Update! I did get some more paper, the 1.99 stuff for .20-I do feel like that is okay as I would not be able to afford that quanity otherwise. I do plan to use this, give some away, etc..so nope, not hoarding! Yay! Definition: psychology : the compulsion to continually accumulate a variety of items that are often considered useless or worthless by others accompanied by an inability to discard the items without great distressThis JoAnn's sale is killing me! All that paper that is .99 per sheet, 1.99 per sheet...at TWENTY cents. Today is the last day. I have bought 45 dollars worth of paper, the majority of it cardstock. Which is good, because I was running a bit low on some colors. Down to only about 80 sheets of blue, lol. Before this sale, I had not heard of this Shimmelle (?) and now this super cute paper that I had never looked at is calling me to buy more of it! I found this thread, which kind of touches on hoarding...but doesn't exactly address what I am feeling. I want to buy more paper. I want to make sure I don't run out, or have a need for the 1.99 paper that I could have bought for .20, but now it is 10x that much. 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/81586/minimalism-scrapbookingI can afford to go and spend 10 or 20 bucks more on paper, but should I? When is enough enough? I mean, I do use it. I scrapbook as much as I can. Thoughts? Advice? Someone to shop with?

It's hoarding when you can't close the scraproom door. LOL, well that is def not a problem. I guess I just am trying to think in terms of "how much do I really need?" and what "need" means in terms of paper. Could I comfortably craft for a month without buying anything? Yes. 6 months? Would need adheasive. A year? hmmmmm not sure. Just thoughts I guess. Also my brain keeps going "20 cents a sheet!" ***Let it go...Let it go...***

Would you buy it if it wasn't on sale? If no then you probably don't need it. There will always be another sale.

If you love it and you can afford it buy it. I'd have a hard time not buying if I was there in vacation we'd never get a deal like that here in Canada.

Nope, would not buy if it was not on sale. I guess I am thinking in terms of stocking up for a rainy day. Often times paper that is 1.99 a sheet is out of my budget/price range and I would not be able to afford to use it on invitations, or I would have to be very very sparing with it. So having it be .20 is making me giddy, as I it makes the nice stuff affordable.

I understand - my scrapbooking budget is fairly small and .20/sheet is such a good price. We don't have a Joanns here - there's one in the city but I only go if we're already there, not a special trip (it's about an hour away).
I have a certain amount of space set aside for paper - more space than I honestly need but still limited. When that space is full, I don't shop, no matter how good the deal or how awesome the paper is. When that space is full, I need to scrap not shop.
I like choices but I need to not have SO many choices that I become paralysed with indecision. I need my scrap space to be neat and organised or I can't scrap. Too much stuff makes it so I can't scrap - either through indecision or because it makes my space overflow and become messy.
Right now? I shopped quite a bit* a couple of weeks ago and my paper storage is full. So I'm scrapping not buying.
*as we all define 'quite a bit' differently - I bought 3 pads of cardstock, 4 pads of paper and a dozen sheets of paper/cardstock over three shopping trips. I spent under $50 in all. For me, that's quite a lot and it'll probably be mid-late summer before I shop again - except for adhesive and albums.

I figure if it is the sale that is pushing it into your budget, and you otherwise wouldn't normally pay the higher price, go ahead and get it while you can. It sounds like you use it, and if you love it and can afford it now, I say enjoy yourself

Also, JoAnn has these kinds of sales all the time, so if you don't get something now, you'll have other chances.

I bought a lot fromJ's, but only what I really liked and thought I might actually use. And only one sheet each for most of it.
I have too much paper already. I'm trying to exercise a little restraint.

Well I’ve gone back a few times to see if they stocked the new papers and I’ve spent $2 each time. I’m up to $8

Also, JoAnn has these kinds of sales all the time, so if you don't get something now, you'll have other chances. I don’t know, I think it is a glitch that the 1.99 paper is 20 cents. It even says on the sign that only paper up to a certain amount is included in the sale and it should not include the 1.99 paper. I don’t imagine that paper will be that cheap again. I have been several times getting colors I know I will use, because the price is fantastic, paper doesn’t go bad, it will get used sooner or later, and I have space and the minimal disposable income 20 cent paper requires. I am not buying anything today I wouldn’t want in the future, I may not be willing to pay 99 cents a sheet in the future though or be willing to wait for a sale, hence me buying now. Op, I think you are fine!

I have enough paper, supplies, and tools to open a store. Is that enough? Too much? I am preparing to attend all 3 days at the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo the end of May. I must keep the "store" stocked, even if I have no customers.

I just came from J’s. Didn’t buy any scrap paper but got $455 worth of fabric for $150. Their quilting fabric and fat quarters were 80%off!

These paper sales are when I stock up on my Bazzill cardstock and if I need patterned paper. I also get my glitter paper then for my Christmas cards When I hit these sales I’ve had my receipt end up several feet tall because I bought so much paper. I don’t worry about hoarding it as I’m getting more selective in what I buy. Last year I used a lot of it just on my Christmas cards since I made over 200.

On a whim I stopped at J's (didn't even know about the sale) I picked up 20 sheets of paper and stupid me didn't even THINK about getting some cardstock. But I did get some really cute pattern paper. Wish I had more time to spend in there.

While I'd not shopped at Jo-Ann in about 3 years, I was unexpectedly nearby & stopped in yesterday. The paper racks were completely empty; there was no scrapbook paper - sheets or packs - anywhere in the store! The clerk claimed it was due to the sale & uncertain when they would be restocked. I was reminded the reason I'd not been in a Jo-Ann store in about 3 years...
ETA: Regarding hoarding, you have nothing to worry about. It's IMPOSSIBLE to have too much paper!

It's hoarding when you can't close the scraproom door. I'm going with that one and my living room /scrap space does not have a door and there's vaulted ceilings.
ETA: I wish I lived closer to big box stores. I'm too lazy to drive 40 minutes for 0.20 paper.

I stopped by last week and then went again today. $30 total and that was bunches of white cardstock, some of the new collections they had, and a pack of white 6x8 paper.

It's hoarding when you can't close the scraproom door. I like Don's definition, especially since my craft area is a loft. There is no door to close. I have more paper and supplies than I am likely to use in my lifetime, but that is mostly the fault of Tuesday Morning. I cannot resist their 25 sheet packs that allow me to use pretty paper with abandon. I can be as extravagant as I want. And I bought heavily at the sales when the LSS was closing. Hoarding is being unwilling to use it or give it away. By that definition, I am definitely not a hoarder. I moved from Virginia to Texas with my stash, and yes, I brought most of it. I had a pretty good idea that I would never live near any LSS again. The closest one is at least a forty minute drive, and the other two are even farther. The one that is the best is an hour and fifteen minute drive. I have made it there once. It was worth going to, since a friend was with me, which made it a great road trip, but I honestly have no need to buy anything more. I have been reorganizing my paper and card stock, and pulling some of the extra sheets to give to friends, because I am basically out of storage space for paper. I am also trying to be pickier even with the pretty papers that I find at TM. I might need to buy adhesive eventually, maybe in a few years......

Maybe I should just take a peek....

Hoarding is being unwilling to use it or give it away. By that definition, I am definitely not a hoarder. I may be a slight hoarder, however it's just a few papers that are too lovely to cut. They must be admired.

It's not hoarding if you use it. If you buy things you don't especially like just because it's on sale you're wasting your money/space. If you love it and it's something you'll use, and you can afford it (in terms of money and space) then no big deal. But there is such a thing as too much. When you hit that point depends on you and your habits. At some point having too much can be overwhelming (my tolerance for that is quite low). Or you realize you don't actually love the paper after you use the first 10 sheets.
There may not be these exact deals at Joann's in the future, but there are always sales, and new products coming out that you might want more.
I have no need or desire to stock up enough to scrapbook for a year because I know that there will be half a dozen new releases every year that I like as much as what's out now. But again, my tolerance for stocking up is low. I'm a much bigger fan of using things up - a never-ending struggle for me because even buying very little I have too much for my own preferences and habits.
