Oh Patter, I'm so sorry you didn't get better news. My Mom had surgery for her spinal stenosis last year and as soon as she woke up from the surgery she told us all of her pain was gone-that she felt so much better. Is that something they are looking at for you? I don't know about the degenerative disc disease but I'm sure between your daughter and all of the medical people you know you'll find a way to treat it (plus your amazing organization and searching techniques). And then to add arthritis on top of it. When it rains, it pours huh? I'm so sorry this has happened to you.
I see an Integrative Medicine doctor and he has me on a supplement called ArthroSoothe by Designs for Health that you can buy online for my arthritis. It really helps (I have mild arthritis) and you can get it here pureformulas.com
I wish you the best in healing and will be praying for you.

It's too bad your MRI diagnosis was not very positive, but I do think it's better to know exactly what you are dealing with so you can treat it properly and not do more harm than good. I hope you find some relief that makes you feel better.

birukitty, that is awesome that your mom felt relief so quickly. Not sure what they are looking at for me yet. My first appointment with the pain management doc is on Wednesday. I am also hoping to have a referral to the neurologist my daughter recommended. I want his opinion also. And I will look into the supplement you mentioned. If it looks like it might be for me, I will mention it to my doctor. Thanks! And thanks Spongemom Scrappants. It is better to know what I am dealing with for sure. Now to find help!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this - yes, much more complex than just sciatica. How comforting that your DD knows the folks and the hospital, though.
I hope you get some relief.

BIG HUGS!!! We've talked a lot before. I'm a stenosis and scoliosis with belly &heart issues. Pain relief is hard but the last ER trip they suggested Fentynol. Only because my BP is super high and they said it didn't have the effects like morphine and some others they give me. I was scared because of the 'stigma' with it and all.. but they assured me they had saftey procedures for people in my condiition. So we started on slow doses. I had not been able to sit up all weekend a couple weeks ago. It was ok and it didn't give the migrane but I did throw it all up after I got home. Although with my belly stuff that's normal. Anyway I know there are different options for this so different things for folks. PT helps at least with the stretching without hurting yourself. And stuff you can do at home. Which I do now on hard mornings. I hope you can get some relief. I do phengran instead of Zofran, But I know a lot that prefer Zofran. I hate the drug part of it but sometimes ya gotta do what to do. LIfe's too short to be miserable.

I’m sorry the people that you know who have received steroid injections didn’t get any relief from them. I didn’t realize how lucky I was, I just assumed they worked for the majority. I had tremendous relief during the weeks leading up to my surgery. My spinal surgery was termed a failed one though because I am left in pain that cannot be fixed by additional surgery. They did all the right things to fix my stenosis and replace my damaged discs with donated bone that is attached to my own bone with a titanium plate and screws, but there is nothing that can be done for a damaged nerve apparently.
My neurologist used an example of comparing a nerve to a piece of cooked spaghetti. Once that piece of spaghetti is smashed, you cannot make it round and whole again. Therefore, no matter that the causation of the nerve damage has been repaired, the nerves will forever send pain signals because they are forever smashed. The image helped me to understand why I woke from the procedure with increasing pain as the anesthetic wore off. Thankfully, I am on a combination of pain relievers that have masked the bulk of the intense pain and I can function fully. I was warned prior to the procedure that some people come out of spinal surgery having lost the ability to walk, so I consider my surgery to be a huge success in that manner.
I have heard of many many successful spinal surgeries, so if that is the recommended route for you, I pray yours will be another highly successful one.

azredhead and Lexica, I am sorry you both suffer so also. My daughters have always lived with pain, and while I have compassion for them and ache for them, I truly never understood until now. It sucks to live in pain constantly! They are my hero's! I also appreciate hearing your experiences with meds, etc. Everything I can go armed with on Wednesday is helpful! Hugs to you both!

Have they also done bloodwork to rule out anything else?

Have they also done bloodwork to rule out anything else? Yes. My doc took a TON! A couple of things showed up that they are watching but unrelated to this. I have been healthy my entire life and am completely falling apart at 54.

I am sorry about the findings, but glad that you are seeing a specialist.

I have been healthy my entire life and am completely falling apart at 54. good. My brother had back/nerve pain and they couldn't figure it out. He went to a chiropractor who sent him for xray which showed one of his vertebrae had a fracture. They did lots of test with it and found his was a symptom of cancer, so I wanted to make sure they ruled that out.

freecharlie, so sorry about your brother! How is he doing? he goes to see the specialist today I think. Up to this point it was getting the diagnosis. Now they look at treatment. He's been having pain for months. His GPS gave him muscle relaxers and prednisone but neither really helped but the GP. want going to do more. So DB went to the chiropractor who immediately knew something was wrong and sent him for xrays. Who knows how long he would have gone undiagnosed without that visit. I didn't bring it up to scare you, I just want to make sure you get the diagnosis you need to treat and heal. I was going to go on a rant about insurance and doctors, but I'll do that on a different thread.

freecharlie, praying his appointment goes well! And there are some AMAZING doctors out there but there are some really bad ones too. We have seen both, and it's why we usually get 2-3 opinions now.
