Hello all I got a question to all those who moved from one location to another but had to keep most of your craft room stored. How did you store your stuff. How did your inks and copic markers fair. I have limited plastic cases. I have very little to put my stuff in. I have a load of glues, tape runners and tear tape rolls. I don't have much room in a finished basement to keep in boxes. I was offered some attic space that's not heated or cooled. I'm in a quandary here. Any advice would be helpful.

What part of the country are you in? How hot will it be in the summer? I think I would worry mostly about adhesives and photos in the year. Not sure about markers or inks. Do you have bluebird or another climate controlled storage that you could put just those items in? Good luck with the move, I know how stressful it can be.

When we moved I had several storage bins that I put everything in and it was only for a limited time, like maybe three weeks. And we are in a mostly cool climate with little to humidity. So I don't have any tips for you.
But...I haven't seen you around here and I've been wondering about you. I hope your doing well health-wise. Good luck with your move.

If you are planning to use some of your stuff over the interim, separate that out first. Maybe put it in the drawers of a rolly cart, or get a couple of those carts from M's that hold iris containers, and then put the stuff you will be using in them. Something like THIS, but with latched cases I would plan to keep inks and glues in an area that is more climate controlled than the attic you describe. Maybe pick up a couple of craft containers from M's for those as well. latchmates Tools and papers I decided to keep but store I would put in plastic totes with snap on lids that would keep out damp and dust and any creepy crawlies that may inhabit the storage space.

It will be divided up in two houses where ever it can fit. What won't fit will have to go. I'm unemployed so I can't afford much in the way of buying anything new to store stuff. I'm like looking at Facebook market place to buy 50 boxes and packing tape for $35 dollars. Those are just to store non scrappy stuff. A least my brother has room in his basement for my ok knearly new washer and dryer. Can't get rid of those I'd never get my money back on those. I get to keep my scrappy furniture but I'm getting rid of other some other furniture that needed to go along time ago. I went through every closet and dressers and bagged up a tremendous amount of clothes that didn't fit. I was holding onto them hoping I would loose weight one day to wear. I'd rather same room for my scrappy stuff. I guess I can stuff scrappy stuff in the empty drawers. I'm going back to school and hoping to get back on my feet in 2 years. Thank goodness for family to fall back on.

When we moved from Virginia to Texas, we used the Pack Rat system. They delivered a huge shipping container to our driveway. I packed a few boxes, and they got put into the container, and we locked it up till we had more to put into it. All my scrapbook stuff got put into it. It was left out in the cold, snow, heat, rain, humidity, etc. The first was delivered in January. We got a heavy snow. No problem. Summer heat, no problem. Once each container was full, they picked it up and it went to a climate controlled storage, but it usually sat in the driveway for a couple of months while we packed. We were renovating our house at the same time. It made our renovations and move SO much easier. We filled 3 Pack Rat containers before we were done.
When I unpacked, not a thing was harmed in any way. We did pack everything carefully in proper moving boxes from Home Depot, and packed each container carefully. There was very little room for the contents to shift. My scrapbook supplies were packed so tight in each box that there was no chance to warp, even if the humidity were an issue. Absolutely nothing was damaged. My inks and glues were fine, too. After we closed on our new home, we called and told them which container to deliver first. We unloaded that one, then had them take it away. A few days later, we had them deliver another one. Each container has an identifying number, which made it easy to get the last one packed to be the first one delivered.
I had labeled every box well on the sides as well as the top. I took a photo of every box for inventory. I took a photo of the number on each container. I took photos periodically of the contents of the container at various stages of filling it. I knew exactly what was in each container.
If we ever have to move again, I will probably do exactly the same thing. My husband agreed it was the easiest move ever, even though it was a lot of work, since we packed our own stuff and loaded it into the containers. We were able to do it at our own pace, put some things into it while we renovated, but take them out for staging the home when we got to that point.
Our first move was done by professional movers. It was less work initially, but it was much harder to find things as we unpacked when we got to our new home.
I did pack one cropping bag with basics and some kits to work on to keep me sane during the renovating and moving process. Other than that, all my scrapping stuff was packed and unavailable to me for months.
It sounds like you have had an unexpected life change. I am so sorry. I hope all goes well for you in your schooling. I am glad you have family to help.

I haven't moved, but one of the number one suggestions I have heard that seems to make a lot of sense is to think of the environment you're going to be storing things in. If you're not going to be able to store them in a climate controlled environment, I would try and keep things like stamps, ink, adhesives and anything else that wouldn't fair well in extreme heat or cold with you.

I don't know the details of what you are going through, but I want to offer you ((((hugs))))
I have moved four times, including two overseas moves. Three of those times I had to leave my stash in non climate controlled storage.
Zip lock bags are your best friend.
Go to the dollar store and even get the huge ones meant for clothes/blanket storage. Put your in progress & finished albums in them and seal.
Photos: put the envelopes of pics in gallon size zippies.
Now, for supplies:
Separate messy from not messy. Keep like with like. Inks & reinkers go in zip bags. Markers go in another bag. Liquid adhesives in another.
Consider glitter and confetti a messy supply.
All bagged, messy supplies go in boxes together, without non-messy supplies.
For ease, if it is feasible, zip bags are good for holding other categories of supplies together too.
The plastic bags will protect against things leaking if they are broken, and against water getting into your stuff.
Keep your albums and photos in the "best" storage area you are offered. Supplies are easier to replace than albums and pictures.
I didn't have markers, but did have about twenty small inkpads, five or so regular inkpads, and two reinkers. Only one cheap inkpad dried out. The others were fine. Nothing leaked.

Big hugs. That all sounds like a lot. I besides Ziplock bags, I used Glad Press & Seal for things like like glue bottles, paint, ink, etc. last time I moved.
As for the clothes, you will want new pretty things when you loose the weight. I had hung on to my "skinny jeans" for years. About 2 years ago, I started doing IF (Intermittent Fasting) and lost weight (I do IF 3 times per week to maintain my weight loss) and fit back into them. It was awesome, but they were super dated & I eventually donated those too.
Good luck with your move. I hope the schooling leads you to an awesome fresh start and lots of $ to buy new supplies.

Check Craigslist for moving boxes. Many times you can get them free.

Check Craigslist for moving boxes. Many times you can get them free. U-Haul often has used boxes for free also. I posted on FB when my sons were moving out that I would be happy to pick up boxes if anyone was getting rid of them. My FedEx driver (friend's husband) saw the post and picked up 30 he found on his route that someone was trying to rid of. It was a great surprise. My kids thought they could move a load at a time in their cars. Hahahahahaha. They used all of the boxes in a 26 foot trailer.

I didn't put anything fluid or liquid into storage that wasn't temperature controlled...adhesives, markers, pens, inks, etc. I also kept back anything that had adhesive on it, stickers, chipboard, etc. I made a small pile in a temporary storage spot. Everything else went to a storage unit (not temp controlled).

I'm happy you have family support right now.
I'd protect my completed albums and photos by storing them in the best place. Adhesives and other supplies can be replaced if they are damaged.
Good luck!

Here’s an update. Two family’s moved into my church and I got a ton of boxes and packing paper. I just had to get packing tape. I’m moving all of my scrappy supplies in my parents house along with a big metal shelf to store a lot of boxes. my clothes, jewelry chest and other essentials will be coming with me as well. Everything else is going in storage minus a desk that I want to refinish. It took 5 days and 40 boxes to pack up my scrap room. I’m so glad I kept the original boxes that my cricut, Gemini, and bigshot pro came in. It fits perfectly. My back is very sore and I have a plethora of bruises on my legs I’m sure it’s related to packing up. Other than quilts and photos anything else gets lost or stolen it would not be so bad. I’d miss some of my furniture but I’d get over it. I’ve had most of it for 25 years and I’m getting tired of it. My mattress and sofa love seat is going to the dump. I’m going to donate some other furniture to the goodwill. I need to find a home for my seasonal decorations other than my Christopher radko ornament collection. I have 3 large bins of beanie babies that are old. Maybe I can sell them on eBay. I’m going to give it a try If not they are going to the goodwill. I want to move to Florida in a few years and I don’t want to move a ton of stuff. I’ll probably keep most scrappy stuff sealed up in the boxes bc I don’t want to pack it again in a year.

I have moved numerous times in the 20+ years I have been scrapbooking and my stuff has always made it unscathed. Even these last few times when my teenagers where in charge of moving my stuff and where not to thrilled with the amount t of stuff I had and the weight of the boxes. Needles to say, they were not to careful with my stuff and still there where no casualties!
Good Luck! I hate the actual act of moving, but I am happy when we are all settled in!
