you've already done. As others have said, coin is filthy. Think of folk who pick money up that they find in the street then go and spend it. Who knows what could have pee’d or bled on it! Years ago I was told there are more bank notes in circulation with traces of cocaine on them than not. If we think too hard about it, we’d all use plastic and never ‘real money’ and it won’t be too long, in any event, before cash is done away with altogether in favour of cards.
We always have our dogs sleep in the bedroom and once when we had a new puppy he missed telling me he needed to go out and left a deposit on the bedroom floor. Luckily we had protected the carpet in case of accidents but that didn’t stop me stepping in it with my bare feet.
We had new cats and they woukd hide in the smallest places. We always checked the rooms before going out and shut the doors behind us. Blow me if we didn’t constantly miss them and in their endeavours to get out they scratched the carpets bare by each door. Every single carpeted room now has a bald patch. I could almost cry just typing it, never mind living with it!
