I've just resigned from my volunteer position with a local animal rescue group because I've gone back to work and I no longer have the time or energy ... I'm sad about that I worked in the "cat room" ... I pretty much scooped a bit of litter, filled food and water bowls and then cuddled cats for my entire shift ... it was awesome I would love for my mom to do that! She is retired and has a cat and is kind of obsessed with cats. I think something like this would be perfect for her. She talks a big game about getting out more but she doesn’t. She spends entirely too much time “reading” ie sleeping the day away. Maybe you could go with her a few times to kind of get her started. She might feel more comfortable that way.

I spend an hour a week at the local animal shelter. I pet the cats and walk the dogs. The socialization helps them stay human-friendly and adoptable.
I also volunteer occasionally at a local art museum; usually we are doing mailings or I'm there taking in new artwork. Neither requires much time.
